This legendary 30+ minute set in BABYMETAL history is known by some as the "Miracle at Sonisphere". Imagine being 15-16 years old and getting bumped up from a small side tent (expecting just 1-2 thousand to show) to the main stage in front of 65,000+ metalheads BUT 95+% of them never heard of you, some came to hate on you (based on their videos up to this point like "Gimme Chocolate" which had gone viral a few months before and thought they were a joke or gimmick), and these people are known to throw bottles at the acts if they don't like them! But by the end of their 30-ish minute set, the crowd is chanting "We want more! We want more!" as you can hear at the end of this video, since this is the closing song. They had the largest pits and wall of death's, as well as sold the most merch out of all the acts performing at that event (Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc). This show was the start of them blowing up outside of Japan and is considered a major moment in BABYMETAL history. This is why this show is my favorite of all their shows! Great reaction! 🦊🤘

Good one - this was their first major event outside of Asia aged 16 and just turned 15 (they played a couple of small gigs in France and Germany in the days leading up to this). They had originally been booked to play a small side stage or tent with maybe a couple of thousand people, but the video for 'Gimme Chocolate' had gone viral and they were creating a buzz. They had a show booked in London a couple of days later that had sold out very quickly so that was moved to a bigger venue - and sold out just as quickly. The Sonisphere organisers decided to move BABYMETAL's booking to open the main stage on the Saturday morning with just a couple of months notice. This didn't go down so well with some hard core metal fans who had maybe seen 'Gimme Chocolate' and considered BABYMETAL to be a joke or gimmick and there were threats made on social media of bottles of urine being thrown. The girls were aware of the threats, but from back stage at the angle they were they couldn't see any of the crowd and they were more worried what they should do if nobody had come to see them - the crowds are notoriously thin on a Saturday morning. They were given no extra time for sound checks or to mark the stage for the choreo. They cut a song from the set list so the Kami Band could go out and do sound checks, which attracted some attention. When the girls walked out on stage they were faced with something like 50-60,000 UK metalheads (funny you should mention Iron Maiden, they were headlining later that night) - they had a few of their own fans at the front who had followed them from Japan but the vast majority had no idea who or what BABYMETAL were and they were facing a sea of puzzled faces ... this was going to be a challenge. They played 5 songs and as their set progressed more and more of the crowd were getting into it - it sort of spread from the front backwards. 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (IDZ - it mean 'Bullying, No More, Forever') was the last song of the set. In that half hour they had gone from almost complete unknowns to having a huge crowd calling for 'one more song'. They had the biggest mosh pits of the weekend and their merch outsold all the other bands playing that weekend (including Iron Maiden, Anthrax and Metallica).

Babymetal does use some backing tracks and sounds effects like many bands (including metal bands) do for growls and sound effects and some backing vocals (which is completely necessary for the two backing dancers because no one could be expected to sing live well while they're busting out highly aerobic intensive moves while doing the dance routines.) But Su-Metal always sings the leads live. Some people try to say otherwise, but this is largely because, in Babymetal videos they often lay the studio tracks over the clips, especially on clips that are compilations of one of their songs instead of a single performance.

This is such a great moment in their history. In regards to the neck brace, it's a tribute to the drummer of a Japanese metal band called X-Japan. Their drummer injured his neck during a performance and had to wear one during shows. It's also related to some of the Babymetal lore, in that the Fox God sent it down to Su to wear for her first heavy metal concert, and was featured in the Headbanger music video.
@rickwagner-
@rickwagner- 3 жыл бұрын
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🚫 The neckbrace is a reference to the BABYMETAL song 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!'. One of the inspirations for that song was Yoshiki, the drummer/pianist/songwriter for the hugely influential metal/visual kei band X-Japan. He headbanged so much he had to wear a brace to try and mimimize further injury. BABYMETAL had several concerts where they gave out themed neckbraces.

Quote from our QUEEN… “I am so honored that we are confirmed to play Sonisphere Festival UK,” declares SU-METAL. “There are so many different types of artists playing this festival but I hope to deliver a one and only, unique style metal - BABYMETAL - even to those who will see us for the very first time. This will be our very first time in the UK, which makes us nervous, yet excited just imagining what type of people will come and see us, what sort of show it will end up being, and whether the audience will enjoy our show. We’ll hopefully get to see Metallica-san’s performance again after witnessing them at Summer Sonic festival in Japan which we are very excited about.” This is where history was made that day for BABYMETAL the way they won over the crowd. To hear the crowd chanting WE WANT MORE at the end must of made them very happy. And YUI-CHAN still rocking it live with a torn outfit, classic. BABYMETAL 4 LIFE

Kevin : Has anyone ever thought about the original conversation with the Kami band. Something like this "Hello guys, i know you are the four best metal musicians in Japan but i have an idea. I have three teenage girls that i want yo to play behind while they sing the songs, What do you think".... This i why i have so much time for these guys, they always leave everything on the stage. They never let the girls down. Boh is always giving 100% and the drummer .. well...what can i say... all of them. Also the girls never ever let them down either. What a band this is...They have to be one of the best of all time. I LOVE BABYMETAL.

