OMG, I am a leftover at 46 yrs. I am always a leftover, but it is not so important. I met classmates from High school. A classmate's husband was violent, he killed her daughter and her with a knife. It was a real carnage a lot of blood everywhere in the house. This day, I understood, I was not ready to have a girlfriend in my life, too much emotional. I am sensitive, you know. My pleasure is different. I fixed my motorcycle after many weeks of work. Cheap old motorcycle, nobody wants to fix. I got out of the garage when the sky was red with this noisy and smoking machine. It was possible to see the beam light in the smoke. Myself, I was in my cloud near to paradise. I rode in the middle of the night outside the city, my 50/50 exhaust pipes received some complaints from cows on the country road. I park my motorcycle watching the sunrise thinking about the half of people in my life death before my 30 years old. Don't ask me to be with someone, I have enough with myself, enough crying for someone else's.

I think many women are under the wrong impression that men don't want to settle in general, while in reality we may just not want to settle with the woman we are currently dating. When it comes to dating, men are not picky at all. However, we are very pick with who we settle with. Off curse, no one enjoys hurting someone's feeling so one may say "I am not ready to settle" instead of "I don't want to settle with you".

That is because most men don’t even meet the criteria for dating. Most women want a man making 6 figures and who is at least 6ft tall. That is already less than 10% of all men. 90% of men have no dates while 10% of men are spoiled for choice. The top 10% of men can casually date till they are well in their 50’s cause there is no way women are “settling” for average men.

The only reason why men are popular is their 30’s is because it takes that long to be financially successful. I didn’t become a doctor till I was 29, and finding a date is so easy. As long as you stay in shape women will keep coming well into your 40’s. A woman rather date a successful guy in his 40’s than a struggling guy in his 20’s. The so called left over men weren’t getting dates even when they were young. They have no career and no woman is willing to date them

Am I the only guy that wants to marry/settled down with only 1 woman in my entire life and enjoy endless romance with her? And by settle down I don't mean to end my life in boringness. I actually want to start all the adventures and exciting experience together with my wife after we marry. After marriage the fun should start. Not the opposite (Yes, I am a bit too idealistic and romantic but I'm not the type that is dating many women.)

Single 42 years old man here, slim shape. After dating a few years in Japan, most of them were 10 years younger than me. My longest relationship with a Japanese was with a woman 6 years younger than me and we lived together for 5 years (dated for 6 years and for X reason never married). But I don’t mind if the other person is younger or older than me not either how she looks physically. What’s more important for me is her personality above all and if she can tolerate me going to concerts frequently (I happen to have a band also so I go out a lot). Now prioritizing on meetings someone who wants to settle up and get married. In my experience when it was about casual encounters, it happened for them to be very young, but when it was about dating, the age gap was much much shorter. Needles to say, I never used a dating app, it just happened when meeting people on concerts and such.

The situation is very different in the US. 80% of the women will exclusively only go for the top 10% to 20% on dating apps. For the remaining 80% to 90% of American men, dating apps is an empty, dry desert and they would struggle to even get a few good matches. There was a video or article about a tall guy that swiped right on 16,000 girls on a dating app. In the end, he only got 3 real life dates and those dates didn’t go well. Also, men tend to reach their financial and mental peak around late 30s or early 40s. Maybe the situation is different in Japan because of the economy.

I’m certain that as a man over 40, the rules on dating a younger woman in Japan are the same as most anywhere else. It’s important to be established in your career, financially stable, physically fit, healthy, and have charisma. The girl wants someone who makes her feel secure and loved. Also, as a foreigner, you have the additional responsibility of learning the language.

And some things to add to what she said, as far as the women go. 1- Most Japanese women age 25 and older struggle to get a man. This may be because once they hit age 25, they begin to age rapidly. You would never know this if you have never lived in Japan, because American TV only shows beautiful Japanese women, and we hear that Japanese women never age. And even if you come here as a tourist, you only see beautiful Japanese women. But you will be shocked at the fast aging process if you live here. This doesn't mean that they look bad, there are many attractive middle-aged Japanese women. Just that they look older than their actual age. In the face though, not physically. And they are magicians with makeup, so even if they do look older, they hide it well. 2- Japanese men prefer younger women. Japanese women age 25 and older usually have better luck with foreign men. 3- I don't know why this is, but from my experience interacting with women here, the younger women generally act more maturely than the older ones. The older ones play the mixed messages game. If the younger ones like you, they will show it. 4- If a man is still single in his 40s, he usually loses interest in dating.

