Due to the style snd techniques that Mick Gordon encorporated in DOOMs OSTs, many fans have taken to dubbing this style of music "Argent Metal", which is fitting in my opinion, since Argent (more specifically Argent Energy) is a relevant term in the DOOM games. I think it's nice that this style has it's own little niche name, since I would say it has a few elements that make it a bit different from your typical metal music, one of which I would say is a shifted focus in the type of musical technique/finesse it displays. It doesn't so much feature advanced practical/instrumental technique, but instead relies heavily on the quality in sound production and editing (especially the synths and the, uh... home appliances) and the intricate use of tension/buildup, as you pointed out. If you end up listening to more music from DOOM, you may also notice that a great portion of it is simply meant to convey an uneasy feeling and a sense of lurking danger to the listener (or the player, in many cases), not so much as The Only Thing They Fear Is You, which just puts you in full-on chainsaw bloodshed mode. I would say the track Rust, Dust & Guts shows that very well. I'm not saying that none of these elements can be found in typical metal subgenres or generally other types of music, but I think that they are just especially dominant in the DOOM soundtrack and not found as much in other styles, or at least not executed in this manner. It's half past 5 am in my time, so I apologize if what I wrote isn't very well understandable or if I come off as pretentious or a know-it-all, that's not my intention and I would love to hear other opinions on this. Thanks for your video, I'm looking forward to seeing more awesome reactions. :) Oh, and once again, congratulations on going full-time with content creation Jesse! 🎉

The thing about the Doom OST is that it fits the game SO perfectly. It's music designed to make you want to fight. To rip and tear until it is done. It never so much as acknowledges that the flee response is even an option. It is music to kill demons too. Cannot recommend driving to it unless you're in a destruction derby.

This song is pretty good by itself, but in the context of the game it's truly sublime. This music plays while you're blasting, punching, ripping and tearing your way through endless hordes of demons and other hellspawn. It's like a shot of adrenaline directly into your brain, and just gets you in the perfect headspace for the action.

Though he actually gave a talk at GDC back in 2016 where he detailed how he created the sound for DOOM which was absolutely incredible, especially as a music enthusiast. Basically, Mick Gordon runs sounds through a massive array of synthesizers and other audio devices to distort the sound and create randomly distorting feedback loops and. His guitar is also connected to a program that mixes the riffs with the sound of the chainsaw from the original Doom, morphing them into the unique style that makes Doom so amazing!

As many have mentioned look up his talk at gdc to understand the rig he uses, the old soviet synth, and the 9string. but Liam Triforce did a great breakdown on how the music is composed and utilized in game from the first through eternal. The fact that its composed in segments which are arranged during gameplay to reflect the current chaos on screen which also makes arrangement for a sountrack difficult because they're just collections of indiviual "words" composing a virtual "musical" sentence thats never exactly the same each time you play that level or section. the drum march section is definite lead in and anyone who say otherwise is a liar. Its a lead in to listening to more music by Mick Gordon.

The way the soundtracks works in the game, is that every "track" is divided in segments, and according to the player's actions, the environement and the situation, the game reassemble the segments in different ways, so that the music is Always going according to the players actions If ther's only a few Demons in a small room, the music will be "mellow" (has it can be with these), while if you are in a huge arena with a shitload of Demons, the music will be Hectic and Brutal, and the way the players play also affects it, if you're mobile, and use divers weapons and score headshots or Glorykills. Thsi procedurial approach to the soundtrack is really well interwoven into the gameplay, and it just makes it so much better.

I really gotta say. Doom music is really intense and you did nail it, it's designed to really feel the music. And by "feel the music" I mean when you get into one of these fighting arenas. Where the doors lock, the demons spawn in to surround you, and the music kicks on. You start to really feel the music. You are reminded YOU are the doom slayer. After you really get used to the game, and get all your abilities in Eternal, when you end up in these fights it's like... Your brain turns off. The music just fills your head with the sound of your guns firing. It's like you're on autopilot and it just becomes 'rip and tear.' It felt that way at least to me and a few other people I talked to. Doom Eternal really gets you into that zone.

This is not the track to get your face punched to.. this is what plays when you're going to punch every face in a thirty-mile radius. And as Ryan Hampson mentioned on another comment, there are chainsaws and lawnmowers that were used before Bethesda said he was clear to use actual guitars, but he kept some of those sounds he'd created before then. As for the ending maybe leading into something, D4N5T3P was right, that part wasn't in the actual game's track, but the audio is a bit from 'Kar En Tuk', a very fantastic track. There's a behind-the-scenes for it somewhere.

That end part ("THE TEASE") most likely is about his journey. After tearing some place apart, he comes here to tear this place apart, and then about to go on to somewhere else to do it yet again. About the use of guitar, it's leftovers from DOOM (2016), where id software didn't want to use guitars for a very particular reason (Mick mentions it during "Game Developer Conference" during his presentation there). Something about metal being "a genre, that has become a bit of a joke". And about how he got those unusual, kinda creepy sounds, I would recommend watching Mick's presentation during "Game Developer Conference". It's a really interesting material. Though not a reaction material, it's an hour long after all ("DOOM: Behind the Music" on KZfaq, if you are interested). If you want more good DOOM soundtrack, it will be somewhat weird for you. There is a lot of gamerip actions around, but those are mostly not Mick's mixes. Well, most of the OST is not even mixed by him (sadly). But if you still want to hear those, then I would recommend "BFG10000" and "Super Gore Nest" from Doom Ethernal and "Rip and Tear" from Doom (2016).

Just found your channel one your last doom video and I’m hoping you post more soon!! Also, when you are done reacting to doom(good luck lol), you’d love the games. The only thing is, the games play the music so it’d be a spoiler

"I feel like my face is gonna get punched" yes... But you make sure you punch them 10x harder when the drop hits and remind them why you are the only thing they fear

That suspense you talk about? The track "Harbinger" from Doom 2016's soundtrack is literally 6 minutes of buildup with 1 minute of drop split between two different points. It's as ridiculous as it is amazing.
