Hey guys, in this video we will show you how to remove or replace the tail light bulbs on Mercedes W211. We demonstrated on a 2003 Mercedes e320 rear right tail light bulb assembly removal. Unfortunately the right way to replace a burnt bulb is by replacing the whole assembly which includes the rear turn signal light bulb, brake light bulb, tail light bulb, and reverse light bulb. Great video just changed the taillight in my 04 Mercedes e350 couldn’t have been easier. Great explanation. Hardest part is the damn clips.

There is some redundancy built into this that is uniquely German. The bulb holder unit has a single brake light bulb at the top, then 2 reverse light bulbs, then 2 indicator bulbs, and 2 rear light bulbs at the bottom. The rear light bulbs are also the rear fog lights. Therefore if one bulb goes you still have road legal function of all lights. However, if the brake light bulb blows, then your rear lights also become the brake lights (the remaining good top brake light is deactivated). Because of this, I wonder if a defective bulb or 2 would fail the MOT (UK)

the notion of soldering??? FORGET IT!!!! The metal they are using does not connect to solder, even silver solder...I used different fluxes but NO BANANA. After you think the solder has taken you just take a screw driver and you can pop the entire solder bead off and you see it has not connected at all. The bulbs are not SOLDERED IN they are WELDED IN! One possible way to fix this mess is to connect, spot weld or tap a lug to the conductor traces going to the individual light bulbs...putting pigtail sockets to each individual light bulb. (those are not sockets on the carrier, if you want to put LEDs there you will need to install sockets there first. What a mess. Mercedes claims that the light bulbs they used in that carrier are LONG TERM BULBS.....Seriously, I finally gave up on the idea I would spend hours and hours converting the carrier to sockets and leds I just rather buy 2 carriers and have them lying there in case some bulb goes bellyup and be done with it. The w211 main lighting, head lights tail lights etc are such tight fits, when a light, front ot rear, goes bad better get the first aid kit first..TIGHT fit!

Great Videos I have a 2003 W211 (E320) and the cluster panel displays an error message Brake light left and right auxiliary bulb on I have replaced the bulb tray on both sides of the car and no resolution, could it be a relay or a fuse that is causing this message?

I have the same problem on my 2005 Mercedes Benz e320. I attempted to fix the problem before by ordering a new tail light the tailight came with LED my car has no connection for the brake light with the LED so I still have the fault brake light left & brake light right. Now that I want to sell this car I have to fix this problem.

Same with mine 2003, e240 .. in my case the same msg in cluster but actually all bulbs r ok. Right and left brake lights r working as usual and back up light is not ON as it appears in cluster . I opted not to do anything as long as it's not affecting anything. Msgs r still there. 1. Coz opening too hard and can't change bulbs as shown in video here. 2. Secondly physically problem not there so not sure how cluster msgs. So bro how u fixed yours?

Please give me some advice and help. I am 70+ years old and my old 1990 350dsl Mercedes will NOT pass inspection here in Louisiana. Here is the problem. 1990 Mercedes 350dsl When I turn on the parking lights the tail lights work, BUT when I turn on the head lights the Drivers side tail light goes out.

thank you guys for this video. i am disappointed in Mercedes-Benz though for construction such a bullshit tail light assembly. my break lights are out, both of them at the same time after a jumpstart....i will likely have to spend a few hundred dollars to just replace a break light, WTF. I will reconsider my next vehicle and look at serviceability for sure. would you know which fuse circuit is the one for the tail lights?

It is WELDED (you can not melt welds) not soldered 😅 you need to invest in a spot welding machine to change break lights.
