These mowers go onto the front loader of your tractor and are great for clearing brush or reaching over the side of a pond bank or trail.

I got one of the last TrailBlazers from a dealer near my Kubota Dealer in the next town over. Frankly, the mechanics at our Kubota dealer thought the TB was a better setup than Lane Shark with the independent power pack. We just mow with it straight out front rather than offset. There is a spot on each side of the TBin the back where it looks like you could put on caster wheels in order to adjust to the ground. We may try that in the future. We may try to run a front hydraulic auger since we have a power pack that gives you a continuous flow of around 12 gpm.

I’ve had my LS2 for 8 months and run it on an MX5400. I’ve probably put 75 hours on the unit since buying it. If I would’ve had to pay someone to cut/clear all I’ve done so far, it would probably be more than double what I paid for LS to begin with. Not to mention that I’m on my time and not someone else’s. This is by far one of my favorite implements and I highly recommend it to anyone who owns or manages more than 40 acres.

Lane Shark deck has always impressed me. Very well constructed. Exposed blades are the way to go. Maybe LS should put an optional (removable) high scoop on the top center and right side to keep material from collecting on the deck. Keep left side open visibly. I do think there are going to be some folks that run a bush hog at the same time (also adding to Neil's lack of tire ballast lol). I really liked that power pack ideas, for the customer that are concerned about their tractors hydraulic. Less installation for the DIY. Just run hoses. Glad M is selling a loader mower again.

That is a terrible idea. I work for a road department and we use boom mounted shoulder mowers to maintain the shoulders and backslopes of the roads. These things throw debris like crazy. Our tractors are fully enclosed and the cab windows on the mower side of the tractor have been replaced with shatterproof windows to protect us. Selling these to anyone with an open cab or a ROPS tractor is asking for trouble. Even on skid steers they recommend an enclosed cab for mowing. We use New Holland tractors for our boom mowers, I believe they are the 5580, and they are big tractors. Even though we sit much higher than the mower deck we take hits to our cabs all the time.

Such a Great Idea; a front mounted brush-slash cutter with multi-position with articulation. The machine ( which its mounted) running at "FULL-STEAM" is only putting out 9.8 gmp @ 2300psi =ing 13 Horsepower-/MAX! With the "fluid-friction" loses ;Equaling more like 9.5 Horsepower of "efficiency". YEA ,it worked ( light-duty) on very "sparse" & dry scrub-brush but Realy looks like it NEEDS 15GPM PLUS of hydraulic Flow to work properly without that MX5800 screaming it's guts out and "flushing out " 2.5 gallons of fuel out the Exhaust pipe per hour & realy just "limping" the SYSTEM on by. An Auxiliary& ( Expensive) "Power-pack" is Really needed ---/ by the looks of IT!

As someone who has followed these front mounted mowers for while now, one fact omitted from the video is that Messick's previously sold the lane shark several years ago. They then started selling the Trailblazer mower, and for a short time, actually sold both mowers simultaneously. Because of the competing companies they were forced to stop selling one, and made the decision to stop selling Lane Shark and sell only the Trailblazer mower. Now that Trailblazer went belly up, it looks like they've decided to start selling Lane Shark again. I'm sure that was an awkward conversation when Messicks/Lane Shark reapproached each other after being kicked out years earlier.
@karlbrundage7472

This sounds more like a patent-war that Trailblazer lost, which means that Lane Shark can now sell this type of product exclusively. In retail, there's no shame in the game. Messick's was selling products being offered on the open market, even in direct competition. Having a diverse product line is a plus for retailers and consumers, as competition keeps prices in-check. With the apparent loss in the courts, the Trailblazer product is no longer an option, which is a blow to consumers, who previously had the choice of two competing companies. Now, if you want a product that can perform these tasks, you will need to pay the price that Lane Shark Demands, as they have no competition in the market. Regardless, Messick's will be more than happy to sell you a Lane Shark product, and Lane Shark will be more than happy to ship as many units to them for sale as possible. The loss here is to the customer, because not only did we lose the ability to choose options that fitted our needs and budget, but we're now going to be completely at the mercy of Lane Shark's marketing department with regard to pricing, features and availability. This was an anti-capitalist decision that only harms small-time farmers like me.........................

