MG has had a stratospheric rise in popularity over the past few years. It has so far shunned launching a range of sporty cars or a two-seater roadster in a throwback to its earlier heydays, but instead focussed on launching a range of efficient electric cars that focus on value for money.
Many EVs charge a premium for coming with a decent electric driving range, but not the MG5. When it launched in 2020 it became the UK's only pure-electric estate car and had a decent 200-odd-mile range, and it quickly attracted leagues of buyers. The MG5 was never what you'd call stylish though, or an EV that wooed buyers with a fancy, cosseting interior.
That could change with this newly updated version. It now boasts a longer range, more equipment and a smarter design inside and out. But has MG messed up the recipe?
