MESSY TO MINIMAL 3 YEARS LATER: Have I FAILED? | opening up about struggles, decluttering + family
Today I'm having an honest chat with you all about some things on my heart and mind as we head into 2023. I'm sharing some of the goals and intentions I have for my life in the new year as well as what you can expect to see on my channel throughout the coming months. I get vulnerable and honest about my life as a youtuber and how it affects our family as well as lend some encouragement and advice regarding questions you have about minimalism, decluttering and simplifying your own home.

♥️ PLEASE READ! ♥️Hey friends, thank you so much for the love on this video! Your comments and the great conversations we’re having just warm my heart so much. I wanted to add some additional clarification to what I said about gardening and homesteading content on this channel going forward. I added a little bit of text on the screen, but I think it’s easy to miss 22:09 *I have no intention of completely taking gardening, homesteading or outdoorsy content off of this channel. I love sharing that and I know many of you love seeing it. It’s just not going to be the focus of any of the genre or niches that I highlight in titles/thumbnails on my channel. The algorithm is a forever moving target, and I hope someday it moves to aligning with sharing more and more of that but as it is right now, I can only do so much!*

Hey, I know you seemed wistful because you “aren’t funny”, but please know you have another gift. Your presence and your voice are calming, and I would even say soothing. For someone like me who struggles with anxiety it means a lot. It definitely helps me work through being overwhelmed so I can take care of my own house and be present for my family. You are also incredibly kind. Just the reassurance you express toward viewers who are also struggling is so appreciated. Keep being you! I look forward to seeing your new content this year. ❤

My mom had 6 kids from 1989 to 1998 and the biggest thing she stresses to me. When it comes to your babies "Dont stress the little stuff" she holds on to so much regret making our house always look perfect and having cared SO MUCH about how we all looked. She says she was so stressed out for so long by the expectations she held for herself that she wasn't able to enjoy a lot of it. Slowing down and letting go of expectations of what motherhood and homemaking " look like" has made me so much happier. Happy new year from Germany!

Natalie you put it exactly right, I’d watch you talk about paint drying and still want to know which gloss turned out better. I’m one of the viewers that has been watching since the very beginning of your family channel, and I was only a teen at the time. The joy I’ve always found in your videos was you. You’ve felt like a kindred spirit in so many ways. Some days you wish you could sit down and bounce ideas off of yourself and to me that’s what watching your videos feels like. It’s a reminder of who I am, what my goals are, what I want out of life. Some days it’s a place to laugh at babies playing in syrup and some days it’s a place to cry with your mom and not feel so alone. I respect every decision you’ve made as a content creator, especially that you choose to do the right thing instead of what’s easy. But let me be the first to say, you could make 9 channels and I’d subscribe to all of them with the bell on 😂 I might not always have time to watch something right when it’s posted, but I’ll always make time to go back and watch them 💕

Great to see a parent respecting their children’s privacy... you can always record “home movies “ for just your family that they will get a hoot out of when they’re older. They will probably thank you for keeping their “embarrassing moments “ off social media however! Loved that you still have your tree up. Did you happen to get a new sofa? I like the light color! Keep up the good work & Happy New Year!

@@NatalieBennett Being honest is what I like about your content. Many subscribers are watching the same creators not only for main topic of their Chanels, but for the community, for the KZfaq friend who visits...... There is only so much that you could say about a topic without repeating oneself. we understand change, and even expect it in some ways.... There will always be someone to say something unpleasant, but maybe they just have a bad day.... keep up the good wok.

I’m a fellow perfectionist and have really benefited from your realistic and balanced approach to serving you’re family. “Progress over perfection” is my new phrase for the year. I appreciate you’re humble heart. It’s obvious that the Lord is using you in a special way to reach so many people just by letting christ’s light shine through you. You’ve impacted me. Ps. I cannot wait for the "messy to minimal" revamp!! You helped me so much when you explained how to just go for it (cleaning or decluttering) even if it's just a few minutes. There are so many benefits to doing it this way; it doesn't take long 😊, I feel like I have accomplished alot, it's easier to get started, it keeps me interested in focusing on what I'm doing, and little by little eventually everything will get done! I thank the Lord for you!!😘 I also like to write a list with different color markers that emphasize what tasks I need to accomplish and tape it to my wall; and I can make it comical (picture alot of exclamation points) lol

Your comment about the children really resonated with me. As a retired early childhood teacher, it’s so fascinating to me to see theory in practice. We learnt that early childhood age is 3-8, so nine years marks a new stage in child development. Also I often had to reassure parents that just because children may be a little late in their development of one skill doesn’t mean it will never happen. One day they can’t skip, the next day they can. It’s only when multiple development delays occur that it’s wise to seek professional help. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.

