Thanks for this info. Our Daily runner started with this problem one year after water pump was replaced. This can be the problem as I checked and saw some green coloring in the same area where yours had water. I might just go ahead and replace the damn thing next week.

Took me 6 hours to complete on a C220 Amg 170, and i have an engine management light now on which ill have to inveastigate, the wiring is a pain in the neck and gets in the way making an easy job really tricky, access to several bolts is tricky without a decent socket kit. The video diagnosis is very good but its not a quick job.

Bought the genuine part for £50, took 2 hours, all good now. Thanks

After watching this last night and doing my sprinter today, You can do mine next time.... talk about frustrating. Especially the underside EGR cooler bolts. Even If the loom would move a little more, it would have been so much easier 🤣🤣 Thanks for the insight, made it so much easier

Great vid man replaced heaps of them in mb the part you fitted is an uprated one (re designed) also the water pumps have an update aswell the newer ones are aluminium instead of plastic never see one give trouble

Happened to me with infiniti Q50 (same engine) but the upper house inlet was damaged. Another common issue with this engine is the plastic water pump, which can be replaced with aluminum pump 👍

The bit in having trouble with is the Egr cooler , it’s almost impossible to get the last bolt as the fuel filter housing is in the way

Good job man, just for info I had an issue with weeping from this area and water pump, but a split hose from this (fuel filter water block) housing to oil cooler which was leaking massively.

had this happen on a glk 250. i think the gasket/o-ring from manufacturer is bad. i took to dealer, they replaced water pump... $1200 out the window, after i told them this was issue. fixed myself took about 4 hours, wish you made this video 3 years ago

Hello Guys, I'm just wondering when you removed the fuel filter housing, will you possibly get some space as well to replace the glow plugs?

Where does that air filter housing sit on? I put the bolt back on that holds a cable in place and used a longer bolt and hit something. Me being a noob used an impact and kept trying to drive it in, until i figured out i used a long bolt instead of a short bolt. Not sure what I was driving into, and i still have a leak. not sure if i broke something, or if i just didn't put a hose back in right... Just wondering worst case scenario, what did i break (if anything). Where does that housing sit? any help is appreciated!

i have use same this model. my question is. i found the oil leak come out from the hose beside the gearbox. had see with my tiny camera and the hose is attach to cylinder head. i dont know why it is there and oil come out from that hose. what is you opinion that i need to replace sir?

Subscribed already! I have changed water pump with housing(aluminium housing), i had problem on it with coolat leak, so now it it new and it is ok. But i still can see coolant dissapearing, less a lot than before changing water pump, but it somewhere leaks. Could this be a problem, or something else? All pipes of water are "medium soft" temperature is always 90°... and i am dissapointed because all of this. Btw everything is great with car e250cdi, injectors, transmission,etc. No oil in coolant, and no coolant in oil. I hope so its not big deal? Best regards

I am having issues with my C220 Auto seems to have a coolant leak of some sort, Twice the bottom coolant hose has come off while stationary at just below 90 degrees engine temperature, giving off steam and immediatly warning me of low coolant, the engine doesnt overheat, heater controls work fine hot and cold. Another issue that might be related is i get alot of gushing liquid which seems to be water coming from the exhaust. (like a tap on full when reving/Accelerating) Can you (MercMan) or anyone reading this help me, thanks

This looks like the trouble mine had. It's easy to see if you pressurise the system until it blows bubbles out of the failed seal, you can see and hear it then.

I am watching your video because I had the same problem with mine, and the mechanic at the workshop whilst having a go at it, decided it would be a good idea to remove the Common Rail to gain acess. After reassemble it , wouldn´t start, and he cranked it till the battery was flat. He also used Easy Start. Injector were sent to a specialist and the result is all four are damaged. I am faced now with the prospect of having to spend 800 quid in four new injectors. And worse still, maybe a fuel pump. I Was told that the problem is because " this is a high mileage car" . I am very disapointed and frustrated. What would you do in my sittuation? Thank you for your video, I wish i had seen it sooner and had a go myself.

Thanks Mercman great video mate. I just replaced mine after suffering coolant lose and advise from Mercedes. When I stripped everything down I had the three bolt variant present already (with the horizontal bolt from frame) and everything looked quite dry. The bottom bigger bolt in the fuel filter housing is difficult to tighten due to the base plastic getting in the way of the socket and the bolt on the bottom left of the EGR cooler is a nightmare. With some trickery and blue tac to hold the bolts in the socket I have managed to get everything back together. Can I ask if you torqued these bolt on the fuel filter housing or EGR cooler or just tightened by feel till they felt tight enough? Also as mine is dry and water pump area is dry have you seen any other common areas that leak? I have noticed coolant sat on the belly plastics under the car close to the back of the engine when they were removed so I am assuming somewhere round the back.

Today I tackled this as it would appear I had coolant leaking from underneath the car and warning on dashboard and when you looked around by the fuel filter housing and the egr cooler there was a build up clearly showing however I've fitted the new redesigned model can only fit two bolts as isn't slots for all three. However I took it for a test drive after refilling with coolant and now it appears the dashboard warning has came back on yet again? Any ideas or suggestions to what's happening?

However, when I look at the car from the front, I notice that on the right hand side, on top of the radiator, the hose leads to a metal housing that appears to be wet and rusty. Is this the most likely culprit? I'm not sure what the housing section is called. Please let me know. Second, now that I'm checking for leaks, when I turn off the engine, it makes a beeping sound. Which socket do you use to get that awkward Access bolt from lower section from inside the filter housing. Appears my e10 is a little to fat and awkward access

Does this also allow coolant to leak down the oil cooler side of the block and to the floor, I recently did that oil cooler job and when I topped up the cars coolant (it came with virtually non in) I had a leak down that side. I initially thought I'd made an error fitting the new oil cooler so stripped it all back off and everything looked fine. When refitted again, leak was still there and after a check with an endoscope the leak seems to be coming from above the oil cooler.

Hey!!,quick question for you...would really appreciate help if you could? There is a wiring harness that runs on top of that engine and a plug that comes off on the middle right side,the plug seems to sit around the front of the fuel filter housing and goes down to the left side front of the egr cooler,do you know what it goes to? Its just a little short wire and plug on the right of the wiring harness and only one in the middle on top of the fuel rail. Ive just done the waterpump and fuel filter housing on this and lost to where this plug goes unless it doesnt on some of these engines?
