I think the SLS was a really captivating design, a homage to the old design of the 300 SL but they weren't afraid to make it different.

I personally love the simplicity and elegance of Mercedes AMG GT. As James May said it “a car for grown ups”

I'd like to give an honorable mention to the C219 model, the original CLS. That beautiful arc that starts at the top of the front wheel house and then gently curves along the side of the car towards the rear is just sublime. Very clean lines, no extra frills beyond those gentle arcs, just beautiful ❤

Not much love for Herr Sacco. His 300 and 190 still look good on the road, and they're nearly 40 years old. The treatment of the surfaces around doors, especially the b pillars is so modern even now. So good.

Pillarless is very nice. It used to be common on american cars of the 50's and 60's.

My favourite design of all time is the W108. Such a beauty! That and the W124. Hope to be able to at least drive these some day

My favourite 3 Merc Design : 300 SL Gullwing, 560 SEC AMG 6.0 and 190E Evo 2

My favorite Mercedes Coupe is the last iteration of the CL-class (the one with the squared lights). I just loved how elegant they are, very clean and IMHO timeless.

My favorite MB designs are the R129 SL, which I think is one the most beautifully proportioned cars in existence and also the C215 CL class, it's just so elegant, delicate and sophisticated, imo.

I would love if you made a video on Mazda design. I feel this brand gets slept on, especially considering how gorgeous the RX7 was.

One of my favourite recent Mercedes-Benz designs is the CLS Shooting Brake. At the time there just wasn't anything that came close to its design and presence on the market, within its segment and it made me purchase one in a heartbeat! Many happy miles later and I still look back in awe after I park it!

Looking at the past 30 years, 190 (regular, as I think evo is a bit over the top) and w210 E class really represent mercedes benz in it's essence. Suprised they didn't get a mention. Cheers

The Mercedes 300SE of the early 1970's is a real classic. The convertibles are especially pretty. The interiors are just as nice as the outside. These have gotten enormously valuable lately on the classic market.

I never noticed the front view of the C111 before and it's beautiful. I only used to love it because of the rotary before. Thank you, Frank.

As a child, I fell in love with the early 2000s design language of Mercedes-Benz when I first saw the F200 Imagination. It still holds a special place in my heart.

I've owned my 2014 E Class since new [low mileage: 35,500 kms]. I still get a kick out of looking at it, and from every angle. It has timeless elegance that I am afraid is not duplicated in the new for 2024 CLE Coupe.

Frank, you have your finger on the pulse in terms of your humour and lingo. You are probably the coolest dad ever.

I always loved cars but I never knew how to express the overall feeling and emotion their designs gave me. Listening to you sharing your experience and personnal likings in design really took me on another level in car contemplation. Paying attention to every lines, how they meet, fade away, the importance of proportions, ... As a mechanical engineer's point of view, I always had utility and optimization in mind (especially when it comes to racing cars), but esthetic, elegance and beauty is what truly gives to cars their attractiveness. You made me love even more what was the love of my life. For that, thanks Frank.

What about the CL Coupe? It had a wonderful decreasing radius c-pillar and the overall design of the car was quite stunning

my favourite Mercedes Benz design is the underrated 2-door-coupe version of the second-generation A-Class (C169). this is the perfect interpretation of a one box car and absolutely "form follows function" in second place comes the 80th-generation (W/C126, W124 and W201) these cars still look modern in 2021

Love the note on the vents, if there is one thing that will always annoy me it is design without purpose, if you need a vent, design one in, if you don't than don't have one. The best design comes from having to work with limitations it makes a great designer think outside of the known boxes.

Fantastic series. Thank you so much. I just love aesthetics and design. My personal all-time favourites from M B are the R107 and subsequently, the W116. That distinctive very different design language, and the cars themselves were mind-boggling groundbraking in 1971 and '72, far ahead of their time on many aspects. So much so that they still hold up very well today. Owning a R107 in immaculate condition remains a personal dream. It is a real pleasure learning about your content :) Again, Thank you.

my favorite is SLS AMG, when it came out I was about to finish school and start practicing for my drivers licence so I was just starting to learn about cars and I saw it one night on TV being reviewed on top gear and decided immediately that's my dream car

I certainly agree with you about the C111. I finally got to see one about 4 years ago and it did not disappoint. What a gorgeous car. I recall when a version set the world record for fastest diesel powered car back in the 70s.

Great video Frank I’m a recent subscriber and love the channel. I love Benz coupes and convertibles so my top 3 picks would be the 300 SL roadster (W198), the 280 SE 3.5 litre coupe (W111) and the 560 SEC (C126). The latter particularly is a timeless classic which I’d love to own some day since the former 2 are just a touch out of my price range! Cheers

R107 and w123 are, to me, the distillation of Mercedes design. Timeless and elegant.

Thank you for these videos Frank. 25 years ago I started becoming obsessed with sketching cars and car design as a kid. I really wanted to be a designer and I really had eye for it. Unfortunately, I didn’t grow up in circumstances that allowed that to become a reality. I don’t dwell on what might have been (thankfully I found ways to express design within my businesses). What I admire most is that you’ve taken the time to inspire and educate the next generation of designers and maybe even awaken the passion in those who weren’t even aware it. 🙏🏽

I’d love to see a video of you taking about the evolution of car design. For example I know headlights are a easy identifier of a cars age because of certain limitations, laws, or trends. I’m a young designer who’s about to go to art school and my design process is a very form follows function type of approach. Understanding what something is, what it does, and how it’s evolved to what it is now would help tremendously. Your videos are Phenomenal and have taught me loads. Thanks so much for the time and knowledge you give to me and your viewers!

Loved your picks, really great insights and I learned a lot. I absolutely loved that you singled out the S Class coupe, as that is certainly my favorite modern Mercedes also. I'm not too fond of the way they are going currently, the smaller lights, with narrow angles etc. They just don't fit well with what I expect a Mercedes to be but I'm sure in time they will find their feet again...

Thank you for this wonderful video, Frank. I have been hoping for your opinion on Mercedes Benz design for a long time. When I was a child, the s-class w220 came on the market. I was deeply impressed by the design. Years later, I bought a W220 S600. I still love this clear, straightforward design today, which is a refreshing contrast to the often gimmicky design of today. I look forward to your next video.

Amazing content for the car enthusiast. I'm not much of a Mercedes guy, but I'll tell you my three favourite models. I agree with you in the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut, and the C111. I remember I was about 8 years old when I saw a C111 model in 1:18, and I was absolutely astonished by the thing, I couldn't believe it was a Mercedes, what a shock. In a world of W114, W123, and W124, that thing looked like a spaceship to me. The Uhlenhaut on the other hand is just pure beauty, but knowing the Gullwing it doesn't caught you by surprise actually. It's just a much more sensual version of the car. The third one for me is the SL R129. Very well proportioned, and well sorted with the lower trim or mouldings on the lower part of the body, and on top of that, the two tone paint job did it for me. Fantastic looking car. Thank you again for your videos Frank, really appreciated.

when I was young the SLR just came out and I loved it. A few years later my father showed me the classic 300SL which to this day ist my favorite looking car. I like the modern SLS AMG and the AMG GT especially the the rear end of the AMG GT ist one of my favorites. And lastly I have to say that I fell in love with the AVTR design, I just love the organic but futuristic feel of it so much.

I'm here to say it's not just you Mr. Frank. I'm 24 and I love cars like Datsun Z, 60's Mustang and old Corvette's C1 to 3.
