I saw a video once of a climber who hooked a caribeaner to his left or right side, at or kind of behind his hip. He hooked the tail of his rope ( the section hanging by your feet when your spurring ) into that caribeaner and just that few inches of offset hanging that tail just behind his waist was enough to keep his rope out from under his feet. The rope hung off to the side of him so he never spiked his rope under him while spurring 😊

it's a great practice and good idea -- it's easy to get sloppy up there and mess up your ropes. little tricks like that are worth it. thanks man

We had another storm roll in Saturday morning. Lots of trees came down from an east wind. We had a large basswood hit our camp. The ground is saturated. We don’t need anymore rain.

Hey Spencer, I had an idea of how to solo rig limbs and chunks down and when I looked it up on KZfaq, you came up (as well as Buckin' Billy Ray). I ended up making my own slings out of some 12 Kn carabiners and 600 lb ratchet straps with a sewing machine. I'm rather impressed with myself for that. Saved a tonne and I tested my slings by hanging from each of them in the garage. Can't imagine I'll be using them for anything bigger than my weight. Anyways, I love how you explain what your though process is. Would you share how you ended up making your slings? (I'm assuming you made them yourself in a similar way).
@metaspencer
@metaspencer 5 ай бұрын
Sounds like you're making some progress! Yeah I also sew all my own slings using nylon webbing and high-strength rated thread (for climbing equipment manufacturing) ... you can see many sewing patters online but I tend to go with 6 bars or so just to be safe. Remember that your static weight hanging on them is different than a shock load, so be careful out there! great hearing from ya
@koreyhayes1621
@koreyhayes1621 5 ай бұрын
@@metaspencer Thanks for the reply. I don't plan on using these slings for anything too crazy. With the way that I've sewn them I believe it's the webbing that will fail first before my stitch will. When I set up these slings in the canopy it will be for manual lowering with a rigging line so I won't be doing anything too crazy with them. Thanks for the input!

I used to use an alpine butterfly at moments like that, but I've started using a version of a bowline on a bite ... it unties easier than the butterfly, in my experience