Nice Reaction!! I may not be able to explain it well in English, but I'll try to write about Sonisphere. The BM was originally scheduled to perform at the sub-stage(few Thousands of audience), but due to many requests, it was moved to the main stage in a hurry. Audience of main stage estimates range from 55,000 to 60,000. Most of the crowd had only heard BM's name to some extent and the actual fans were only a few hundred in front of the stage. I think it was a battle itself for the teenage girls, as this is a big, full-blown metal festival overseas, and if they don't like it, a lot of plastic bottles are thrown to stage. Here's what SUMETAL has to say about this Sonisphere festival. ------ Maybe it was because I was trying to look at the audience at an angle, but there were no people in the audience at all, and I was talking like, "What am I going to do?". But that was just because I couldn't see the audience from the angle, and when I went out on stage, the audience was there. "There are people here!" And then it got interesting. The audience in front of me had their jaws dropped to the floor in plain sight. They're like, "What? What? What???" they looked like. I saw that and said, "Okay, let's do it!" I thought. I think this festival has given us the confidence to tour abroad. We believe that our music is one-of-a-kind, and because it's one-of-a-kind, it can bring the world together. ------ With each song, the crowd's cheering circle grew wider and wider. If you look at the crowd's reaction after the song was over, you can feel their Kawaii METAL that makes you smile and feel happy and brings the world together! I'm sure you all will comment on the content of the song, so I'll just say a few things. This song is a message song for those who is bullying someone and People being bullied. This is the dialogue section in the middle. いたみ(itami) = pain 感じて(kanjite) = aching ずっと(zutto) = all whe whileg ひとり(hitori) = alone 心(kokoro) = heart 気づかない(kizukanai) = pretending not to notice もう(mou) = anymore 逃げない(nigenai) = I'll never get away いじめ(ijime) = bullying だめ(dame) = no 絶対(zettai) = absolutely I hope you continue to enjoy your BABYMETAL. Put your Kitsune🦊 up! from Japan. (Translation by DeepL)

The title of the song is "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", which means "No More Bullying, Forever". Or if you translate it literally "Bullying, No Way, Absolutely". I'm really bad at this in English, but it's pronounced something like "Ee-jee-meh, Dah-meh, Zettai". They also say it in the little spoken interlude, it's the last line before the music comes in again. The little screen/tablet/whatever on the drum set is the set list, what songs they're playing and when, at least from what I've seen so far. You can see other tablets/screens/whatever lying around somewhere on stage sometimes if you really look hard enough. Often behind the boxes or tucked away somewhere with the drinks. The neckbrace is a hommage to Yoshiki, the drummer of probably the most successful Japanese metal band X Japan. Babymetal's producer Kei Kobayashi is a big fan of them and Metallica. Yoshiki injured his neck doing too much headbanging and needed to wear a neckbrace in every performance. He also had a habit of collapsing on stage after or sometimes even during live shows because he just went all out all the time. He's now a super successful producer and worked with a lot of US performers like KISS. He also wrote the theme to a Golden Globe or Emmy awards show a few years back.

Luv this concert. Just because I luv babymetal and I was sooo hyped to see them survive and not get bottles thrown at them. I wanted them to succeed and it was just such an awesome performance. They can 'do a crowd' better than any act I have ever seen. Hardcore UK metal crowd. 15, 15 and 16 yr old Japanese girls.. destroyed them. Most Merch sold.. Babymetal.. bumped from small stage to the main stage.. Babymetal.. they were so demanded... and they had never played outside of Japan. It's insane!.. Hope you are going nuts with your personal relationships.. this feels like a redemption vid as well. Go nuts dude!! Thx for sharing ;)

Babymetal has lip synched before :) In some early performances. But it was for a reason. The techno remix of headbanger when performed live was lip synched all the vocals were modified. Yui and Moa lip synched a cover song each because there was too much dance for them to sing or there was a heavy vocal backtrack where it was more or less the same thing. Su sings sometimes along with a vocal backtrack on certain songs when they want to double her voice for aesthetic reasons. There are also little vocal pieces of some songs that are on the backing track because they modify her voice for effect. They definitely do some things that are frowned upon. But they are not exactly a metal band. They're a pop-metal fusion and they more than meet metal halfway. Most people give them a pass because they're so good. Like how Ozzy got a pass for using vocal effects or how Pink Floyd got a pass on using sound effects. Su was singing live but Yui and Moa were assisted with a vocal backtrack on this song. If you're great the rules don't apply to you. Nobody ever told Erik Dickenson that he had to run the football play as designed. He'd take the hand-off and run where the hell he wanted to. The coaches told his quarterback not to obstruct his vision when they handed him the ball so he could see the whole field. If you're killing it in sales the time you're supposed to show up for work is optional. But if you're not selling you better be on time :)

