Mad props to James to adlib the parts he forgot. That's how a true professional does it. When I saw them at U.S. Bank stadium in Minneapolis in 2016 they played Leper Messiah and he completely forgot to sing the wichery weakening... part. Then like 5 songs later he goes "I think I forgot to sing a part of Leper Messiah" and they proceeded to do just that part of the song over again. I thought he did it on purpose to let the crowd sing (which I was of course). It was an epic save. I wish I knew how to edit videos and I would paste that part over it so it sounded like he actually sang it. It was still a bad ass amazing show.

This song is underrated - so fast, so raw, so brutal and so awesome - it has to be coming from experience, you can't fake this. One thing that I love about Metallica is that they are so talented and so passionate about the Metal Militia and their craft. I started loving Metal in 1992 when I picked up Justice. As a side note, IE# generational - My daughter is 6 and she really loves Metallica. "James has a nice smile but his voice can be so rough or nice" she says. Shes a little kid, and in kindergarten I guess they learn about fast and slow music. She just calls Metallica's music "really fast". Unrelated - Her favorite songs are Master of Puppets and Disposal Heroes.... So - that's what a VERY new set of ears and eyes thinks is the best work. I can't make this up. I love these guys and I just can't thank them enough for putting out excellent thrash metal since day 1. So many tours, so much effort, so much passion about this art form - and I love it.

Just listen to Lars play in Toronto in 1986. He was at his best there and could have easily done Dyers Eve and he still had the chops in '89 so who knows they didn't. The also never played Frayed ends and only played Eye a few times.

There is not 1 bad riff, line, note, moment, lyric in this song. It is the most metal-y-est song ever written. It is the peak of James Hetfield. It was everything he was hoping his music would say and then he just came right out and said it. This song - the anger and the meaning behind it - is why Metallica exists at all, and why most Metallica songs have ever been written. Think about that.
