To be honest Messi didn't deserve the last ballon d'or. Copa America is not that hard to win for Argentina and Messi didn't score since quarter finals, missed a penalty in semifinals. And his performance in both Barcelona and PSG was average. But I get what you're saying Mbappe is nowhere near Messi's level, and disrespecting possibly the best player of 2010's or even all time was very low from Mbappe.

Es posible que ni en su vida Mbappe llegue a ese nivel nunca. En espacios cortos Messi era de locos,imparable como dices, y en la liga donde mas se achican espacios. I don't understand why people attach so much prestige to the world cup. The champions league is the premier competition in the world in my opinion. Most of the teams that participate at the world cup would be slaughtered by the top clubs in Europe. In fact I don't see any international side that would compete against the likes of Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Barcelona and other top clubs of Europe. If mbappe averages his goal and assists tally until now for the next 10 years atleast, then he would come close to Ronaldo and Messi. If he improves his numbers from now on and outperform his average, then he could surpass Ronaldo and Messi's numbers. All considering he has no major injuries in his career! But the important thing comes down to winning major trophies with his club. At international he's already blessed to have won the World cup at only 18. He also has the Nations league. And it won't be difficult for him to win a Euro in his career. But to enter the GOAT debate he must prove himself at elite club level in a different competitive league. And he must also win atleast 3 UCL. If he doesn't become successful at club level, then he would just be another great goalscorer who has scored a lot and has a World cup, like Romario.

Why do folks use team trophies to compare individual players? It still baffles me. Messi was better than Mbappe at his age, I think that's pretty obvious to everyone. The CL or the World Cup have nothing to do with it.

Definitely. Messi could create a goal out of nowhere surrounded by 5 defenders while all mbappe does is pass, run, receive, run more and shoot. Very effective player but nowhere near messi

@@rawacademy5450 Argentina, in the 2019 World Cup, had one of its worst coaches, Sampaoli, we went to the round of 16 for very little. The team we had did not pass the ball much. If we had had Messi at 19 years old (since in 2019 Mbappé was 19), and with a good coach, like Scaloni, we would have beaten him, at most, with a 70% chance of winning and a 30% chance of losing. That´s the reason France has a WC. Also because they were one of the best teams in 2019.

Messi is not only a prolific goal scorer but he also has the most assists in football history. If he's not scoring he's assisting. He never needed speed to thrive. Mbappe on the other end is only a goal scorer, and he heavily relies on his speed rather than on his dribbling ability. As he ages he'll be a lot less impactful than Messi was at the same age