You’re saying the only reason women would avoid older men is because of looks? I’m in my 30’s and look 25. In my actual 20’s, I had no muscles, no money, and knew less about interacting with women. I feel like when I’m 40 if I look 34, if I go on dating apps then, the number - the fact that it says “40” - would probably be more of a red flag than how I actually look. I think this is a bit similar in most countries - at least in USA too. I was never a player type, but I became more picky as I became older because I know more specifically what I want or don't want from the girl so I am still not married in my late 30's. Although I would like to settle down, if I can't find a girl who is a good enough match, I'll just have to accept single life I guess.

I'm in a similar situation in my 30s. It's hard. Dating sucks. If you meet women in their 20s, they're often times too wild and want to party all the time. If you meet someone in their 30s, they're often times already getting set in their ways and won't be compromising in terms of relationship goals. They have a solid ideal man and don't want anything less. That said, I'm sure this goes both ways. I'm not a woman in the dating pool, so I can't say much about guys. This is just my experience.

I’m agreement with this as well. To be quite frank, I don’t think I see myself as being able to handle a married life. It’s not because I’m against marriage, but because I don’t want to risk getting tied to someone who I might not be comfortable with. Apart from that, I’ve witnessed many people that I’ve known, end in breakups with someone they were with for a time, so that’s sort of left a bad impression on me about marriage. Why would I waste my life, freedom and happiness with someone who never cared about me in the first place? Now I do believe there are plenty of women in the world who genuinely want to get married with a special someone, but I too have come to declare that if I never find anybody by the time I start reach my early 40s, I will decide that I’m better of living as a single man. And to be honest, I wouldn’t have any regrets about it. I will have less problems and more time for myself. The most I could probably do is be a sperm donor.

The numbers you gave don't reflect the fact that Japan has an aging population. If women really wanted me 27-32 there would be more kids. Also, looks for men hardly ever matter that much, it's women that need to be young and beautiful. Men get more valuable as they age until they are too old. As a 40-year-old white guy in Japan who came here when I was 39, the dating scene isn't great. I mean I do go on dates fairly often, but most of them are unattractive, or just average, or are around my age or older. Younger women, like 5, 10 years younger is uncommon to meet for me. Even casual types of relationships aren't easy for me to get, but I'm not that attractive either 🤷‍♂ So being a white guy with blue eyes and is slim is not enough I guess.

I can completely understand that age matters to younger Japanese women. What I'd be curious about, is if there is any realistic hope for a 40-year-old American with limited Japanese language skills to talk with a 40-year-old Japanese woman. I imagine the number of English-speaking single Japanese women in their 40s is probably small.

If you are blond, clear eyes, tall and have money, you will not have any problems. I’ve met many people with those characteristics dating very beautiful women here in Japan, and in fact it’s usually the women the ones who want to settle down.

Even so man either she has to be more on the western end of things/ western minded and be able to speak pretty high-level English… And I say that because Japan‘s test scores suck when it comes to the international entrance exams to study abroad for university TOFL/ TESOL... and that’s the younger generation I can’t imagine if she’s older than say someone in their 20s. So to be honest the same rules apply, you gotta find someone who has studied abroad and is at least Western educated or has Western sensibilities. Even if you learn to speak Japanese getting across emotions and understanding feelings that is far more complicated than just being able to order something off of a menu or buy something off of Amazon. Also you don’t want her to treat you like a Japanese guy but in a different skin, it has to be give-and-take with a balance your feelings matter too.

@@dieinfire920 All that stuff doesn't matter 90% of my wife friends are single and 50% are interested in foreigners and of those its fairly split on what kind of foreigner they like it all varies from non Japanese asians, blacks(more than you think), white, Brazilians, Hispanics (more than you think) etc it doesn't matter all that height, skin color, hair color eyes is b.s lmao too many single women and relatives strained financially for them to be that picky here in Japan, your scope is either jaded from what you see on tv or in general limited. The hardest part for a foreign man is finding a High Earner Japanese woman who speaks English and is interested in a foreigner typically the financially well have done It in a corporate environment and don't go against the grain, but simply finding a Japanese woman is not hard all the way up until I got married I had other woman my age and even up to 15-20 yrs older than me who wanted to marry some for a visa for my home country others for the financial stability and support, some for genetics all types of weird wacky shit imo. Japan is like everywhere else in the world some people like "this" some people like "that" just gotta ask they'll tell you without telling you

Question for anyone here if that’s true then why are Japan’s marriage rates declining, a recent study that I looked at said that for 2021 only 514,000 marriages were registered in Japan in 2021, that’s the lowest since the end of World War II in 1945.... I get it traditionally marriage matters in Japan but if it’s declining so rapidly and as is the population there must be a reason people aren’t wanting to get into relationships and they’re not having children...

