Years ago, I worked at a truck stop near Leighton, AL, home of Percy Sledge. He would come in every now and then. One night he was standing in line at the deli, and Bolton's version of this song came on the radio. Percy asked a truck driver in line how he liked the song. The truck driver said he liked it alright. Percy said, "I like it too, but I do like the original better. By the way, I'm Percy Sledge." The truck driver apparently didn't believe him, because he was laughing when he came to the register and said "That guy back there said he was Percy Sledge!". The cashier casually looked back toward the deli and said "Yep, that's Percy." Should've seen the look on the guy's face!🤣🤣🤣

Awww, great reaction!!! He gets a lot of crap from ppl, but you can't deny the talent this guy has!!! Another powerful song of his is "When I'm Back On My Feet Again"

Always loved this song ( the original and this version). There is a movie i like that used the song and the name of it "When a Man Loves a Woman", 1994 . It's with Meg Ryan and Andy garcia, that she's an alcoholic.

No question about it! And with a level of soul that remains unmatched. No straining. No theatrics and 'big' singing. Just simple, poignant...yet so deep. It's too good of an original to keep getting overshadowed by Michael Bolton's mediocre (comparatively) version. The lyrics are already so powerful that it doesn't need all the extra stuff he uses, which ultimately actually ends up taking away from the song's authenticity.

Michael Bolton always brings that soul & raspy voice every time he sings...This is "live" and it is one of the best covers & performances ever of this song and Percy Sledge would be so proud of him too!!!

I think Home Free modeled their cover more after the Michael Bolton cover than the Percy Sledge original. The Home Free version has one of Austin's best performances.