One of my goals for the New Year is to be more still so I can listen to God more. I just lost my older brother on December 22nd and this has been a rough couple of weeks. I just need to listen to God more and not push Him away because He is the source of comfort. He just isn't there during the good times, also the difficult. I need to make room for Him during the difficult times and Surrender to Him my heart during these times as well. This is why my goal of being still more is so important. So busy all the time, sometimes it is difficult to stay still to hear anyone, especially the King of all Kings, our Father in Heaven.

Happy New Year! Glad to hear you are feeling better. Can't wait for your videos this year. I think the gardening, homesteading and outdoorsy content can perfectly be a part of the content you put out in the day in the life and house to home for now. And when youtube allows it with the algarith when you make full videos about that I'll watch them :) I only have one hope for my family this year and that it will get better. Lots of struggles with school for my daughter (never have wished so much I would be allowed to homeschool, but it's illegal here), and healthwise etc. And with that that I am able to take better care of myself instead of putting myself last as I do now. And as a goal I would like to get some house projects done.

Requests 😬 organizing/storing Legos, sourdough class yes!!, Crash course on starting a KZfaq channel? I'm interested in starting one in a totally different topic but haven't had the courage to take the leap and there are so many sources to wade through it's overwhelming. ☺️ Cheers to 2023! 🎉

Hi Natalie! I am so happy to spend the morning with you and watching your video! 🥰 One of my goals for the new year is to stick to the promises I make to myself. I am running my first 1/2 marathon this year and it takes a daily reminder to myself that I CAN do hard things. I hope you have a very happy New Year! 😊 #premierefam

Regarding you saying your not funny, not a prerequisite for a you tube channel! I enjoy your videos for the info you provide, the every day-ness of them & your joy in life! As a fellow Christian, making our "temporary" home comfortable is being Martha's on earth. As to your list of minimal KZfaqrs, three of them I've been watching for a long time (different people, different ideals)

Totally agree with what you said about progress over perfectionism and letting your kids help and learn, even if it isn't done, how we like it done.

You’re one of my favorites on this platform. You have such a wonderfully calm demeanor, and you’re so eloquent. I would support watching any of your videos. Looking forward to your other content ❤

Natalie I absolutely adore your calm demeanor... you are a gem 💎 in this crazy world. And I totally relate to being a perfectionist... I don't have kids but when my hubby tries to help me with folding laundry or something I need to learn to appreciate it and accept the help without feeling the need to "fix" the folds!

Natalie thank you for all the work you do to show us these awesome videos, the content about minimalism have inspired and helped me tremendously to declutter my home too. While it’s not easy journey your leadership in this area has definitely kept me motivated to keep living a more positively minimalist lifestyle 😊 so a big thank you.

Hi Natalie! Thank you for answering my question in your video! As a new subscriber last year I didn’t realize you had already addressed the question regarding your vlog channel. I have immense admiration for your convictions to keep your kids lives private. I’m excited for new decluttering content this year and would love to see more cooking videos/blog posts. Your kind and gentle spirit has been a breath of fresh air here on KZfaq! Happy New Year to you and yours 😊

I'm glad you're being sensitive to your kids in their rooms. Crazy world that has become. Dawn from the minimal mom I have learned so much from her as well. Hqer minimal mom group and take your house back course. 5 minutes manners and progress over perfection. She is an amazing person and so genuine. Natalie you are amazing! I so appreciate everything you share. My prayers that God will bless you your channel in all the decisions you do in the videos you make in 2023. May the Lord bless your family

You are one of my favourite youtubers, because you seem to be so real, because you are not afraid to change, because you respect your children's privacy. I'm not even really into decluttering that much, but I appreciate you! And I really like the homesteading, too! #premierefam my goal for this year is to enjoy the stage of life I am in. I tend to get overwhelmed and just want to survive the days. I really want to change that.

One of my goals for this year is to find stillness in everyday life. I feel like I always need to be doing something or thinking about what’s next and find it very difficult to be present, so this year I’m focusing on slowing down to be here now. PS. Loved the countdown at the beginning of the premier! #premierefam

I could watch your videos all day.You are such a sweetheart and you love life. I do not think you show your children too much at all. No one can say you are making money off your kids like many do on here and I don't understand why some things slide by while others get dumped. Hope you have a great year with your wonderful family.

I’ve been doing sourdough for about 3 years and I have such a love for it. There are so many yummy things to make with it! English muffins, croissants, brioche, cinnamon rolls, and of course a traditional sourdough loaf. Can’t wait to see some sourdough content!!

Your channel is soothing. The talent you have to express yourself & explain things is amazing! I love when someone can walk you through the process or mindset of decluttering! That's a great teacher! I watch the other KZfaqs you mentioned also, but I definitely don't miss watching any of your videos. Would love to see cooking recipes & ideas. I always look to improve that. Also love your favorites videos.
