@DATING HARLEY QUINN Also that he is (that) malignant. I grew up with a mother with Narcissistic Personality Disorder and while she may be malignant to a degree, she would also refer to herself as a humanist and get off of herself being that great and she would most definitely be the most left-wing president the US ever had. But a president like Trump who's that malignant and racist and misogynistic ... that's the worst case scenario.

@claire bigelow because narcissists love and thrive on power. the presidency is a seat of high power. therefore, it'd be ideal for a power hungry bloke such as a narcissist. Trump doesn't want to leave his post-so much so, he's become delusional about his true standing as POTUS. for him, it's the best place he'd ever imagine having gotten entrance to. okay, if you were serious a thumb up for having asked.

I do wish there was a way for many of David's interviews to be better known and available to much, much wider audiences, both in the US and abroad. He seems to be one of the most level-headed, well informed hosts of shows that discuss political and sociological phenomena on YT, and his interviews are very understandable and easy to listen to, extremely informative, while he is neither attacking nor being disrespectfull to anyone. His fairness when discussing most difficult and divisive topics are truly refreshing, and his calm manner and complete lack of aggressive politicizing could build a bridge and reach the other side, in this era of bitter division between two political sides. He deserves far more credits and a far larger audience.

And the interesting thing about all these personality disorders including narcissistic personality disorder is that these people are not aware that they have the problem. It is called ego syntonic. This is why it is a challenge to treat these disorders since how can they be helped if they cannot even realize they have the problem in the first place.

@Mikko Tuuri Wow what to unpack here first. Joe is less than Ideal but he didn't barge into changing rooms at his own pageants. I would love to give Trump credit for his stance on wars but he undermined it at every turn. What ever he went in wanting, he let the war hawks run rampant, even dropping the largest non-nuclear bombs in the arsenal. He is damn lucky he didn't start a war with Iran and it was only by their self restraint it didn't happen. The only war he semi retreated from was the one front where everyone agreed they should really keep the Kurds from being slaughtered (causing a bunch of isis fighters to escape btw). On that note, giving him credit for actions any president would have taken on isis is pretty worthless.

I love that he was honest about this being a left and right issue. It's not about politics. It's about personality, and most politicians are likely somewhere on that spectrum. Trump's overt style of narcissism is transparent and easy to see. He writes it on Twitter, he says the words explicitly, he's outrageous and self-incriminating. The right tends to be more characteristic of the overt abusive characters who actually look like wolves. Despite their obviousness, they often get away with it because people are afraid of them or they see them as strength and that makes them feel safe. The left tends to be more characteristic of the covert style of abuse. It's very hidden. It's disguised as charity, altruism and false humility but it's working quietly behind the scenes, doing exactly the opposite of the image it portrays in public. Its outward form is elegant and sophisticated. Covert abusive tactics are very stealth and always come with a wrapper of plausible deniability so it's very difficult to identify it as abuse and for that reason, they can get away with that much more. Most people see them as upright pillars of society and the family. They are the wolves in sheep's clothing and in my opinion, that is far more dangerous because of the public perception that they manage.

5:00 - I'm sick of this tired line about how a clinical psychologist can't diagnose a personality disorder in someone without meeting them first when it's someone who lives their life so completely in the public eye as celebrities and public figures on reality television, politics, and social media. I could point to a few other people that exemplify this, but old Bankrupt Donny is probably the most easily diagnosed individual on the planet with all of his damage and disorders being rubbed in our faces like a puppy's mess on an expensive rug. We all know the emperor has no clothes - mental health professionals need to stop pretending like they can't say professionally what's obvious to the rest of us.

