Why is a sixty-two-year-old Michael Beschloss making the rounds trying to sell his book, “Presidents of War”, because he cannot possibly sell any of them looking like a twenty-one-year-old with dyed hair, or can he? He can sure try…which is what he is currently trying to do…” with his new and improved packaging self” …

Why do you care? I wish that Beschloss got more into the specifics as to why the War of 1812 was a defeat, how he could approve of the aims of the Mexican War but not approve of the means of achieving them. If he would have told us how we could have attained the lands out west without war then this interview would have been much more informative. Nobody likes Woodrow Wilson anymore. He was considered a great President until fairly recently. He enacted the Federal Reserve, signed anti-trust legislation, acted to increase the rights of workers, made it easier for farmers to get federal loans and he opposed our colonization of Puerto Ricans and the Phillipines. The fact that Wilson failed to get the U.S to join The League of Nations is not his fault. He's simply reaching for more reasons to show why he wasn't in his opinion and in the opinion of more politically correct thinkers a great president. Yes, Wilson was a racist. So was Lincoln. Lincoln at one point during the war tried to convince Frederick Douglass and other abolitionist leaders that both America and African-Americans would be better off if they left the country and resettled in Liberia. Wilson took steps to curtail civil liberties during the Great War. Lincoln took even more severe steps during the Civil War. Lincoln suspended the right of habeas corpus which means that someone could be locked up indefinitely without charge if they were deemed a threat to the war effort. Wilson was no saint but he shouldn't be demonized. There's really no new ground covered by this book save for the one nugget he gives us about LBJ nixing efforts of the U.S. Army to have tactical nuclear weapons available to those in charge of the war in Vietnam.
