Mermaid tails are dangerous if you aren’t a strong swimmer. The girls in the video were swimming with silicone mermaid tails, those are very heavy and for pro mermaids.

Some tail makers do make tails thicker, but they are very heavy - over 50 pounds. This makes them very difficult to get into, out of, swim in, and do any maneuvering when not submerged. They also tend to give a lot of blisters because of all the stress put on the feet. Tails that fully hide legs, knees, and ankles are only made by certain Special Effect companies, and have only been used in TV and Movies (like H2O Just Add Water and Fish Tales) because they are not safe for normal use. Those who use those tails have to have multiple handlers and safety divers close by at all times.

To sink, you exhale as much air as you can while still keeping enough to hold your breath :)

This tail has a Finis Trainer monofin in it. It allows for some kick, while keeping the fluke light and flowy :)

Thank you! 😊 I've always loved having long hair, ever since I was little! Well for one, I no longer use permanent dye all over- just the roots, then a use a semi on my ends. I'm still recovering from years of doing permanent dye all over 😭 Before I go in chlorine pools, I wet it with fresh water first, or put in coconut oil to help protect it, then use swimmer's shampoo and conditioner after. Day to day, I braid it if I'm not going out so it won't be damaged as much, and I wear a sleeping cap to keep it from tangling like crazy while I sleep. I only wash it every 3rd day (necessary part of long hair care with letting the natural oils help keep things healthy, and part of colored hair care as well). I use non sulfate shampoos and non silicone conditioners. I never use a blow dryer, straighter, or curler on it, or any harsh hair treatments. That's part hair care, part me having no time, energy, or patience for that stuff 😋

Most likely, whatever it is will see you and even if it thinks you look like a fish, you look like a MUCH BIGGER fish, so it's unlikely they'll mess with you. In lakes there's nothing that's going to bother you. Unless you get all up in a snapping turtle's face, anyway. The only things you really have to be wary of looking at you like a meal in the ocean, are bull sharks, tiger sharks, and great white sharks. Bull sharks you're more likely to come across than others (but it's still rare), and are notoriously aggressive. But most sharks won't mess with you if you don't mess with them (and there are 440 known species of sharks). I know some divers who dive with sharks constantly. They pet them and feed them and have no issues because they are responsible and know what to do and what not to do. I know several mermaids who have swam with sharks with no issues. I have come face to face with both a 5ft barracuda and a big hammerhead shark (this was in the British Virgin Islands.) The barracuda may look intimidating because it open and closes it's mouth, but that's part of how it breathes. It was about 4 ft away. It turned to look at me, had it's this look on it's face almost like, "Oh look, another human, urgh", then turned and started swimming away. I even followed the hammerhead for a while. Neither of them had any interest in me. My more common fear when I'm swimming in the ocean are jellyfish- because no one likes being stung by a jellyfish, and they can be hard to see!

It's silicone, not fabric or plastic. It's very tight, and because it's silicone, it suctions to your body. So yes you can see the indent where my legs are a bit. But that happens with all tails, no matter what it's made of. Unless of course it's a super heavy bulky tail made for movie or TV (like the ones for H2O) , but those are hundreds of thousands of dollars and not available for the public to buy. A costume to turn a human into a half fish isn't going to be perfect, that's just the nature of the beast ;)

I agree with you in that if mermaids existed in the depths of the ocean, they likely wouldn't be pretty and be like the mockumentary designers dreamed up. But why insult people who do this for fun and/or as part of the entertainment industry? Do you go on cosplayer videos to insult them for being "fake and nothing more"? Do you go on kids entertainers videos and insult them for being "disneyfied hollywood crap"? Mermaiding is a mix of both of those. Why come on my channel, to watch my video, just do you can insult it? Do you really have nothing better to with your time do than tear people down? That's pretty pathetic. I've been mermaiding for over a decade. Your know-it-all condescending tone is nothing new to me, honey. Haters gonna hate, trolls gonna troll. You may think I'm "nothing more" than a "fake mermaid", but I have been told by thousands of people how I have brought them joy and inspired them by doing what I do.
