Part 1: • Michael Jai White on T...
--------
Hollywood action star Michael Jai White weighed in on the famous beef between fellow martial artists Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme. According to an old story, Van Damme allegedly called out Seagal to a real fight after the latter insulted him at a house party hosted by Sylvester Stallone. Seagal reportedly backed down. It was pointed out that Van Damme was trained in martial arts before he even entered Hollywood, and was not afraid to spar with other professionals. Seagal, on the other hand, was more of a performer and not known to have considerable fighting prowess. White spoke highly of Van Damme's bravery and kindness, endorsing his fight credentials. He reasoned that Van Damme would most likely win if a real fight were to happen between the two icons.

He sees him like an actor and not a fighter wich is wrong because he is capable but he knows he is better than Steven. Skill of aikido can't be compared with shotokan karate or tae kwon do or some level of kickboxing Van Damme trainned and Van Damme is also superior in power. People need to understand no matter what they think about MJW he practices martial arts and knows who can do it and who can't. I can also say Steven is allways trying to put the skill of other martial artists down and that shows weakness and lack of confidence.

He doesn't have to be, as MJW states, gotta give respect to those that actually fight, it doesn't really matter if they are the best, there's too many people to be the "best" so who cares about being the best. I don't even think bruce lee was the best, i think that is just who people knew of which was the best when there might of been people none of us knew who was better than bruce lee.

I'm not sure how much truth there is to it, but I had heard that Van-Damme was originally a gymnast but had taken a year or two of Taekwondo to learn some of the basics in order to help break him in to Hollywood. Like I stated. I don't know how much truth there is to that. It was just something I had been told by a friend a very long time ago.

As a master of a$$ whooping for many decades, I can safely say that MJW is all mouth and would quickly learn how a true warrior finishes fights when his vertebrae would become severed after his first missed punch. Trust me, whatever Hollywood bromance these guys have won't save their lives when they encounter the real deal.

@@michaelmyers3709Really? He has a black belt in Aikido for sure, but I doubt he has black belts in other things - he’s been out of shape for almost all of his career - even in his early movies, he lean but not muscular at all; you learn pretty quickly in any martial art (combat sport if you like), with regular resistance sparring, that you need to be strong enough, and have cardio enough, to be effective enough to compete and progress in that environment. Seagal has never looked like he has either - maybe he had slight cardio in his early days, but even then that develops muscle tone. So if he does have 3 other black belts - he’s legit as legit can be in aikido, but I’d go as far to say that’s a counter-productive art as far as fighting goes (as it gives a false sense of security at best, and a terrible idea of how fights go to the point of making you more venerable than if you are if untrained, at worst), so I’d be shocked, if he’s ever trained a martial art that involves and sense of reality based training exercises. Aka full resistance sparring of some kind, and we all already know what arts have that built in, and those that don’t.)

Sylvester Stallone has confirmed the story about the party in his house. Sly said that Segal wanted none of Van Damme and left the party after being called out. Van Damme stated that Segal was being disrespectful and that he only challenged Segal to step outside, because he didn't want to ruin Stallone's furniture, saying that it was nice looking furniture. 😄

Van Damme competed in full contact karate with knocks outs and won a couple of trophies in Belgium. I don't know anything about the level of competition he faced, though. Steven Seagal on the other hand did some aikido which is basically yoga with somersaults. There's no record whatsoever of him ever being in a real fight.

Michael has downplayed JCVD's fighting ability in the past, glad he at least said he could take out Seagal. Nobody wanted to hear that back then, "Seagal will snap anyone's neck with AIKIDO!" MJW gives good interviews. Between this and interviews I’ve seen with him regarding “The Dark Knight”, he seems down to earth, no cringe, a straight enough shooter. He has a point. “Clint Eastwood doesn’t have to be a great shot. He just has to look like he is.” That goes for any movie, doesn’t it?

I heard this story years ago and I don’t know how much truth to it, but when Bruce Lee wanted to have Chuck Norris in his movie, Chuck agreed and stipulated that it wasn’t gonna be a cakewalk. Meaning, he’s not gonna get his three times fall down and die. Because at the time Chuck was an actual competitor in the arts, not in the movie business. of course Chuck took the fall at the end, but both of them worked out good for a great movie.
