got a mercury 50hp fourstroke with 4 carbs had issues with it since i acquired the thing. so far replaced, head gasket, water pipe grommet, spark plugs, oil filter, Water \ oil seperator, fuel filter, oil and thermostat. someone cleaned the carbs and i had to do that again with an ultrasonic cleaner but i have no clues about balancing carbs but with your video i think i could get the majority done so thank you for this.

thanks for the comment its a tricky procedure my big mistake was messing with the setting on the bottom carb it seems that you need to adjust the other carbs to that one if the bottom carb is out of adjustment it gets difficult to get the rest right.

Guessing... It bogs down when you go full throttle?

@@travelling_hobbit What did you do to fix it? I've been troubleshooting mine for a month now, pouring too much money into it... Trouble is, it's a $6000 engine USED here... Outboards are mindblowingly expensive.

@@puttitat2851 i ultrasonic cleaned every part of the 4 carbs rebuilt them and assembled back as they were and got a friend who tunes carbs to balance mine. wasnt to far out i wound them all in and then wound out 1 1/2 turns as a starting place

I have the same engine that was giving me idle and low throttle problems (bogging down). I initially thought I had a bad spark plug. It turned out that one of the slow idle jets was partially blocked. Cleaned it and it ran good..... for a while. I found a video that recommended that you replace all the jets ( both slow and main ) with the next size up. The theory is that the jets are too fine, just to keep the emissions under the limit. When the fuel dries out of the jets, it leaves a layer of varnish which slowly builds up. I have installed the new bigger jets, however I haven’t had it in the water yet...... the jury is still out... let me know if you want the part numbers. I still have the packets. Cheers. Dale.

Hi dale sure if you could give the part numbers that would be great .maybe that would explain why this engine never idled great from new

Dale I have 1999 30hp mariner 4-stroke I’m having the same issue but I have NEVER change the jets took them out abs soaked them a million times on low idle it’s a bit rough but give it a little gas I can idle till I burn all my gas out the tank but I can’t get on the wave it Boggs down if you have those part numbers for the jets would be greatly appreciated thank you

@@leeleger8245 Sorry mate. I have moved house a couple of months ago and I can’t find the packs. I got the details from a KZfaq video. I’m sure he said they were the jets from a Yamaha 25hp Two Stroke. By the way, I think the pressure cans of carby cleaner are the way to go. They remove the varnish better than just soaking. Balance them carefully with a Pro-Tune balancer (or similar). Don’t waste your time with those home made bottle bullshit contraptions. Good luck. I’ll keep looking for the packs...... cheers mate.
