This is my favorite of all the EW& F and it is because of its DEPTH of message. When they play it in concert people would sway their arms up to this song. The studio recording is much better than this one. It is song a bit different. There isn't that extra-long falsetto but I love everything Philip Bailey does. So many reaction hosts don't know that EW& F were so much more than just Soul music. They had a philosphy to who they were. The concept of the group was to their music was intended to lift HUMANITY to a higher vibe. Kind of New Age Soul.

Original version was in studio, & everything is clear. This is obviously more of a jam version. Verdine White, Maurice’s brother on bass, still hammers it out like he’s 26 yrs old or something, & he’ll be 70 in July. Back then technology wasn’t such that every performance recorded live would have optimum mixed sound. It wasn’t like it was being recorded for release, just documented. Their live album, which has some songs that you probably have listened to, is called Gratitude, & has an iconic version of Reasons. The ‘other guy’ is the late Maurice White, founder of the group & band leader, who unfortunately passed away do to Parkinson’s disease, at age 74. His brother is bassist Verdine White. If you haven’t already, you should give a listen to another collaboration duo who’ve recently released an album inspired by many ‘70’s group & artists influences including EW&F, called Silk Sonic, featuring Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak. They also harmonize extremely well. The 1st single was, Leave the Door Open, which made an incredible splash. But the one that reminds me of Earth Wind & Fire is called, Blast Off. Anyway, cool reaction! 👍

There library of music is massive Im quite sure you haven't heard all of their stuff including their jazz music before they crossover to R&B pop mainstream they still have jazzy elements in their music but infused funk rock. EWF was one of those bands you never go wrong with any of their songs. Maurice white & Philip bailey the main vocalists but maurice was the brains behind the name of the band. The production the music direction the writing the harmonizing. Dude of course that's live i knew people went to their shows it was a experienced to feel. They always performed live Philip was one of best high falsetto to do it. Keep digging and listening their music is timeless you can listen to another 50 yrs. And they're still performing after 50 yrs. Your talking about the late Maurice white he passed away in 2016 from multiple scholeris.

It may be redundant, but you need to react to the version on the Gratitude album. That is by far my favorite version. This one is closer to the studio/album version. Other tracks by E, W & F that you should listen to (if you haven't already) are: I Wanna Be With You, Serpentine Fire, In The Stone, You and I, Keep Your Head To The Sky, Imagination, Spirit, Sun Goddess (Gratitude album), Aw hell the WHOLE GRATITUDE ALBUM!!!, On Your Face, Saturday Nite, the song named 'Earth, Wind & Fire,' Love's Holiday, I'll Write A Song For You and Be Ever Wonderful. Listen to these tracks and you'll be educated on "The Mighty, Mighty Elements of the Universe!"

Metal biker dude there a better version of Devotion. It's on there white lp. the best version is Devotion live it's almost like what you herd. But in the lp. live version the middle of the song they gave a up tempo with the verse saying, come on y'all clap your hands this evening saying it's all right & they repeat it & go on from there & then it goes back to the original tempo. E.W.& F. -Devotion live is 1 great rolling skating song. cause you're cruisin' freestyling on skates to the song then the up tempo kick in & you're jammin' for a minute & then you're back to cruisin' freestyle.