Actually, I would not have advised my Japanese wife to marry me because of my age. She was turning 40. I was 61. Fifteen years later, looking back we have had a great relationship. However, I feel bad for her. She will be with an elderly man soon. I’m healthy now but she is only 56. I will die in the next 5-10 years most likely and she will be alone and still relatively young.

I was born old, I think. I got married when I was 24, still in love after 20 years, and I have never even seen a dating app, I'm still happy and I encourage people to get someone good, for whom they are genuinely atracted, as soon as they can provide for themselves. Love is a consequence of people, not the other way around. Just my point of view, though.

Thank you, it helps being realistic pushing 40, I'll add an opine that while I'm not religious anymore or too materialistic, I think theirs a preternatural purpose to aging with grace if it's in your stars and mythos.

if a very young woman looking to date an older man, chances are highly likely she is dealing with father issues and may experiment on you. I dated with several young women and all end up in the same crazy basket. Be aware, do not get captivated or you may end up heart broken or even be in trouble. young adults acts and decide carelessly.

Taking an objective stance on this I would argue that Japan is one of the worst places to date simply because mental health doesn’t particularly exist, either the concept of it or treating it. People aren’t encouraged to talk about their feelings and if they have any particular disorders people hide it… It makes sense why you get all of those crazy dating stories when mental health services are practically nonexistent.

i had been avoiding marriage and children, i worked in tv in the west end of london and was having a great time. then i met a japanese girl who is 13 years younger than me and i got fed up of hearing her complain about visas and the home office, and she was an excelent person - and still is - so we got married and started a family. what went wrong was that my work means i could work for a six months, and then have six months spending all my money until i needed to work again, and, when we had moved three times, the last time she had to take on the full amount of the mortgage, i was in my late 50's - that's when the cultures clashed, i lost her respect as head of the house and eventually (20 years of marriage later) we split. we have a son, so we are still in touch and get along pretty well, but the age difference, although good for me to begin with, is probably worth avoiding if you can. my ex was a brilliant wife and mother and her family were the tops, i love japan and the japanese people. it hasn't been a conscious effort, but all my girlfriends have been a year to ten years younger than me - i am young at heart as they say :)

Guys who are quite wealthy can buy always younger because they have high sexual market value while females lose their sexual market value each year they age. I have not had a hard time connecting with 35 - to 55 years old....now I don't look my age either...at my high school reunion 35 years....(yes technicoly I'm old..haha) but at the high school reunion ...there were guys with canes....and my best friend had both knees operated on the year before and a couple of my friends were using like walkers......so for me ....well I was suprised no one wanted to dance....we were playing the early 80's songs and 70's songs ...and everyone was kind of shaking in their chair to dance....but no one would get up and dance...haha....I still love to dance....I think my age might be just a thought...cause I still play softball on our church team (oldest one on the team including the coach..haha) ....but I like to keep active....maybe at sometime I will slow down...but for now I love my life...keep going....but I'm happy to connect with anyone....who knows if it's going to be a romanic involvment....or just friends.....I'm open for either ..!!

I have no chance afterall. I'll be turning 38 by the end of this year. Then again, I'll always be rejected. No matter what. So... best for me to give up and stay single forever. A lot of people say I'm not suitable for love or marriage, as I always get compared to other guys who are so much more perfect. I'm not perfect and I'm not good-looking. That is why I will always be a reject. I've already been called a creep or being considered creepy. That's one of the many reasons why I don't want to show my face ever again. Not online anyway. Besides staying low profile away from the crazies who might come after me out of hatred.

Don't be so sure. If you're willing to date women who aren't good looking you might have a chance. It also helps to work on yourself. Social skills, physical and mental health, money, status. Those matter too. Anyways I hope you find someone.

The Thing is as a man you can Always improve your attractiveness. Looks wealth social status... It depends on you. A women has a value from the beginning which is constantly decreasing. Women can Work against it but Not so much. AS a 40 year old man you can still have 20 year old women IT only depends in you! As a 40 year old Woman though..... Well theres Not a Lot to so for you:)

Just my opinion & with the lenses of western thinking. But I’m assuming Japanese women use thought process when considering men. Wouldn’t a western man in their 40s or 50s not be considered leftovers if they are divorced or widowed? Also I’ll admit to my ignorance but I thought I read Japanese women are less into casual “hookups” & more interested in settling down (that doesn’t necessarily mean child raising). Also I thought finding Japanese girls is a difficult endeavor because they are too busy. Again please excuse any ignorance because my understanding is based on a few “top ten things about Japanese culture” videos & articles I’ve read/watched. My only experience with an Asian female was back in my teens I worked with a Chinese student & I got the idea her family wouldn’t be cool with her dating an American. She was really cool though.
