I've had a MyQ opener "assistant" for a few years that worked so-so. I bought the HomeKit bridge but it never worked (and this was before my recent dive into HomeKit) so I pulled it out. I've used it as a standalone function. Now that I'm smart-ifying my home with HomeKit, I wanted a solid garage door assistant for my Genie garage door opener. I was surprised at how few options there are. I bought the Meross assistant with some trepidation because all the reviews say that if it isn't compatible you have to reach out to the company for some add-on. I'm happy to say that the installation was very quick, the app installation instructions are really good, and the darn thing worked first time. I intend to do some automations for my garage lighting and am confident that this accessory will be a big advantage. I wanted others who are researching these devices to know about my success.

I've been using mine for about 2 months now (didn't mean to sound like MKBHD! lol)and it was the best choice I made to make my garage door smart! It's been flawless and after installation and setup, I haven't had to think about it since! It just works!!

Get this one guys. It simply works and works fast every time. No transmitters with batteries on the door itself just old school wired magnetic sensors that don't fail. I've used two other major brands of HomeKit openers and this third time was the charm. Wired is always superior to wireless. If you don't care to run the wires you'll have a opener that simply works. The one thing that could have made it bullet proof is the addition of an RJ-45 ethernet jack for those of us who prefer wired over wi-fi. That being said the Meross opener connects to your wi-fi the fastest of any of the openers I've used before and doesn't seem to get a lot of that updating all the time.

I got this Meross device as soon as it came out 3 months ago to control my Alutech Levigato 800 garage door opener. It works great apart from one problem. As the door is a double sectional it takes a while lowering to fully close and the magnet/detector to both meet. This duration is apparently longer than what HomeKit expects it to take and causes the Apple Home app to display the message 'Obstruction detected'. This occurs at about 4/5 of the closing sequence and this status doesn't change even after the door is fully closed and the magnet reaches the detector. The solution I found to get around this was to add an additional neodymium magnet to the door about 30cm below the one provided is located, so that this one reaches the detector before HomeKit's expected duration times out. This does cause the Home app to get a little confused saying the door is "Closing...Closed...Open...Closed". A slight bugbear if you have individual iPhone notifications enabled for the Meross opener but if you turn them off you would never know. Ideally it would be better if you could change the expected closing duration as a setting (something like 15, 20, 25 seconds) in either the Meross or Home app. Maybe in a future firmware update? Interested if you can find out more Jon. Meantime hope this helps if anyone else has the same problem.

Really useful video this - which I found after purchase, but before installation! With reference to the CarPlay dashboard button, I found the following. 1) Add the location of each device in the Meross app 2) You need to have location services switched ON with your phone 3) You need "Siri Suggestions" switched ON in CarPlay settings 4) after requesting Siri opens / closes the door a few times it appeared as a button on CarPlay 5) It only appears on the screen where you have navigation, music and suggestions all on the one screen.

installed just installed this and it works great. The hardest part was running the sensor and placing it in a spot where the door wasn't hitting it when opening and closing. Of course that is very minor. I've only been using it for a couple days but so far but love it. I also have a goodnight scene that makes sure the door is closed. My other oidea is an emergency 911 scene where I han hit in an emergency and my phone will text a friend, notify emergency services, open the garage door and unlock doors and blink the lights. Even just using it as a door opener it's a perfect add-on. The only disappointment I have it setting up an automation when I arrive home. But that's not with the device it's homekit in general. It doesn't register I have arrived at home until I hit the WiFi and if I am outside the garage door I don't get a signal until the door is open. But I do have an Apple TV so I have that setup as my home hub so I can still open it with a click of a button of asking Siri to open it.

I have this and it works perfectly. I have a Skylink IQ series garage door opener, which is not listed as one of the Meross compatible models, but it works fine. I love being able to open the door using Siri, and to determine whether I’ve remembered to close it by asking Siri whether it’s open or closed.

