Question. Just as stated, some ventilators have the NIF capability, as well as Vital Capacity. The Drager vents, such as the Drager Evita XL, Evita 2 dura, Evita 4, or Evita V500 have this capability. The Servo I has the ability to perform a NIF by placing the patient in CPAP/PS, and pressing the Expiratory Hold, and then instructing the patient to suck in as muc as they can. The PB840 has the ability to perform the NIF, in Respiratory Mechanics menu. Now my question to you, is which do you think is a More accurate measurement? A measurement off a device such as this, where you have to take the patient OFF THE VENTILATOR, or a NIF measurement on the ventilator. Now my regional hospital has the PB840, and they for some weird reason are still using the NIFometers. I just want to know what you think!

Hi @ventilator98, thank you for the question, sorry for the late reply! The Disposable NIFometer is easy to use and what sets it apart from other negative inspiratory force meters is its small compact size, portability and disposable feature. The NIFometer was designed for clinicians in busy environments where it makes more sense to use a quick, single-patient device that can be disposed of, rather than reusable equipment which requires cleaning/sterilization between use and may require calibration.

@@MercuryMedical I GREATLY appreciate your reply! I LOVE these Disposable NIFometers. They're wonderful! And I give you thanks for developing such wonderful, devices, that can be used on a single patient, and then disposed of. You don't have to worry about sterilizing these devices. Which is wonderful!