There are some professionals who believe *Duty to Warn* trumps the Goldwater Rule. It's a way to let people know someone is dangerous. The link below is a group of professionals who are warning about Trump in no uncertain terms. [Disclaimer: I personally benefited from a duty to warn notice from the therapist of a friend who had a psychotic break not long after I romantically rejected him (it didn't cause it but it made it worse) - a phone call that might have saved my life, so I'm biased towards that rule.] www.adutytowarn.org

@@gregoryhutto1963 While I understand the professional concern I don't think the same standards need apply when someone is going out of their way to live their life on the public stage. The people who are obsessed with being in the public eye are doing enough harm to themselves and the people around them that any social damage that might come from making a diagnosis is probably moot. I don't think that Donald Trump (or Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, etc.) would give a damn what some clinical psychologist has to say - especially on some lefty Internet show. But I also understand that it isn't about them but your own professional integrity that matters.

@Anthony Slaga ok but I'm talking about just specifically questioning their health. not so much voting. everyone can speculate about Trump's mental health, which I have no problem with at all. but in 2016 when Hillary fell out for no reason, and had some other blips that seemed strange and could be potentially attributed to mental health, no one was allowed to speculate about it besides accepting what their team had put out. I don't really think there's anything wrong with her, but she is also a habitual liar (not one bit excusing Trump's lies at all) and the way she laughed about the killing of Qaddafi is extremely strange to me.

As an Australian who didn't quite finish his degree in political science, I'm very intetested in the way that your political system works. The Electoral College is in my opinion, archaic. Here in Australia, it's MANDATORY that you vote. We have a two party system. We also have a PREFERENTIAL system of which I am not a fan. If I choose to not vote for one of the two major parties, Labor or Liberal, then I don't want my vote for a minor party going to either of them.. One vote, one value.

1:55 His point about the seeming narcissism of expecting people will want to hear what you have to say really hits home with me. I don’t post on social media because I’m chronically ill, and victories feel like bragging and the bad stuff (which would be most of what was posted, since I’m not doing well) would be a pity party. Everyone who is important to me will find out without having to go on Facebook anyway, so why post? I’d not pick and choose and curate it so I seem well, but then compared to all the curated profiles, I look even more whiny. I’m a writer, and growing up I felt my ability wasn’t anything to write home about. It took a lot of time to see I did have an unusual amount of talent. I’m still working through how narcissistic it feels to say, “My writing is great! Pay money and spend the time to read these several hundred pages of a story I came up with! Don’t read something else or do anything else with that time, this is worth it!” It feels kind of gross in a way. But... my characters deserve to live outside of my head. And no one else will advocate as strongly for them as I can. Still. It just takes getting used to. It feels weird and kind of wrong. At least in politics, I’d be trying to make a change in the world and help people, cause actionable change. Reading can be such a blessing for people, an outlet or an escape, a way to savor victories and mourn defeats, so it’s not like it’s useless. But still, my readers could be reading the classics instead of my work. That’s... humbling and intimidating in equal measure. I guess all I can do is my best to be worthy of that belief in my work to repay them. It’s still going to take a while through. 😂

The sad thing is that the majority of people simply don't care enough, and aren't thoughtful enough, to critically analyse such thing as the warning signs of authoritarianism, and the psychological characteristics of leaders that are dangerous and harmful to the people they lead. This sort of stuff should be taught in schools - a functioning democracy that is stable, and doesn't risk deteriorating into autocracy, depends on the electorate being, at least mostly well informed. When you dumb down the electorate, undermine their education, and discourage critical thought, you end up with a people that will elect someone who just might try end this business of electing leaders. This is why imposing democracy on a people generally fails - if democracy is given from the outside to a people who are used to authoritarian leaders and their style, they are likely to elect an authoritarian, and the democracy will be short lived, or deteriorate into a pseudo-democracy, like has happened in Russia. For democracy to work, the people must first adopt and understand democratic principles, the "enlightenment era" ideals, learn a bit about the mistakes of history, and how authoritarians have rarely been good for their people. Only after a majority of the population has adopted these views and learned this information, can democracy survive and be stable. The United States of America is playing with fire, letting great masses be uneducated and distracted by shiny objects. The only reason USA hasn't completely lost it's democracy yet is the checks and balances that your constitution gives you - the checks and balances who's enforcement Trump is now busily testing, with a large part of the electorate completely ignorant of the danger this represents. So thank you David Pakman, for your show and for doing the important task of trying to educate people - you and the other progressive channels on KZfaq are vital.

