1:28 has got to be the most thoughtful and dynamic walking bass line I've ever heard. Kudos to Manring

Awesome! This clip is very underrated. It's almost the best part of the entire DVD from Bass Day '98 if you ask me. It's an arrangement of Stanley Turrentine's "Sugar" btw.

Manring is amazing

I hear Manring says about his music: Why does it have to be so difficult? He's just telling one joke after another and having a good time! It's so funny! : )
@MrStrangeSensation13 жыл бұрын
@HandMane I've only seen him and Victor Wooten do that before. By bringing the string off the fretboard like that, he actually bends the string over the pickup instead of a fret. Essentially, he's using the pickup as a fret, thus extending his range and giving him one super high note where, hypothetically, a fret would be if the neck was longer.

Michael Manring is from another planet. If I had another two lifetimes to practice I couldn't do what this guy does.
@MrSilver2615 жыл бұрын
I disagree sorry about that and all but he doesn't float my bass boat at all
@lred13833 жыл бұрын
@@MrSilver261 You might not like what he puts out, but you have to admit: he's one of the best at what he does. The number of bass players that can be compared to him worldwide is in the single digits

@MrMeddled Here man, you're very well read, insightful and clearly know what you're talking about. It is a FACT that the bass cannot be played in any way other then a supporting role, I mean come on who gives a damn about people's taste and what they enjoy? It's what we think that's right! It isn't possible that his clear enjoyment is coming across as smugness to the uneducated, that's not possible at all. Anyway, enough with the sarcasm. Irregardless of your age, you are clearly a child. Smile.

@UhMysteryGuest Uh, bass IS hard. We don't all just sit around and play root notes with an 8th note pattern. If you think bass is easy, pick up a bass and try and play YYZ right off the bat, anything by Jaco, or anything by Primus. Guarantee you'll look at the bass differently after that.
@MrSulfurMustard12 жыл бұрын
Practice, play and rehearse for hours, days, weeks...after that much time I asure you will have found the 'best' wrist position, at least for you. The goal really is for you to find a position that enables you to play for hours without getting yourself harmed.
