I saw Michael race once at Melbourne. We were sitting 150m from the corner, and every driver, besides Michael was downshifting and braking. Michael pulled another gear and braked at 50. It was absolutely insane to see the Faz belting past and going faster before braking. And he was dominant. He could have braked at the same points as every other driver, but he was driving exactly the same, lap in, lap out, flat knacker and braking at 50m. I had an amazing experience at the drivers parade where I was near the track and held up 5 fingers and pointed at Michael, as, going into the season he was 4 times world champion, I was so confident in him winning I held up my 5 fingers. Michael god damn saw me, pointed at me, thumbs up and nodded at me. I was absolutely blown away. I remember watching the race he took the 5th title on and it was a really moving experience for me, that such a great, dominant man saw me, understood what I meant, and acknowledged it, and did what I had, and a lot of other people, had tipped him to do, and won that years title. Keep Fighting, Michael.

@@omarspilj5374 I've been researching michael's riding style. He didn't take his foot completely off the accelerator pedal. Another driver who took corners at high speed was ayrton senna. He would pump the accelerator pedal mid-corner to get the turbo to fill up, as in those days, the turbo had a delay.

I think it was Prost who said Senna was dangerous because he took unnecessary risks safe in the knowledge that God would look after him. Schumacher was something else. As Braun said, he would hold normal conversations during the race asking about other drivers etc as if he wasn't driving a F1 car on the edge. He was doing it mostly subconsciously leaving his mind free to think about other things. Just incredible really.

And for good reason. Senna proved why he's a legend several times. But, IMHO, people really sleep on Schumacher...They fail to realize that Schumacher has dominated in a Senna-esque manner several times. He'd get out on track, and, like a robot programmed to repeat 2+2=5 over and over again, would clip off perfect laps for 20-30 laps at a time...Which was no small feat in the un-driveable monsters we called F1 CARS of schumi's day.

If you really want to assess Schumachers natural given talent, you just have to look at his last 3 years in Mercedes. Understanding the fact, how hard it is to end a career with 36 years of age on top of a Champions League level, being retired, having a difficult motorcycle injury and then come back into Formula 1 years later (older than 40!! imagine that) with changed rules and EXTREMLY limited opportunities of testing the new cars and it's tires, that changed so much during the years.... ... and still being able to reach the same level as Nico Rosberg in the last of these 3 seasons (who a few years later defeated Lewis Hamilton, who is one of his generation!) for me was just mindblowing!! Those who really watched the 2012 season, know what I mean and those who remember the Nigel Mansell's "comeback" with over 40 years old (also a great driver!...also in the Indicar Series!) know even more how to evaluate the 2012 season. Imagine Schumacher being 25 oder 30.... and even refueling being allowed again...

I remember being so happy when Schumacher went to Ferrari. He was always my favourite driver and Ferrari my favourite manufacturer. I remember being bitterly disappointed when he broke his leg and was out of contention, but that feeling when he finally won the driver's championship at Ferrari was unbelievable. I watched him win a lot more (in the middle of the night here) and never got sick of it. When he retired, I stopped watching F1 completely. The awe and wonder had gone. 1:14 I think Johnny is a little bit mistaken talking about Senna's throttle control. In the turbo era, Senna was the only driver to perfect the way to keep the turbo spun up, which was necessary to reduce turbo lag. It's a little be silly to compare that throttle control using a turbo to a normally aspirated engine.

But Senna does that with naturally aspirated road cars as well. See Senna's footwork in the NSX in Suzuka. But to be honest, I'm not sure if there is any correlation between the 2, because F1 cars and road cars are totally different in terms of power and grip.
@BollocksUtwat
@BollocksUtwat 9 жыл бұрын
12x12surface They really aren't that different. The limit of grip is the limit of grip. When you're at the limit it makes little difference how powerful the car is or where it derives its grip from. All cars are basically just 4 rubber contact patches touching pavement.

@surewin1773
@surewin1773 9 жыл бұрын
It seems like with his driving style he's never fully off throttle, even during heavy braking at corner entry. Being on the throttle a little bit during heavy braking minimizes the weight transfer to the front wheels, which then minimizes understeer. This way he can brake later and carry more speed into the corner. Here is a more detailed description of Schumacher's driving style. Pretty amazing. teamslow.aitchison.org/viewtopic.php?t=4807&highlight=schumacher
@Willie_Pete_Was_Here

In the telemetry example, no braking was needed for that corner, so to slow down, all the drivers had to do was lift. He kept on the power through the the corner, rather than the usual coast to the apex and then accelerate after the apex.

surewin Wow, good to know. And I wish I could read the links you posted, but I can't get them to open :/. Anyways, this is actually very common in oval racing. A lot of the fastest guys in NASCAR, Jeff Gordon in particular, are known to have mastered this form of "trail braking" over the years. It's incredibly difficult to consistently get right, but it is very rewarding on the high speed sweepers.

All one has to do is look at his Bennaton or Ferrari. They were both inferior cars. Ferrari had not won in years, until Shuey came. Also if you look at his teammates, he usually out qualifies them by a full second sometime. It's usually Shuey poll, and his teammate 4th or 5th. Later on the Ferrari got very quick, but that was also his doing, with his input on the car.Even his comeback he was qualifying fast.