Amazing video as always! I have already bought one actually! Meross have said I need an accessory to use mine........ which I am still waiting for! Hopefully Meross haven’t forgotten to send me it 🤞🏽

Hi Jon, Thanks for the review. Does the Meross handles the security pin code safety thingy? I have a garage door linked via homebridge and I don’t have the option to set a pin code. So when I ask Siri to open the door it asks that I either set a pin code or unlock my phone. I was wondering if that was the case with the Meross as well.

Hello Great review, I installed a couple of these but cannot get to any device settings in the meross app, I constantly get error messages stating that the door is obstructed, I want to change timeout settings but simply cannot change anything in the meross app. Am I missing something, please advise

Hi, my setup includes a motorised roller type door with separate controller/receiver which sets the limiters and includes the 433Hz receiver etc, would you happen to know whether the Meross controller connects direct to the to the separate controller or directly to the roller door. If the latter, does the Meross have the ability to set limiters for the door to stop and start the motor etc?

I have a question. I've been using my homepod to open my garage. im not sure it that was a bug (security issue). After i updated to 14.4 beta 2, i could not open my garage with my homepod anymore. is this normal?

Do you have to use the door sensor with this? I have a Wyze camera that reads a QR code on the door which tells me if the door is open or closed. I didn’t realize that it’s not compatible with HomeKit so I ordered this to use with Siri so I can open the door from the Bluetooth comms system on my motorcycle helmet. Literally only need it for that since the Wyze unit works perfectly for everything else.

im wondering if it just a "dumb" device in the sense that it will just trigger the "press" signal or will it actually send/recieve/interpret the data from the manufacturer like errors and such? for my case the manufacturer "marantec" has inhouse device called maveo starter bundle wich also has a hub but is like 4 times the price of this meross while also not even supporting homekit but has features like leaving the door a little bit open to let the gases go out...

I like the idea of adding it to your goodnight routine. It would be great if it would sense when the car was close and open the door or close when leaving.

I have the iSmart Gate device and have had really good results with it over the past 6mo. That being said, if I didn’t have multiple doors to control the Meross would be a great option!

Can't seem to get any automation or scene to work for "when I arrive, open garage door". Closest I have got is when I arrive I get a prompt from homekit "time sensitive" asking if I want to activate automation? If I press yes then garage door opens. I could always press a button to open the door so I don't want to be prompted. I just want the door to open when I arrive but can't find any help as to why mine does not. Thanks.

Meross Door Opener is great as you say, but for some reason CarPlay has no HomeKit app OR Meross app. I’ve gone in to settings add them but they don’t show up. I can’t understand why?

nice review - though after about 6mos, mine has now decided to open and close randomly after I initially click in the app to open/close it - seems to have started happening just after the firmware 'upgrade' too.... tried different settings including changing trigger duration - may have to reset it all and start from scratch, bleh

Installation query!... My brother's MSG100 Meross device has blue and black terminal connections (stated to be interchangeable) but the garage control panel that it was supplied with (Teleco Automation TVRSP868E02) has three control terminals (brown, green and white) - presumably that ties in with its own physical remote control being a two button device but I'm not entirely sure whether there's a link there. Does anyone have any idea which two of these three control panel terminals the brown and blue Meross wires need to be connected to? The Meross installation guide seemed to be silent on this and we couldn't find anything at all from Teleco! (Also, out of curiosity, how does the Meross unit send distinct open/close signals along these two wires and how do these interact with the three wire Teleco control panel system in terms of signalling compatibility?) Thanks!

I would be interested in hearing how it is working after 2 years. Mine has so many issues, had the unit replaced, disconnection and reinstallation required many times. It is a joke.

I've installed this and it works fine until I get in my Chevy Camaro 2022. Then I get a no response message, and nothing works. I've re-set the router several times as well as reinstalled the Meross app and re-discovered the unit. No change. Best of all, no customer service phone number. The more we progress, the more we go backwards, it seems.
