Despite how she's mostly silent, I'm surprised to see Samus isn't a mute protagonist throughout. You'd think Nintendo would have been too afraid to have Samus speak after Other M. Now if only Nintendo would let Link speak every once in a while.

people who criticize other M's narration have not played the other main games only primes, nor realize 1 the primes, hunters and 2 all take place in a single year. She has NEVER been silent its just she's usually talking to her ships computer. Just like in other M the games are always narrated to her computer at the end in a monotone diary

@@Quintega while all of which you said is true it is noticeable when Samus was a bit talkative in the older games-especially Fusion, but ever since Other M Nintendo did their best to avoid that mistake by shutting her up. Dread was their first real attempt at giving her a voice back and I think they did it right. She isn’t in your face non-stop talking, but she isn’t a silent killing machine like usual. Nintendo tried to walk on the straight and narrow with Dread and I think they did a good job.

@@Quintega Uh having Samus speak is NOT why people criticize Other M lol. They criticize it because its story, characterization and dialogue were shit.

These specific cutscenes from Metroid Dread, are the best in my opinion. 11:56, 22:50, and 28:43.

Loved the game, love the story but there is only one of the very extremely few things I didn't like much. Although the game had its fair share of creatures, the mood was too...I don't know, mech tech like in OTHER M. I mean for stuff like the Galactic Federation it is ok, and I guess even a bit on the Chozo, but I have gotten so used to the fleshy gooey, creepiness of the biological aspect of the METROID games. FUSION was able to mix well the ambience and with all of that, but somehow it was a bit less on this game. I still love it, and what I found funny is that the story came full circle with making Samus a Metroid, because in the 80s players mistook her name as Metroid instead of Samus and mostly because in that time, kids and NES players barely if at all cared to read the instruction booklet that came with the game cartridges, and it was until the GB Metroid 2 The Return of Samus that many then realized of their mistake. Now, she is indeed a Metroid lol...I also still miss fighting Metroids entirely. I still believe that if the Galactic Federation was able to have a Metroid vaccine taken from the bits of the Super Metroid from Samus, they'd still should have stocks of it since in FUSION they were able to clone and reproduce them. I still think that can still continue the games.

Nah, it's pretty much confirmed that Samus is the only Metroid alive after this game and Fusion. Otherwise Raven Beak wouldn't have gone through the trouble of luring her to ZDR. I'd personally like the next game to explore either Samus' new powers as a Metroid, or maybe introduce some new galactic threat that she has to take care of

@@imsoready1114 Well yeah it is confirmed as you said but the thing is, if Raven Beal knew about the Metroids that were cloned by the Galactic Federation he would had attacked right away. My guess is that when Raven Beak learned of the Metroids' extinction in Metroid 2 he was put on hold as explained in the game and when he learned about the events soon after Fusion it is when he realized that Samus was the only Metroid. Yet, again we can't deny the possibility that Metroid DNA is still stored at the Galactic Federation. In that sense, like you, I too am very interested in seeing Samus' Metroid powers explored. Her losing control perhaps by the appetite for life energy and perhaps finding more Cloned Metroids and their reactions towards her. I really would like that the next game becomes a bit more horror oriented, that would be cool, and for it to take place more organic. Though I have noticed that the game series is very heavy into biomechanics, as even Samus' suit is biomechanical.

@@imsoready1114 Or it is possible Samus is captured (Galatic federation) and her cells are sampled to breed new Metroids... then things expectedly go to shit and she has to save the Galaxy again.

@EternalRoman I'm an 80's kid and I can assure you all we did was read instruction booklets to our new games especially on the way home in the car. even read lyrics from the cassette tapes from our favorite bands. I don't know one single person that grew up back then playing even the original metroid game mistaking Samus with a metroid, we knew exactly what metroids were, especially for us who finished the game or just opened the instruction booklet once. Only people mistaking metroid is recnt casuals

@@wm1958 I too am an 80s kid, and though like you I too used to read and re read the instructions booklets mostly because I love the different artworks on them. I too was clear who Samus and the Metroids were, but in my school and the neighboring schools around many people still called Samus Metroid and the same issue was with Link and Zelda. Trust me, I would get into geek arguments with others about this topic lol. Most kids would get their game cartridges and just insert them without even reading cause all they'd do is go at the buttons lol. Still there were those that'd play the game and beat it and still call Samus Metroid smh. It may had not been in your school and area, but it was definitely in my case.

I have to admit. I thought this was going to be a cheap lazy effort of a metroid game. $60 for a 2d metroid in 2021 is not a great value imo. BUT, they really put some work into these cutscenes. Think im actually going to pick this up now. Hope prime 4 has AT LEAST this level of production and storytelling or more. Sometimes metroid games are just a bit too bare of an experience. Very little story or character. Game plays always good tho.

The story is such crap. The game literally ended with a perfect set up for getting away from the Chozo/Metroid/X story line. Instead though, they just basically ignored everything from Fusion so they could have Samus deal with some weird daddy birb issues that barely connects to anything beyond Samus Returns. Just so dumb… but the game is fun.
