Re-Visiting a cool video we made a few years ago of Scotts boat issues and fixing his boat after he had to get his long block replaced and a few bad mechanics.

Just like to make comment.. With the fuel alcohol blended fuels today its been my experience that with most boats that come into my shop with water in gas its not sabatoge or bad gas from pumps. Not even the owners fault. Pure science prevails here. All marine built in fuel tanks have a vent in them. The vent is carried to outside the boat via a hose. There is a small fitting that fits thru the hull to vet outside. Where gas fumes go out air comes in. In summer time humidity levels rise. The humidity content of the air that enters the fuel tank will be extracted from the air due to alcohol and oxygen molecules attract each other. A fuel tank with less than half a tank setting all week will have, depending on size of tank and the relative humidity that week, a fair amount of water in it. Over time it will be enough to finally reach the fuel pick up and end up in carb. Things to do to mitigate water in gas 1. Fill your tank with gas on way home from lake. No room for air in tank if full of gas. 2. Use non ethanol fuel. 3. Never let you boat set for over a month without fuel stabilizer in gas and not filled up. I'm certified and have 38 years experience in marine industry. I just subscribed to this channel and I'm all for teaching others how to fix their own boats or at least learn what your mechanic is doing to it.

Where do you buy your fuel , If it`s an old service station right there is your problem ( Sitting gas ) , Another thing I never do is fill up when the Tanker is there it stirs up everything in the bulk tanks below and it sends anything up thru the pumps ,I fueled at Petro Can once with my boat it filled the diaphram with a hairy rat looking thing We had just tuned the boat 3 days before unless someone had put something in the nozzle tip as a sabatoge - Nice boat 4.3L have there issues too for throwing rods .

The water in the fuel was caused by someone either someone sabotaging the boat with the prior owner or from a prior sinking by the prior owner.

Did you check the water separator? If so, did it have a lot of water?
@fiero8806 жыл бұрын
Scott found nearly 5 gallons of water a week before this video was made. Although the water separator did work, there was just way too much water for it to allow gas to pas through.

fiero880 No matter what caused it, it still gives you an icky feeling.

5 GALLONS!! Wow that isn't condensation. I was thinking change the water separator anyway while doing this, they're cheap. I'm doing mine today as well as spark plugs in hopes of alleviating a hesitation issue.

I can all but gaurandamntee you that water in the fuel did not burn down a piston. In order for that to happen the boat would have had such a misfire & lack of power it likely would not even rev high enough to get that tub up on plane. Judjing by the fact that you tools had no cooling water source hooked up while running it on the trailer...it’s a good bet the water pump is smoked and he repeatedly overheated the motor.boat waterpumps are NOT car waterpumps. Starting the motor on the trailer without a source of water (to keep the pump cool) has lead to many a moronic boat owner burning down a healthy motor.

Sorry to burst your bubble but take some time and look at the rear left of the boat. Do you see the water running into the sewer drain ?? Oh you do ?
