Vocals in the boss theme for MGR are meant to represent the bosses motivations (or the circunstances), like Rules of Nature is about how Metal Gear Ray became the apex predator of warfare, or "A Stranger I remain" is how Mistral can only find meaning in the battlefield, or It Has To Be His Way is how Armstrong and Raiden are 2 sides of the same coin. I'd say that they were very well written too

I gotta give props to one party behind this game’s OST that’s often overlooked. There’s amazing vocalists and composers here, but in this song in particular, the biggest driving force is that constant assault of electronic elements, and the one to thank for that is The Maniac Agenda. They’re producers who create a sound that compliments this heavy rock sound to a tee, and have a style that they define as a “big bass filled audio shish kabob”. It’s an interesting description, but it checks out.

I've had this song stuck in my head all day because of this video. Those stuttered(?) Vocals at the end of "disappeaaa-a-a-aaaar" give me damn goosebumps. I think it's been mentioned in previous videos but the vocals for boss fights, maybe not every single one, will be present or not depending on what phase of the fight or how much crazy over-the-top action is going on. It combines to really bring the energy up to an even higher level than just the song itself can, if you can believe it. I can't wait for you to finish the MGR OST so you can play it, its so FREAKING GOOD.

The OST is primarily balls to the wall and it makes it abundantly clear from the outset. The "Rules of Nature" meme comes from the first level's first enemy after a brief tutorial: Metal Gear Ray. It starts at 11 and only goes harder.

This is my favorite song in MGR the scene leading up to this fight and the whole section before the scene is just amazing then you start fighting the boss without the lyrics and once you get to that phase 2 and the vocals hit its just so awesome. Red Sun is my second favorite followed by a stranger I remain.

The one that stands out the most is the end credits song: "The War Still Rages Within". Fantastic lyrics on that one as well.

7:50 each boss theme in MGR has something to say about said boss' background story, it's story telling in the form of music and that's why it's so glorious, as for the other tracks, each tell something different about the world the game takes place in and it's current state or the nature of the enemy you're fighting.

It's worth noting that some of these vocals have pre-requisites to play, and while some of them are attached to the last phase, mere seconds or minutes before a Boss Death, others have a more meaningful way to trigger it. "Red Sun" only starts it's vocal when you break Sundowner's Shields and he goes fully agressive. "The Only Thing I know for Real" has it's vocals from the start but lose it when Sam loses his blade, and it returns when he take it back. I do reccomend checking all bosses ost, because some are nuts. If you want to add another game to the list with some good OST, I can only offer you Prince of Persia, Monster Hunter and Asura's Wrath.

The boss music in this game just really gets you so hype every time. Another one from this game you should check out is “A Stranger I Remain”

The most wild part is the composer for all the music in the game, Jamie Christopherson, mostly did classical and electronic music before working on MGRR. He had to learn how to make rock music and combined it with electronic to make the masterpieces we have in game.

All of the boss themes in this game are super philosophical and have a lot of meaning to each individual boss The lyrics also only play under specific conditions Like when fighting Sam once he drops his sword the lyrics stop With mistral they only play during her final stage Armstrong part 2 it only plays when raiden has Sam's sword in hand

I highly recommend "The Hot Wind Blowing" a personal favourite of mine from this game.

I bet you'd dig the Transformers Devastation soundtrack too. It's by the same developers and there's not a single track that's not a total banger, but Megatron's theme probably hits the hardest. Other recommendations are Blitzwing, Shockwave, Starscream, Menasor, Devastator and the CARGO LIFT THEME.

A Stranger I Remain is my favorite honestly, it was a bit disappointing that it was used for such an early boss. The songs themselves remind me of Celldweller and Blue Stahli type of stuff.

The vocals kick in during the 3rd phase of the boss. And I think more instruments get added in during the 2nd. So in other words you hear the lyrics at the most intense part of the battles. And it works...omg does it work. And yes, all the songs are balls to the wall. Last thing. All that remains fucking rocks

In game these songs generally start off as instrumental versions for the first phase of a boss fight and the vocals kick in for the second half when things get serious and the fight ramps up

Once the vocals kick in on the boss fight, it just makes you feel that much more powerful. And that’s because they picked the _perfect_ point in the fight and song to just ramp it up to second gear. To put it into perspective, I think that was the first boss fight where I legit screamed because of how much it hyped me up.

The only bad part about this song is that it's criminally short

I listen to this song in the background a lot when I play fighting games. Really helps me get into a groove with it, lol. One of my favorites when it comes to video game battle tracks.

