Welcome to the Miami Boat Ramps channel. We are dedicated to bringing you all the craziness that goes on at the boat ramps in South Florida! Sit back and enjoy the show!
Ramps we currently cover: 79st (La 79!) / Black Point Marina / Haulover
We are working on adding 2 more ramps to the roster. Stay tuned!
Don't forget to hit the like button, subscribe and leave us a comment. If you don't, we're coming to steal your drain plug!

Disclaimer : We receive a ton of emails and messages from people telling us we filmed them at the ramp this past weekend and they want to know when the video will air. This is not a question we can typically answer. We film from three or more ramps every week and have a massive back log of content and sometime it could be weeks or months after an event occurs before we air the video. We put stuff out as fast as we can but we only air three videos a week and in a typical weekend get 6-10 episodes worth of content meaning we get content faster then we can air it. Thanks for watching and just be sure to keep watching looking for your content it will air but probably not immediately after it happens!

That little station wagon on the far left at the end is similar to the AWD Subaru Outback that I use to pull my boats. Of course my boats are well within the towing capacity of it, but I've never had a problem at the boat ramp with my Outback!

I have a Subaru outback that I pull a 16 ft Boston Whaler super sport with in Florida and it does not hesitate to go up any ramp i have used. The guy in the video should have a 2500 series 4X4 with aggressive tires, and he would have no problem at all ever.

I watched your Googan video the other day, in my opinion these are googans as well. They have a large boat and an inadequate tow vehicle. Probably thinking they saved some money not getting the 4x4. Max tow capacity for a 4Runner is 5k that is on flat surface, the vehicle only weighs 4700lbs and they probably got the 4cly for fuel economy. GOOGANS!

@@mikediamond353 Yea, there's just so much that can happen while a boat sits that not doing a quick start before heading out is dumb. Most of the time it'll be a waste of 15 seconds, but if it saves a ruined trip it'll be well worth it. Most of my outings are 2-5 days on the water with other people, not verifying that the boat will start is dumb and wrong to do to those relying on you.

@@fastwin493 That was a whole lotta typing, and excessive use of caps and various dumb punctuation, just to exclaim your ignorance. It takes a lot more than a few seconds to burn an impeller. I've replaced many impellers that were repeatedly run without water for several seconds at a time, mine included, and they showed no damage. The only one I've seen that was clearly damaged was run dry for several minutes, he didn't know that the inlet valve was closed and ran it 'till the engine temperature alarm went off.

You should only pull in reverse as a last option. The teeth on the ring and pinion in the axles are not designed for heavy loads in that direction. The geometry tries to push them apart. With enough load they will start to shear off. Suspension geometry is also weaker in reverse, allowing more axle creep that can tear u-joints in half. You also get a great view of your tow hook breaking and flying through your windshield, into your face. Reverse tow as a last resort. Light duty work only.
@Thepriest39
@Thepriest39 Жыл бұрын
I totally disagree with the ring and pinion gears not being designed to tow in reverse. I have rebuilt my Dana 70 differential installing an ARB air locker with a new ring and pinion gear. The design of the gears are not made for a directional load. Putting a load on the gears in either direction makes no difference.
@volvo09
@volvo09 Жыл бұрын
That was not a very heavy tow anyways, you aren't going to damage doing that. I wouldn't be doing reverse burnouts, or trying so hard where you get wheel spin and wheel hop.

I also disagree... the torque curve of HD trucks in reverse is *generally* of a higher (lower gearing) ratio than any forward gear. I've always done heavy pulls in reverse with any of my 1T's or older FJ4O's with zero damage, but I also take care of my maintenance.

Posted this as a comment to another comment, but a general question. I live and grew up driving in the snow and ice. I suspect our 4 season tires have better traction as I’ve never seen this issue at a ramp. A question I have, however, is one thing we were taught is if you are spinning on ice and stuck, try letting some air out of the tires. It increases the footprint of the tire. I’ve never seen anyone do that in these videos. Any thoughts on if this would be a good technique?

Pulling in reverse is a good way to break a transmission or other drive line parts. Vehicles are designed to tow going in the forward direction, and great care should be taken when backing a loaded trailer up a hill.

No, first gear is almost always lower than reverse, reverse ratio is typically somewhere between first and second gear. Also, reverse gear is often weaker and the axle gears are typically easier to break in reverse.

I've never heard of that being done and never seen evidence of it. In the case of this ramp the slipperiness mostly happens at the weed line and it probably collects pretty quickly so they'd have to clean pretty often for it to really help.

Yep. I usually put it in 4wd, but certainly don’t need it. I suspect the tires. Almost everyone as 4 season tires. One thing I’ve also seen done when on ice is lowering the PSI to increase tire surface area. Seems like something I would try here, but I haven’t ever seen them do it. In the end, living in Idaho, I almost never see a vehicle towing that doesn’t have 4wd.
