Meridian: Mission to Minerva | A Sci-Fi UNREAL ENGINE 5 Short Film [4K]

My entry for the Mission to Minerva challenge: Meridian. [21/12/2022]: Top-Ten Finalist for the In-Motion Category! kitbash3d.com/pages/minerva
This was a fun little short - styled like a documentary, or something you’d find on the BBC or National Geographic.
Using a combination of assets from the MAWI Redwoods Pack, Quixel Megascans and custom assets modelled and textured in Blender - and of course the Minerva Kit by Kitbash3d. Rendered entirely in Unreal Engine 5.1 on an RTX 3060. Editing in Davinci Resolve.
Utilising Nanite meshes, Lumen for global illumination and reflections and (experimental) RTX shadow support for the directional/sky light.
I wrote the script and and the narration voice is courtesy of the Replica Studios text-to-speech generator.

I think we've achieved hyper-realistic at this point, Now we need to bring down the quality and soften the edges to make it more realistic

Stunning work - well done! Absolutely love the Sunday-afternoon-in-the-sunshine feel you achieved ;) Just one comment - the text-to-speech works really well, but may I suggest manually putting in a few pauses in the narration? A few of the sentences I felt out breath for the AI's sake!

Thanks! And as for tips... I'd say one of the biggest ones is to keep iterating - real time really allows for some rapid scene iteration. Otherwise, I've got a couple of concept overview/tutorial videos - mostly about cinematic workflows if you're interested!

Your stuff is nothing short of spectacular. I don't see how you have time to make all these videos. Is this mostly kit bashing or are you actually making 3D assets as well?

Thanks! And it's a bit of column A, bit of column B - as much I possible I try to rely on ready-made assets - but sometimes there's something specific that I want for a scene so I just build it myself...I model and texture mostly in Blender before bringing it into UE5 and building my materials etc... there...

@@lion_towers3d Yeah, I guess I sort of knew part of that answer because I saw in another video that you mentioned you created the planet atmosphere shader material, which looks awesome by the way. Really impressive work! And a great source of inspiration for those of us who wish we had your talents. I develop VR for a living, but I'm more of a nuts and bolts programming guy and not so much an aesthetics guy, so I am naturally impressed by skills I haven't practiced that you have.

Question is it possible to make s short film with unreal engine 5 without paying any of the asset that requires money? Also, is it hard to do as in does one need to learn how to code to do what you just did with unreal? Edit; will a gpu like a 3080ti be good enough for what you did or no?
