Mercedes-Benz workers in Alabama begin union vote

More than 5,000 Mercedes-Benz workers in Alabama will begin voting this week on joining the United Auto Workers union. CBS News correspondent Tom Hanson has the latest.

If UAW gets in, Mercedes will leave Alabama within 5-6 years. Workers are cutting off nose to spite dace.

Mercedes Benz has worked with unions in Germany for decades. Look it up. Also nearly every trade is covered by a union in Germany. Research The German Trade Union Confederation (Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund) or DGB for short. They're a mega union in Germany. I think Mercedes workers in Germany work under the IG Metall Union.

Economically we have it all in Alabama. It has become a haven for business that employ lots of people. Space rockets and exploration, defense, automotive... Where I live in Huntsville there aren't nearly enough workers to go around! But things were very different when I was growing up in Gadsden in the 60s and 70s. The unions ruined it plain and simple. Yes, they were needed at one time, but most (I'm sure not all!) large employers have learned their lesson about mistreating workers. And the unions are NEVER happy!!!!! What is enough today will be scandalous tomorrow. They incite greed and anger, lower morale and generally make things worse for everyone until companies find somewhere else to go. I think the only reason they're back is because we Americans are so forgetful. We have to learn the same lessons over and over. Today's sweetness will be tomorrow's agony.

Ya need news stations covering Unionization. Public record and streaming names, places, actions.... All government jobs are unionized. Depends on the owner of the business, find an owner who understands: for example, all the "big" companies that end up going global are unionized. Don't bother with grocery stores, they use strikes to fire all their highest paid employees. I have seen it cycle several times in my area
