I thought I would share a few experiences I have had with silicon molds and epoxy resins. Mainly I want to show that these molds will not last forever, at least the way I use them. If you have experienced problems like mine and wish to share how you overcame them, please comment and bring me up to speed. If you enjoyed this video hit the "Like" button and subscribe to my channel. I do not monitize my videos, so all I get out of your subscribing to my channel is a warm, fuzzy feeling. Thanks for watching.

I just started doing resin. I have one of those silicone cups and there was some uncured resin (I mixed the resin poorly) I was able to clean the cup with alcohol. You may give that a try. Also, some molds are meant to be shiny and some are made to be matte. Sometimes they become matte over time if you accidentally rough up the surface. I have also been told that sometimes when you run heat over the top of a silicone mold to release the bubbles, it can "fuse" the silicone to the resin. Not sure if these tips will help, but I hope so. I enjoyed your video and that charcuterie board was beautiful. If you dont mind me asking, what resin do you use on those? Right now, I am using Stone Coat Countertop resin because it is very heat resistant and I plan on making some coasters and maybe trivets.

Shanna, thanks for all the tips. I'll look into them. The resin I am using right now for the boards is Total Boat Table Top Epoxy. It pours a little thick, but evens out nicely and is supposed to be UV resistant.

I was going to ask you about using tempered glass, but I found out on another video it can be used for glass fusing, not sure about microwave glass fusing.

Have you tried using vinegar? It's a lightly acidic and not strong like what you had used. I think what happened is the lacquer thinner melted it, and when it dried, they fused together.

Do you have any idea why glass fusing molds are so expensive? Aren't they made of ceramic slip?
@CaptMike
@CaptMike Жыл бұрын
Yes, they are ceramic, but a lot of design and testing goes into a mold before it can be sold to customers with any confidence that it will perform as expected. I have made a few and they are not easy to make.

If you have room, yes. Just remember, the volumn will effect the time it takes to fire something, even glass.
