►Mercedes' M156 AMG V8 is the legendary engine that powered at least one iteration of every Mercedes chassis between 2006 and 2014. It's a relatively tough engine, but it still needs regular service like anything else. Although it's a high-performance engine, a water pump replacement can be performed at home with some simple hand tools and a bit of patience.
Replacing a water pump is an essential part of any automotive maintenance. Modern engines need proper cooling, and a failing water pump is a recipe for disaster. Running the engine without proper cooling can heat it beyond its tolerances, warping the cylinder heads and damaging the rotating assembly. Replace your water pump at the required service interval, and you shouldn't ever have to worry.

It got lost in shipping twice and as a result took a month after I initially ordered it to get here, but finally the new OEM water pump I bought for my E55 has arrived! I really appreciate your guys' repeated efforts to get me my parts as well as these awesome tutorials. I've been restoring this car using only factory parts from FCP and have saved a ton of money... I've probably spent at least 2K so far but it would've been at least twice that much if I'd purchased through the local dealer!

On my E55 there is a small heater circulation pump behind the passenger side headlight, and also a pump for the supercharger cooling system behind the front bumper basically underneath the passenger headlight. I think all W211's have the heater recirculation pump but only the supercharged cars will have the other one of course.
