I’ve been listening to rock and metal for a long time….And I can say with confidence that Bandmaid is the best hard rock band currently out there. Thrill was one of their first songs and they grew as musicians and developed their songwriting to very high levels. They incorporate a lot of elements to their sound … hard rock , metal, punk , progressive , 70’s rock etc… Misa, the bassist, is simply one of the best bass players I ever seen. She often will shred bass solos in the songs and still not overpower the song. Her and Akane, the drummer, make one of the best rhythm sections out there. Konami, the lead guitar, is a master riff maker. She writes the majority of the music for the songs, and the members will add their own flare as well. Miku, the rhythm guitarist/vocalist, is the founder and leader of the band. She writes most of the lyrics to the songs and is basically the face of the band. She was originally the lead singer, but her voice is light and softer.. and she wanted the band to have some extra punch vocally…so she recruited Saiki to be their lead vocalist. Saiki has a powerful rock type voice, and is a great front woman. Her voice combined with Miku’s lighter voice makes some great harmonies. Anyway you will get a lot of suggestions and you will discover that you will get different vibes and different styles with each song. I’ll just say that you can’t go wrong with any song you choose .. they don’t make any bad songs. They are great live so you defiantly need to check them out in a live performance. I’ll just throw out Domination (official live ) as one that is a must see. 🤟🏻

When this video came out, the Babymetal girls were about 13. I think people don't realise (because they'd never given it any thought) that the music industry in Japan is the second biggest in the world, and there are a ton of bands over there, in multiple genres. Pop still dominates, but rock is still a thing over there, and a surprising number of bands over there are all-female. Girls are just encouraged musically far more there than in the west, apparently.

The first song that introduced me to bandmaid was real existence, then I binged their live videos and was instantly hooked. Thrill intro and misa's bass solo are still some of my favourites but you should definitely check out more. In this video, it still looks like cute girls rocking out. It's like wow, that's great for girls playing this good...then by 3rd song (depending on which one you choose) you'll start paying more attention to their playing and finger movements than their gender or outfit. My introduction to the band was the On Set - Live (instrumental). Watching all 4 girls getting a small space to shine, and being blown away watching Kanami do finger tapping better than anyone not named Eddie Van Halen. This video for Thrill is 7 years old, and the songs for the first few albums were written by the label song writers.

Just like you Thrill was my first intro to Band-Maid, I too was blown away. Just a suggestion, whether you do a reaction vid or not, if you haven't already check out Real Existence, that was the second video of their's I watched, and it sealed the fact these ladies were the "real thing" for me.

The only connection between Band-Maid and Babymetal of which I'm aware is that Akane (drums) and Kanami (lead guitar) are on friendly terms with at least some of the members of The Kami Band, who provide the musical backing for Babymetal.

MISA! MISA! MISA! Holding the Line in Solid Guitar Rock, Band Maid has picked up the Mantel of Rock'n'Roll where the West has left it behind! I'm a BIG Fan of both Babymetal and Band Maid!! So, Babymetal and Band Maid are not affiliated. The similarities you noticed might be because Miku (rhythm guitar and vocals) was in Pigtails as is Yuimetal and Moametal from Babymetal. But that's about where it ends. However, I have stated many times before that I strongly believe that the Fast Rise of Babymetal in the early 2010's opened the door for other Japanese groups and I believe Band Maid to be the group that had the strongest chance to make it onto that World Music Stage in 2020 in form with Babymetal. Ah the world of Japanese rock and metal bands are incredible and they have plenty of all female bands. As for recommendations band maid are great live like Domination or Freedom and for future bands to react to there’s bands like LOVEBITES (all female power metal/thrash metal & hard rock band) and then there’s NEMOPHILA (all female modern metal band) just to wet your whistle lol

You like good surprises? Well, then you have found one, if not THE best band for it. The statements that they don't have a bad song in their now well over 100 song strong catalog are all true. And that they are even better live is also 100% true. The talent of each one of these ladies alone is great, but what they do with it as a group is just incredible. 'Domination' (Live), 'Freedom' (Live), Dice (MV) are probably among the most frequent recommendations.