Great reaction again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 "Dame Zettai (= No absolutely)" part of this title is originated from police campaign against illegal drugs which had started in 1960s. So this song implies that "Ijime (= bullying)" is considered as harmful and addictive thing as illegal drugs. Although we have unfortunately not been able to eliminate "Ijime" from our society yet , we have to continue our efforts at home and in school. In this video we see many mosh pits that are good signs to welcome bands. But I love more to see that the excited crowd gradually turned into enthusiastic audience. And when three girls started to speak some words in the interlude, loud cheers quickly subsided and the audience even tried to listen to what they were saying despite that the people could not understand our language. I am emotionally moved whenever I see that scene. After the performance, people in the crowd became happy, so did Kami band, and I am sure that the three girls fell asleep very happily that night.

Thanks for doing this reaction ! I'm not gonna repeat what Grington mentioned. In that case some day you need to do a full Babymetal concert live stream. My suggestion would be: Babymetal Metrock 2015. But better to first react to all the songs on KZfaq before you watch the show: Megitsune, iine, Catch Me If You Can, Headbanger, Road of Resistance, Gimme Choco, Ijime, Dame, Zettai. You are probably getting close already. Hope this relationship works out ! Enjoy the excitement. 6:02 "you know the heavy is coming." I remember a German guy reviewing a Babymetal album he said about such moments (paraphrasing/translating): "like a cactus up your backside !" LOL :-) 6:40 "OK, got a little Iron Maiden going on" a large part of the audience was probably Iron Maiden fans, this is the main stage and Iron Maiden was the closer that day. You know what's kind of funny and sad... Babymetal had made photos with many metal musicians at festivals, etc. And only one of the really big metal bands they've not had the privilege to have a photo with: Iron Maiden. Babymetal was actually going to perform at a show where some 5 bands or so would perform, of which Iron Maiden and Babymetal were part of, but because of covid it was cancelled. 7:33 "I love the squeal" this was Mikio's own addition to songs like this, it wasn't in the studio version I believe. It's one of the things that made Mikio very popular among fans and even non-fans. It's so sad he's gone. RIP Mikio. "no mistakes" there are some of the best musicians Japan has. And they love this job. "they are so clean" I think this might be because they are also session musicians ? "balls to the wall" that's what Babymetal does ! And that's why the metal crowds accepted these girls. I don't think they would be accepted without the musicians and they energy.

Today, 10th of the 10th, is Babymetal's 10th anniversary and their production company has put out tons of special CD, DVD and box sets. They also released a new Music Video yesterday, the storming song BxMxC. It has, right now, 475K views since yesterday! Worth a react, for sure! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pM1ooMtnr7utoY0.html . Great reaction and a great choice here, as this was one of their iconic performances and their first at a Metal fest outside Japan. They were aged just 15 and 16.5 and had the steel to walk out onto that stage (Metallica had convinced the promoter to give them a shot) in front of 65,000 Metal heads and perform this brilliant song about Bullying (Ijime) No More (Dame) Forever (Zettai), not a subject tackled by any other Metal band! PS Really happy for you at finding someone out there. Good luck and hope it grows faster than the channel even! PPS - We refer to this song as IDZ, if that helps!

This song got Iron Maiden vibe and DragonForce pace. The whole song is literally a solo routine for their guitarist😂😂😂 also you were right about the guitar notes, it was very clean and they barely miss a single thing from the song. Its japanese culture, they are very perfectionist. The band, the technical setup, everything was on point. Also the band is known as Kami (God) band, a collective group of professional musicians from Japan. Basically, they are the best of the best in japan. The second guitar Takayoshi Ohmura was also involved in a side project with Megadeth's Marty Freidman.

Don't be surprised if you see early BM videos where they are lip syncing and performing to playback or a pretend band (like they did in the official Gimme Chocolate video). When they started they were pretty much a low budget experiment, no one knew where they will end up. They started performing with live mics and a live band after 2 or 3 years. Apart from lip syncing the other thing in music which is not metal at all is using autotune. Well, talking about BABYMETAL and autotune... Let's just say that the producer decided to use it on the last album just to piss off the trve metalheads. When performing they have backing tracks with vocal effects but Su-metal always sings live.

@@UltraCasualPenguin You have misunderstood my comment in an epic proportion. I didn't write that they are not metal. In fact, I am a big fan of BM, I have seen them 2 times already and can't wait to see them again.