Michael Schumacher still better than Hamilton. Because why? let Hamilton drive shitty car and develop that weak team like Michael did with Benneton, Ferrari and even Mercedes when they are far behind top competition. Until it doesn't happen then i will still said Hamilton is still Rookie compared to Legend Schumacher himself. Even Toto and Ex Mercedes engineer himself "Ross Brawn" said it was Michael who helps Mercedes develop the car better and become best team because he know the feeling of car better than anyone else, he is engineer too who know what is wrong with the car in engineer language which is far important for car development, in his era almost no driver have mechanics background like Michael. Don't forget, Hamilton win is in part of Michael too. This is why i never agree with those people who said Hamilton is the greatest of all. Records means to be broken but Michael Schumacher will forever remain as the greatest of all time ! #keepfightingmichael

Thing that I absolutely hate the most is that due to the unfortunate circumstances of Senna's accident, we were almost robbed of what would have been an incredible era for Formula One with Senna and Schumacher going head-to-head for probably at least the next five years. It would have really improved in era where Schumacher really had nobody to equal him.

Well i race for 12 years, i do retro formula 1 driving job as well. Senna was the better driver as reca/tyre driver, Shumacher always works in test, he always dependet on the car there is no place for comparing this two because in the end both are heroes from different era's. This is the sama as comparing Fagio and Nikki Lauda

F1 when Michael Schumacher still racing in Benetton and Ferrari : 70 laps, less reliable engine, no DRS, no ERS, car less stable than today F1 car, he even racing with manual clutch with H gear shift paterns, race in full wet conditions, has very tight competition because there are 3 team with 6 drivers fighting for the titles but still Michael able to get 7x WDC despite of being unlucky sometimes, causing him lose 3 WDC titles, also he didn't get best car all the times and even he got 2x WDC with midfield car like Benneton. All of those reasons is why Michael is the GOAT of F1, not fraud fake 7x WDC who are whinning spoiled arrogant kid who are lucky too aka Hamilton and who need fastest car and best team to win, need team order to win for many times (i can't even count how many times Bottas got team order to let Hamilton win), Hamilton need maFIA helps to win and even he still lose WDC just like in 2021 which is really pathetic. Hamilton is not legend, he is overrated fraud british driver. Fake championship !

Very well said. Michael Schumacher in F1 is like Rossi in MotoGP, both of them not only the best driver on their own sport but also Michael is the icon of F1, Rossi too.
@Sem1050
@Sem1050 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely no, Rossi was really smart and surely he has been an icon of motogp, but he wasn't the best from a technical point of view and pure speed. Ever heard of Marquez, Stoner, Pedrosa and Lorenzo? At least two of these guys (for me Marquez and Stoner) have been much better than the Italian from those points of view.
@Sem1050
@Sem1050 Жыл бұрын
Rossi's riding style was very classic and academic, to perform he needed to have a perfectly balanced set up, he himself had to adapt to the riding style of these guys to get back to the top after two unsuccessful years in Ducati. You can see this even just by comparing a few photos showing VR on a motorbike before and after 2011-2012

@supacubano10 It was a type of launch control not TC. Benetton admitted the software had never been deleted from the ECU because it was an integrated part of the engines mapping. The only way to disable it was to not fit the sensor suit required for to feedback to the ECU. An active sensor suit was never found on the car over race weekends hence the FIA dropped the complaint

In the 50's the power density was way lower than today, the cars everything was different. Today such a performance as Fangio had is not possible anymore. Winning every second race for years. It is simply not comparable.

@hunt2727 (continuing) It's strange how Schumacher struggled in Donington while even Barrichello with his poor Jordan overtook him and was faster than him on the wet. Michael was extremely quick indeed, but he was only quick when he had conditions that favored him (a car suited for him, tires, managers telling him what to do and when to stop). Senna was fast in any conditions.

This video was made long time ago , it gives a clear understanding of why Schumacher has so many problems with F1 2010 cars , his driving style in early 90's was perfect for F1 of the past , the telemetry at 3:45 gives us the ultimate key , steering corrections in the corner was a + back then , it's ironic to think that what made him ahead of others , is now an handicap with more technologies and electronic for a driving style... Herbert driving style was more adapted for today's cars

"very good feel of the limit" that WAS his most important skill that made him 7 times champion. But (i think) he lost it during his accident in 2009. That injury was more serious. He told it was just a normal "training slip" but he hurt his neck and his wrist. The doctor told that he damaged his ganglions too, and (i think) it that was responsible for his most importatn skill, and he simply lost it. He now feels the limit just like the other drivers

@waterfeelsgood Agree because the car of Mercedes was developed using datas of last year's so many things are developed for Button's driving style, which are at the opposite of Schumacher's prefered settings. I mean i don't say a new thing if i say in F1 in many situations we have to project a brand new car if we want to change something. So i wait the next season already, too.

The Feedback a driver gives to the engineers is important. That is what makes Schumacher important, he can communicate with the engineers. Räikkönen for example is knowing nothing about that.

It is a shame Senna lost his life in that terrible accident in 94. We were robbed of what would have been some epic battles between himself and Schumi. The only person in my humble opinion that was consistently giving Micheal a run for his money was Mika Hakkinen.
