As an Italian speaker, I find Mexican Spanish way easier to understand than European Spanish

Mexican Spanish 🇲🇽 is a very easy language to understand, it is also easy to learn for foreigners who are learning Spanish, compared to European Spanish which is more difficult, many prefer to learn Mexican Spanish, even US. Americans. It is de facto the language used for the dubbing of films and series in Latin America. Similar case to Brazilian Portuguese, which is easier to learn compared to European Portuguese.

This guy also over enunciates every word (maybe on purpose). Does Isidor speak like this to his friends in real life? I doubt it but I could be wrong. He sounds like he's dubbing a TV show for children. Of course it's clear. Get an Italian or Brazilian voice actor on here and it'll be the same thing. Clear as crystal. Accent matters but the speaker matters just as much.

@@LucasMartin-im5ub As a Mexican, I can tell you that Isidor is not _"over-enunciating every word"_ as you said, he is just speaking in a casual manner while using what is known as the _"standard Mexican accent"._ In Mexico, we have many different accents that vary by region (especially in coastal and rural areas), but the _standard Mexican accent_ is the one that Isidor is using, and one of the characteristics of that accent is clear pronunciation. Although something I can confirm is that at very specific times in his speech, he purposely slow it down to give Paola and Gustavo enough time to think for an answer. Contexts that could serve as an example of that is when a Mexican is trying to explain a subject or telling a riddle to someone dear, a friend or a student. Aside from that, Isidor probably uses more slang and abbreviations when he gets more comfortable with friends, but the _accent_ remains similar to what you hear in this video.
@LucasMartin-im5ub

@@xolotlmexihcah4671 It's not just his neutral accent, but his slower speech and articulation. I'm referring to his speech throughout the video, not just when he slows down even more (like telling a riddle to a student, as you put it). He wants to be understood and, since he's a Spanish teacher for foreigners, he's gotten very good at it. This is excellent for language learners but is an unfair advantage when comparing intelligibility between Spanish and other languages. I also watched the Portuguese and Italian video on this channel. Gustavo speaks slowly but Isidro is superior at articulation. Gustavo's caipira accent could possibly be easier or more difficult to understand for some than Standard Brazilian but, again, it's the articulation that's key. The Brazilian girl on Languages of Earth articulates very well (it's not technically standard Brazilian either but I'm only alluding to her exceptional clarity). Same with the Italian video on Ecolinguist. Linda was the Italian and she doesn't articulate on the level of Isidro either. She speaks more naturally/relaxed. Davide on Podcast Italiano would be a great equivalent for Isidro as far as understandability is concerned. He speaks at a more natural, fast pace, but his articulation is excellent, so he can easily be understood by beginners. Huggo from innerFrench is another good example of someone making it extremely easy to be understood. The speaker's ability to articulate words plays a big role in these language comparisons/games. I'm merely offering an observation that I've noticed and thought was worth pointing out to others who might be interested. Excuse the long comment.

@@Sorellalunamistica actualy we have only 15% of words from slavic influence so in the big picture is not alot. We also have our own words of dacian origine and other languages but thouse mixed words are normal in any languages. In Romanian language we have old elements from Latin that in the other Latin languages no longer exist so this is also a factor that makes my native language to sound diffrent and has the most difficult and complicated grammer among the other latin languages. I am Romanian but evan as a native speaker I have to say that sometimes grammer is a pain in the backside.😂 All latin languages are of latin origine but at the same time also hibrid languages because each has developed in a unique way.

Understanding french can be pretty hard for spanish speakers when compared to other latin-based languages. The grammar is similar to some extent, but the words and the pronunciation are completely different, so there's no way you could have a conversation unless you've studied at least a bit of the language. I can speak a little french and I can understand most of the message when watching stuff like news or a dub for a kids movie, but in an informal conversation I could probably understand like 10% of what the other person is saying lol.

I said I could talk to him. The others thought I was an idiot when they asked if I spoke a language from Mozambique and I said no but I spoke Spanish. And Brazilian Portuguese is a lot lot easier for us than European Portuguese which is a nightmare and frustrating. In Brazilian Portuguese for a Mexican once you understand the sounds for “di”, “de”, “gi”, “ge”, “rr”, the “r” at the beginning of the words and the “e”, “o” at the end, it turns out to be about 90% intelligible. I've been saying this for 10 years now, Italian and Mexico City/Edo Mex- Mexican Spanish are pretty much identical for some wierd reason. Even our Music is so similar. I have 2 theories. #1. Catholic Church influence. Mexico did not heavly begin to learn Spanish until the early 1900s. Go back to census records and 80% of Mexicans were not Spanish Speakers. Many of the non-native speakers were either Spanish, French or Italian or Latin Speakers. Many of the Nahuatl that converted to Catholicsm got to learn Latin. Since the only books printed were in Latin , many bi-lingual mexicans hyrbided a lot of Church Latin into their Spanish (and Nahautl). If Mexicans were only learning Spanish in the 1600s-1800s they would have sounded like Cubans and Puerto Ricans, Mexicans don't sound like them at all. Go watch TV comedies from SPAIN , they sound like Puerto Ricans ' Dale, hijo de cone,se lo dio por el c lo '. Go watch TV comedies from Italy and Greece, they sound like Mexican Spanish speakers. #2. There were a lot of Italian immigrants. We think that only Spain came to Mexico from 1600s-1900s but forget that the FRENCH were very powerful in Mexico in the 1800s,. Many French people migrated into Mexico, the reason why their influence isn't noticed in MX is because in the Revolution of 1910, many of them were kicked out of Mexico by Spanish-Mexicans. However in addition in the early 1900s had a lot of Italian immigration. THE US , BRAZIL and MEXICO recieved a lot of ITALIAN immigrants. These Italian immigrants influenced Mexican Spanish , there are a lot of ITALIAN WORDS in Mexican Spanish that European Spaniards don't use. These words are traced back to the early 1900s. Our Media also has a lot of third generation Mexicans of Italian descent. The lead singer of ZOE is of Italian descent. How many Mexicans do you know that have Italian names?

French is the most "German" of all these languages. I'm not kidding. For example the fact that the words do not end in -a or -o but mostly with a consonant or -e which is not pronounced. The u is pronounced like the German ü, e similar to ö. In French you have to say the personal pronouns like je, tu, il... in every other roman language you don't. Then a lot of vocabulary changed like danser like tanzen/dance, not ballare/bailar or soupe or blanc.... Even the word "France" comes from Franks, the ancient Germanic people

For me, Portugese is easy, but not Italian. Maybe it was the form of Italian in the part of Italy, they said there it was close to pure Latin; all I know is the names for most everything I knew--was wrong. El Pero--the dog--Il Cane, El tunel--the tunnel was Il Galaria, and on and on and on. The number 5, cinco, was "chinquay"; some was easy, el pollo was Il pollo, but the ll was not a y, it was the l sound from English. But too many changes for me.

I can speak Spanish. I understand a lot, almost everything, and as an Italian I have the feeling that the Mexican accent is easier to grasp than the European, because the overall pronounciation is very similar to Italian. Spaniard use sounds that do not exist in Italian (above all, the "c" before "i" and "e", the "z" and the "ç", which are pronounced like the weak and strong "th" in English): that could be the cause of the higher difficulty. Those sounds are completely absent in the American Spanish, which sounds more understandable. And the Mexican in particular is the easiest of the American Spanish.
