A couple things I forgot to mention in the video: if you do make a palette out of these paints, be prepared for them to crack within pans! This is normal for gouache from what I've heard, but it does happen with the Arteza ones. The paints themselves also took about 4-5 days to completely dry. And I thought I was out of watercolor paper (found some after editing this video :-)) so I painted an old raccoon sketch I had from about 6 months ago!!
I am by no means experienced with other gouache brands, so take that into consideration with this!! I really love these paints but I have only worked with crappy Reeves gouache previously so idk what I'm doing

Your watercolour pieces are so calming, and just amazing quality videos in general! My favourite video is the Posca Pokemon doodle page and that’s how I found you hah. Anyway, keep up with the videos! Love them! 💕

Once I bought reeves gouache thinking I could use it to mix into my W&N designer gouache to mix more volume for earthy / background colors and it was completely horrible, it turned into some weird plasticy-dirt-clay substance and I had to just get rid of it all.. lesson learned haha

I like to get some professional zinc and titanium white gouache to use with my arteza, and that helps with the chalkiness. Even a big tube of black. I use Mgraham for that bit, but that's just me 😅 I loved your pink Raccoon. The little bandit turned out really well considering your lacking in experience and all.

@Anna Moore Yeah I know zinc is for mixing but since I was gonna take the suggestion and buy the large tube I was wondering if I shouldn't just buy the titanium so I'd have a pure white that I could also use to mix instead if a big tube solely for mixing. 😊

Btw. Would you recommend filling it into a palette? I wanna get into gouache a bit more and this seems a lot more handy than the tubes but I heard that using this gouache like that has some downsides. Did you notice any? (also : great video!)
@tirameowsu
@tirameowsu 4 жыл бұрын
there's pros and cons of putting this gouache into a palette! its very convenient in doing so, which is definitely a plus. however, it takes a bit to reactivate (as does most gouache from what I've seen), and it does crack a good amount, so if you're going to fill a palette with it, I'd recommend one that uses pans instead of wells to minimize chips moving around.

@@tirameowsu I was planing on getting one of the generic tin ones with pans off of Amazon, like the one you used in the video, I'm usualy working at home so getting water to activate the paint isn't too much of an issue, does rewetting the paint affect the opacity in any way? (sorry for asking so many questions)

rewetting the paint doesn't affect the opacity as long as you put in the work and rewet it a generous amount!! and no worries, I am happy to answer any questions I can 💖

Same here, I really recommend not filling up a palette. In the end I just cut my loss and stopped using my gouache palette completely, and switched to painting straight from the tubes only. The paint re-wets horribly: it takes forever and is just so lumpy even after stirring and scraping for quite a while.

Sp.Ace.Child - I added glycerin; works well and is cheaper (use food grade from a health food store or pharmacy-it's used for cake decorating too but is marked up for that purpose😕). I used it on my HIMI gouache set and let them dry out completely. They did crack but didn't crumble and stayed in the pans (well, cups in their case), and rewet easily. ☺
