@@boonecollard Yes thanks for posting this video. I used two screwdrivers and had to put a heat gun on it to finally get it to release.

Thanks a lot man.You save me lot of nervose (and money) cause these days I have the same issues.My sear ray 175 with merc 4.3 stopped running on the sea…My mechanic supects carb,valves,timing chain,bad compression…hell a know what else…he has no idea what to look more.I thought maybe is distributor cap and the water condensation inside …

It's probably your timing turn your timing Advance some and see if it works better run better same thing happened to mine that's what I did Advance the timing some and it cured the problem

Thank you very informative. How do you work in those jammed engine compartments? Is changing the plugs a nightmare?

The oil filter has been the worst so far, just give the engine a big ol hug.

i had the same issue but on a mercruiser 3.0 , my solution was to , change the distributor cap / ignition coil (both probably 50 bucks on amazon) ,and................ that didnt solved my issue. what actually did it , was , before trying to start the engine, just put it in contact , wait 3 minutes , let the electric choke fully open, and booom, that did it, now i start the engine every time, with no issues i think the combination of new parts and waiting for the electric choke to warm up and fully open helped in my case. hope this help to anyone , i know the frustration feeling , (in my case my wife yelling at me while trying to start the engine, saying, we are selling this crap when we get to the shore)

Check your coil. It sounds to me the mechanic replaced a lot of things that did have anything to do with it running.I’ve been around boats many ,many years.replace t your ignition parts. And if you have a condenser that little thing will cause problems if bad.as to a hot engine. If the engine over heats. A hot engine may not start.and watch so you don’t keep cranking the engine where the positive battery cables starts to melt etc on the solenoid.check your timing ,ignition parts,check your batteries so they are strong.check that coil though

Hi man, i got the same motor. I have changed the ignition module but no changes. Still no spark. The coil is new and working and the sparkplugs are new aswell. Any tips?
@boonecollard2 жыл бұрын
The mechanic I used suggested to rebuild the distributor first, if that didn't work to replace the ignition switch. Check the switch that momentarily kills the engine when you shift, I think it is the shift interruptor switch.

Thanks for the video. So what exactly did you change to get it fixed? thanks.
@boonecollard2 жыл бұрын
I believe the main problem was the ignition module but all of the distributor needed to be rebuilt

You mention the sensor by the distributor several times, but I did not see you mention what the name of this sensor is, do you know what that is called?
@boonecollard3 жыл бұрын
It is called the ignition sensor, the kit I bought came with the sensor, cap and rotor all for around $80.
