Thank you for this... it has given me the confidence to strip down the carbs on my 1967 Midget and I have now removed them. Both float bowls seem a little loose where they attach to the main body which will need tightening also even though both float bowls have fuel in them I'm not sure that fuel is actually flowing out of them into the main body. I'm presuming that after standing for a few years that perhaps the feeds from the bowls to the carbs are blocked or the main jets are blocked. The car does not seem to get fuel.

Oh very good 👍. I normally work in sequence. Check fuel pump is pumping to the carbs, then remove floats , check first float gap to spec and seals when up then second float gap to spec and seals when up. Next clean out float chambers and blow with airline through hole in bottom to clean out jet pipes into main body. Check jet moves up and down smoothly . You should be good to go then

@@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 Thank you so much for your reply. I greatly appreciate your help. I actually started by removing the tank as no fuel was coming from the tank to the pump due to a blocked in-tank fuel filter but have sorted that issue out now and fuel is pumping to the carbs. I have semi-disassembled both carbs and blown air through the feed pipes from the float chamber to the main jets, that's all good now. Tightened the float bowls to the main body however, what I have noticed, is that on both carbs, the choke mechanisms are jammed. When you apply/turn the choke levers they do not lower. It looks like both are a little bent and will not lower like they should do when turning the choke levers. I don't want to break anything by trying to bend things lol. Is the choke critical or can I just leave them in other words will the carb still work if there is no choke mechanism? I haven't removed the main jets but they are free of any blockages and air does flow through them both...just that the chokes are jammed. Who needs a choke in Africa! lol

Chokes just help cold starting. Just be ready to crank it more to get it started and if it gets cold you might struggle

@@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 Thank you. Good news!.. fixed the choke mechanisms and both carbs are now reassembled and reinstalled and the car is and BOOM !..starting easily and running quite well...will do a tune-up and a service.. I just need to fill the plunger reservoirs with oil and will find out which oil to use soonest. I replaced the accelerator cable which was a bit dodgy and took the car for a very short drive around the block. It's the first time it has been driven in 16 years! I can't thank you enough for your help. Cheers Alan.

You need the heat shield fitting so you have a place for the throttle return springs.

Very true. As the carbs get built onto the car it will most likely get refitted for its primary purpose of keeping heat from the exhaust reflected away from the carbs. It will foul on the new inlet manifold so there's going to be some modification needed. Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated and glad your enjoying the channel

How are the bushings on the throttle shafts? I know that worn bushes can lead to irregular running and difficulties balancing the carbs.

good question..... theyre OK but not brilliant. i expect ill have to rebush them but first stage is to get it finished and built. Im expecting a huge list of minor improvements from there on :-)

Hi, I am just wondering what made you decide to stick with the HS2 carbs rather than other options? After reading the Vizard book I decided to go with HS4 and my engine is only overbored to 1301 and I see you are 1330 and still acheived a good hp increase on the rolling road test with standard carbs albeit with different jets. I might become a regular with questions as I'm hoping to start occasional racing next year, you have been helpful already on the FB hill climb and sprint group thank you.

My category group 2 in the MGCC sprint series stipulates standard carbs. Anything you want to enter it’s a big must to read the technical regs first of what you can and cannot do for the class you want to enter. To be competitive you need to build the car somewhere close to the limit of allowable improvements as that’s what your competing against

First thing he said is, I have to keep the hs2 carburetors for the race class...

How do you separate the float bowl chamber from the carburetor body?
@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349
@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 2 жыл бұрын
There’s one bolt on the opposite side of the body to the float that holds it on . If you look at some online exploded pictures you’ll see it more clearly.