@@kenneysheppard7763 honestly I disagree. We looked at both and the LS with a WR long kit out front (3rd function) was going to be way easier to deal with day to day. Having a power pack out back just meant we had less options when running our gun range tractor. Meaning with the LS, we can brush cut on the back with an 8’ deck. All the while keep the Lane Shark on the front, adjusted to cut high offset. Meaning we can cut the big lanes AND the trail sides in the same session. The additional benefit of this is..should the high cutting lane Shark knock something significant down into the lane? Just chop it up with the 8’ deck on back. Regards, Marky

We run one of these on our 11,000lb massey. It’s way more capable than I would have guessed. And yes, we have run it with a 8’ cutter on back. But not at the same time. The two biggest factors for us when choosing the Lane Shark was one, they invented it and we were aware they were in a big IP fight. Which seemed like LS was going to obviously win. But secondly, we didn’t want to deal with the stupid power pack if we didn’t have to. Lane Shark matches the deck’s motor to your FEL GPM number. You shouldn’t need a power pack as long as your tractor puts out enough gallons per minute. If you run a smaller tractor, maybe. But it’s better to just size it right and keep it easy. For shooting lanes and trails, it’s the main reason we got a tractor. Regards, Marky

@@brianmartin6303 We run off the a 3rd function (WR Long) on the front. Which still enables us to use a grapple, which we will need anyway. I don’t know if the Lane Shark offers a rear remote. I think I’ve seen it on smaller tractors however. All you would need to do is reach out. They are very responsive. Even on their YT channel. FYI. Our Massey 4707 if I recall has 17 or 19 GPM. So plenty of flow for the 3rd function. Sounds like you are the same. Why do you want to do the rear remote? Regards, Marky

@@John1911 part of my issue is I have a Quicke Loader with Joy Stick contril and can't find anyone with info on a 3rd Function option. So I'm lazy but might be forced into a off brand 3rd function.
@John1911
@John1911 Жыл бұрын
@@brianmartin6303 The Lane Shark uses a control box to activate the unit on and off. Not anything on the joystick. The RPM’s of the unit are obviously controlled by the engine speed - normal hydraulic flow. This is done for two reasons. First is safety. It takes the push of two controller buttons simultaneously to activate the cutter. Not something super simple on the stick. Second, when running the cutter the controller box keeps the flow open. If it didn’t, you would need to hold some button open on the joystick the entire time. Which would get old. But it also would damage the unit when it suddenly shut off the flow if you released it. So when you “turn off” that controller box, the flow valve stays open and the blade free spins down to zero. Much like when you see a helicopter turn off its engine. The blades just don’t lock shut. They free wheel. This free spin is still pushing coolant back to the sump. I suspect this is also why the Lane Shark doesn’t overheat tractors. The only thing you’ll be doing on the joystick is moving the cutter up and down. Not activating it. On or off. 3rd function comment. Lane Shark recommends, and actually now sells a dedicated WR long 3rd function kit. Funny enough, my local massey dealer prefers WR long kits to OEM ones for their features and design. And no, it had nothing to do with the Lane Shark. Not for nothing, but my Massey dealer wouldn’t even touch the Lane Shark or any FEL cutter. They weren’t familiar with it and didn’t want the liability. So we bought the tractor and implements from them. Had it all delivered on property. Then bought the Lane Shark from a LS dealer 100 miles away. They did the controller install on our Massey. (Kubota dealer). Hope this helps. Regards, Marky

I have questions about the tractor hydraulic pump having enough flow for a hydraulic motor. My 42hp tractor has a 9gpm pump and I don't consider it good enough to operate such a mower. I would prefer a power pack on my machine if I were to go the route of purchasing this mower. Plus my tractor has a LA854 loader, I'm guarded that my loader couldn't handle such a mower.

That 3rd line is a stupid way to do that. There is a valve assembly I think it is called an overrun circuit that can go between the 2 hoses allowing fluid to flow in one direction only. It works like a PTO overrun clutch. the way they are doing it looks like the pump is trying to suck fluid thru a closed line. With the valve the fluid just goes from the outlet port to the inlet port keeping the motor full of oil.
