Mentoring makes a difference. One in three young people grow up without a mentor. This means we have an opportunity to reach and impact millions of children across the country (and around the world). Learn how local and national organizations are garnering the attention of young people. Rasheda Williams is an award-winning mentor, communications consultant & author of “Be EmPOWERed: How to Live Above & Beyond Life’s Drama." She is the founder & chief empowering officer for Empowered Flower Girl & a staunch youth advocate. She holds a B.A. in journalism from Wayne State University & has extensive training in youth development, community relations & interpersonal communication. Her passion & advocacy for community and social change have earned her numerous accolades, including Kumon North America’s “Impact Award” & Super Woman Productions & Publishing’s “Make It Happen Award.” She also was named among Everyday Power’s “29 Inspirational Female Entrepreneurs Who Are Positively Impacting The World.” A survivor of bullying, Rasheda was featured in Cosmopolitan magazine in the article “Being bullied changed my life.” Her journey from excluded to empowered motivated her to launch Empowered Flower Girl in 2010. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This Tedx Talk is powerful and gives a perspective on a world that most tend to forget about or will immediately judge the children who turn to gangs. Mentorship is critical in making this systemic change.

Powerful. I love the perspective you took with comparing how negative influences are able to reach our children. Great work! (I love being a mentor, too!)

Awesome talk. I am inspired by your composure and commitment to young people. I have considered to put some time and energy to the growth of our youth and therefore i will start connecting with families and listen to young peoples hopes and fears.

I'm looking for a Mentor for my startup. I'm not in tech, rather media/leisure-time entertainment.