@Bonnie Bagley No, the majority did not, but enough did. The problem is not only the people who voted for the malignant narcissist, but also with the people who restrict their input of news to cable news sources, and thus get only the highly biased pro-neo-liberal corporatist view of things. It is ultimately these people that resulted in president Trump - because they elected, in the primary, the corporate favourite, who happened to be also one of the most intensely disliked democrats out there, among those that don't get all their news from corporate cable channels. This, and the pure arrogance of the Hillary campaign in ignoring the alarms of danger, and the offer of help from the Bernie campaign in the general, meant that the (very considerable) minority that was susceptible to the charms of the autocrat got their way. The misinformation goes deep, and is not restricted to one party. The corporatists are a cross party interest - they include the wholly bought Republicans, and the mostly bought Democrats, and all the Cable News channels, to varying degrees. The greatest danger in 2020, is that the corporate media and the corporate democrats have not learned anything at all from the Clinton loss. They are pushing Biden now, Clinton 2.0, and using the very same tactics that lost to Trump the last time. This is why these progressive channels on KZfaq are absolutely vital. Without them, there's no chance of defeating the corporate behemoth, no chance of saving the country from it's own tragic ignorance.

I believe ALL leaders have sociopathic tendencies to some extent, and perhaps some narcissistic tendencies as well - people who don't have them do not want to be leaders and don't seek position of power: if they end up at the top they usually reluctantly accept that position under pressure from others and be willing to let go as soon as they can.

It would be a good idea if BERNIE SANDERS could get some serious physcological advise and guidance dealing with a NARC b4 debating djt. Talking to a NARC is like falling down a rabbit hole. NARCS are masters at confusing and twisting a conversation.

I'm hard pressed to say Donald Trump has a personality disorder. Disorder suggests something went wrong. Trump's personality is entirely by design, and not his own. He was trained by another malignant narcissist, his father. Taught to never compromise, dominate every situation, always be the man with the plan, make everything about himself. If you get a pit-bull, train it from a puppy to be aggressive and violent toward other dogs, it's a problem for sure, but it's not like its behavior won't be entirely predictable. We'd have to totally deprogram Trump, and he doesn't have the years it would take to do that, neither do we.

Go and watch the movie Split, Trump has all the personalities from that movie and more. I'm from the UK and our politics are fucked up right now, but America has slumped so far with that gibbon in office it's scary. I'm just one UK guy thinking of our friends over the pond.

Why, David Pakman, are you airing a person who says "I think Donald Trump pretended to be someone else in an interview once" when we have multiple recording evidence of Trump doing this many times over? This needs correction.

I suspect that something insidious has been nurtured within the consciousness of many Americans within the last 25 Years or so. Maybe I am wrong about his but in around 1994 I cannot imagine that so many relatively normal Americans would have so insanely embraced Trump. These people for whatever reason have become even more susceptible to Trump like rhetoric & personality manipulation, well enhanced by his show business approach to inciting his followers. Their brains are sadly refusing or unable to view the man behind the show & THEY need to engage whatever GREY MATTER is for them is still possible.

authoritarrians appear on both sides. On the right is mainly around who people are such as nationalism or individual identity. On the left is based around group identity for example Hitler went after the Jews because of their racial identity. While Mao Zedong went after imperialists and bourgeois elitist because the group they belong to.

He looks and sounds like a decent doctor, idk if he actually is one though (im not googling him). If he is a real doctor, what'd you bring him on for, exactly? His expert opinion? He even says he never met the fkin guy, so why does his opinion mean anything? Im a shitposter in the comment section and i could attribute the exact same characteristics to Trump as he did. You needed a doctor to tell you about his personality, and that he's a narcissist? Really? You could ask a drunk, sleeping homeless man in the dead of winter about Trump and hell tell you that. Why WHY did you bring a doctor on your show to tell us this. Stop wasting time feeding into the TDS, you can do sooo much better David. I loved you on JRE
