Nice easy little job. Takes longer to blead the cooling system than doing the job. Got mine from Euro car parts for about £45! It was just the front part with the pully and the security torque screws at 1:46.

Yes but sometimes the plastic housing behind the actual pump leaks too so i always change the whole thing which comes as one from mercedes

Hy mate, I have a e250 cdi and the pressure in the coolant system is high. Keeps braking hoses and stuff. Change the pressure cap and 6 hoses by now. What can it be? Can it be water pump? I have not notice any bubbles in the coolant tank so I don’t think is the head gasket. Any advice?

Hi MercMan, could you do a video, on the occasion of how you will do an oil cooler job- "How to take of a throttle body in 642.920 engine?" Mine is leaking oil and a I have to take it apart and change the gaskets.... Thanks for all your videos. Great knowledge.

Hi Nico, i have an oil cooler video on a 642 engine, and on that video the part i take off at 4:10 mins is the part i take off to remove the throttle body as the throttle body is bolted onto that part.. hope this helped i will post more videos on 642 Engines soon..

Good vid. How much would you charge gor this Labour only. The part from mercedes is £150 ish but not sure what the goin raye is to replace.

Hello Sir, I did the same job on my MB GLK 204.984 in Nov, 2019. I didn't replace the whole water pump kit, since I wanted to spend less. OEM comes as a kit as a housing with pipes, like on your video. Aftermarket you can buy either full kit with pipes or just the let-me-call it 'cartridge', the plastic/metal plate with pressed in sealer,bearing and pin with rotor and the pulley. It also has vacuum breather connector to activate the curtain on water pump (let's have fingers crossed that it requires same vacuum force to activate the curtain, as OEM one!) As I said, I changed only the center part since the problem was with a leaking sealer. It was cheaper, faster, easier and safer (for me) since I didn't want to undo the rubber tubes which became less flexible after 8 years. You only need torx30 to undo 7-8 screws. I'm not saying my way is better! It is just another way. I'm sure, if to go into details it is better to change the whole kit even if It is more time consuming, hard and expensive. Anyway, will see how long it will work. I hope, I won't need to replace the whole pump next November:) Many thanks for videos about OM651 maintainance!

Hi Boris, when these 651 engines first came out i use to do it your way buy changing the pump only and not the housing, but a few occasions the housing started to leak afterward so iv decided to change the whole ting ever since then, its not that much longer to be honest pretty straightforward

@mercmantips thanks for the answer. I will keep in mind that the housing may start leaking soon. for now 15000km passed and there are no leaks.

Hy did you bleed the coolant sistem after the pump changed? Please

For now 56000 km have passed and the housing still don't leak.

On that model it was 94k miles

That is a piece for the front cover to clip into, thats needs to be moved onto the new pump for the cover to clip in securely..

@@mercmantips hey thank you so much for the swift reply ! Would that be for the top cover ? On my car it clips on 3 different places on the top but not on the front where the water pump is , it's a w212 e220 . Also would I be able to get that part from Mercedes ? Many thanks !

No not the top engine cover, there is a cover on the front of the engine which covers the fan belt, not all models have them though, and yes only buy from mercedes you can get the pump only from other manufacturers but the plastic housing can leak too so change the whole thing and do the job once!