The really cool thing about the boss fight music in this game is that most fights (there are some neat exceptions towards the end of the game that shake up the dynamic a bit) start with the instrumental, with the vocals kicking in to drive the pedal through the floor for the 2nd phase of the boss fight.

This is a game you should definitely check out, Jesse. It's an amazing time, and isn't a very long game. The music is of course fantastic, but the writing is great and campy while still delivering the usual metal gear philosophical clashes between characters. Raiden is great here, and manages to be super badass while also still being the absolute goober that he is.

honestly I love the mention of Six by All that Remains because it's by far my favorite song from them. It captures this spit second of energy that I've always wanted.

The boss songs of the game have 2 versions. One that is mostly insteumental with lyrics on key parts, and the other versions that are "normal songs" like this one. The "normal songs" also have extended versions (like this one). Also, I love seeing people react to this soundtrack, awesome video.

The ost in this game has one job, and that job is to make you feel SUPREMELY BADASS as you fight these bosses that OOZE with personality. And I'd say it does that job pretty well

Whats interesting game-wise is how the tracks are implemented.When the fights first start it's essentially a instrumental version.But then half way through the fight a mini cutscene will trigger and then the boss steps up to it's 2nd phase, the lyrics kick in for the songs 2nd phase. With this song it has a 3rd element, which has the crescendo (with that cool solo) at the end play as you finish off the boss in a cool sequence. It has the amazing effect of telling either your story as you play or the bosses story, as a lot of times the song represents the boss that you fight. I know you normally listen to the songs alone but i suggest watching the fight itself so that you can grasp fully what i mean. Anyway, it's more than just a kick ass ost, it's mixed into the gameplay so well it becomes greater than the sum of it's parts.

The Stains of Time is one of the songs I didn’t click with when I first heard it but listening to it outside of the boss fight it’s grown on me quite a bit

Every major boss fight (like this) has a vocal theme. The credits theme (The War Still Rages Within) is the only other vocal theme, and it's quite different in pace. Aside from those instances, the music is mostly techno instrumentals, half upbeat, half ambient. Glad you love the Metal Gear Rising stuff!!

Vocal tracks are reserved for boss fights and kind of add with lyrics to the story, as they are written from perspective of the boss, up until the last fight where perspective shifts to the main character.

The amazing thing about Metal Gear Rising is that the music kinda dynamically fits with what's happening. The vocals are actually absent until the 2nd/final phase of any given boss fight. In this song's case, the vocals kick in, and song jumps to 1:41 when the 2nd phase hits. And in some other songs, the boss will actually time their strikes so that your weapons clash in sync to the beats of the song. It's really amazing.

Fun fact, one of the composers for MGR:R also worked on the music for Toontown Online. Let that sink in.

Man he has to listen to A Stranger I Remain. It's a MANDATORY.

Kit Walters is the guy singing in these songs, or a lot of them. He is from my hometown in North Carolina and was the vocalist for an amazing band called scapegoat. They started out as a local band that clearly had what it took to make it big. They cut 4 amazing records and toured the US and eventually toured in Japan. I'm guessing this is how Kit ended up singing on the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack. Sadly, after they toured for their album "I am Alien" they quietly disbanded and went their separate ways. kit was doing some solo work that was pretty good but not sure if he is still active. They did do a reunion show about a year ago but I think it was just a one time thing. If you are a fan of the Deftones an original sounding rock/metal then you will love scapegoat!

I might be super late to the party, but more tracks of MGR I would recommend is I'm My Own Master Now and Red Sun. They're both very good.

The best way I've heard the Revengance boss songs is that they took the older games' boss codec call, mashed most of them together, cut them down to the essentials, and made them the lyrics for the boss songs.

A lot of the boss tracks in MGR are required listenings when I simply want to listen to badass OST. That alongside other game OST tracks like from DMC5 and.. if you haven't listened to Blazblue's tracks before, there are some pretty kickass ones there. MGR is pretty balls to the wall in presentation, yet does require a decent amount of strategy for the gameplay, if you want to make the most of it. It made heavy use of blade mode, where you can slice enemies to bits, and "Zandatsu", where you can grab the enemy's core mid-blade mode and crush it in your palm, consuming its energy in the process. But it tends to start with a well-timed parry first. It wants players to earn that presentation, to say the least.

The thing that I understood only now, this song is not Monsoon's theme, but actually theme of Jack's awakening, with flood of pain from the darkest days, when Raiden's peaceful life completely ended.
