Free the Roads is not only Michael White’s best work, but the best use of the BWBA format in the entire era. The way the whole episode ties together with the theming of “Bulgy thinks of himself as a hero” is immaculately constructed; the fantasy sequence not only tells us things we didn’t know previously about Bulgy as a character, but also foreshadows what his ultimate plan will be (poisoning the water supply, a common threat in superhero stories). I don’t think it would be as strong an episode without the fantasy elements and that is the ONLY episode in this era I can say that about.

Understandably, not many people like Big World Big Adventures, but one thing that we can't deny is the fact that a Thomas fan-user gets to write for the official show and is considered by many as the only good saving grace of a mediocre era where everything is all too flashy instead of being a calm and realistic world as of now. Michael (WhitehouseFilms) has written some incredible episodes, some favorites of mine include Hunt the Truck, An Engine of Many Colors, Free the Roads, Deep Trouble (which includes my favorite fantasy realistically), Heart of Gold, Great Little Railway Show and Royal Engine.

Michael was the best writer of the BWBA era.

Michael has definitely written some very good episodes even in a pretty terrible era. My favorite episode has to be Heart of Gold it really gives Toby some well needed justice after his character inconsistencies throughout the entirety of the CGI era

I actually see a few parallels between Michael White and Christian Whitehead, who worked on Sonic Mania. They both started with fan projects before working with people in charge of the series and eventually making fan favorite entries. Given what Whitehead is doing now, I hope these parallels will continue.

I think my favorite Michael White episode is ,,An engine with many colours". Not only because it is a episode where James isn't a selfish jerk. It is also a episode where did a good job with dream scenes.

Its rlly wholesome seeing micheal climb the ranks of being the one of the best writers in the show, its also wholesome to see how much he looks up to brenner and brenner just telling him to be himself. Honestly i wish we couldve gotten an episode where a character like say rebecca or nia doubting themselves and looking to henry or edward for advice like how andrew passed the tourch to micheal. Its also funny hearing micheal replicating of how he felt when he was told to write the royal engine, its honestly how i expect him to act lol.

I do agree. His railway modelling was really good and his written episodes in the BWBA Era were pretty good. I especially liked Hunt the Truck, Free the Roads, Heart of Gold and The Great Little Railway Show. Also Happy B-day to Michael White.

Well, I must say, I did not expect to know that Michael White and Andrew Brenner know each other since Pablo and that Andrew give Michael a job of writing episodes for the show and help him out despite leaving it as his mentor. Very good. I bet if Andrew stays on the show (if it continues) and work with Michael to write episodes together with his guidance, even getting it back to the original story telling format and his era, they would have made the show even grander than before with more returnee characters and other things. Michael White's experience shows that if fans want to pitch their ideas for a movie and TV show company, they have to be part of it since they wouldn't accept ideas from fans because of policy either way. Also, you forgot that George is going to appear in Free The Roads but was replaced with Max and Monty. Many happy returns to him.

Happy birthday to Michael! :D But I will say this history of how Michael White became part of the Thomas team, and I do appreciate the support that Andrew Brenner have to him throughout the years. I love Thomas and Friends a lot, I don’t watch much of All Engines Go, but I honestly would’ve liked to see more stories by both Andrew Brenner and Michael White. As for the autism community, I myself have a bit of autism and Thomas and Friends has always been a big part of my life, even now to this day :) Maybe even one day, I would like to write my own episodes in the future about Thomas and friends, but who knows :)

Thank you for a good memory with my father, he's still alive but it was a afternoon and my youtube account was connected to the tv and my dad click on it, and the first thing he saw was this video and he clicked on it and we ended up just watching the whole video and discussing and talking about it, so thank you for a good memory.

Happy Birthday Michael White and thank you for writing such wonderful episodes and a 75th anniversary special of Thomas & Friends. 🎂 My favorite episodes are Hunt The Truck, Heart of Gold, and The Great Little Railway Show. And The Royal Engine is the best and my favorite special alongside TGD, BMM, TAB, TLOTLT, and JBS.

I never know too much about Michael White since he worked on writing for the episodes of Thomas and friends but now I could absolutely respect him and absolutely liked the episodes that he worked on and I literally had a list of favorite episodes written from White himself. 1: Thomas and the Royal engine 2: Heart of gold and Free the roads 3: An engine of many colors 4: Out of site and deep trouble 5: The great little railway show. As for all engines go itself I'm really surprised that Michael White had wrote an episode during that time, along with some consultanting of an autistic character such as Bruno I have seen Nia's surprising surprise recently since it was the only season 1 AEG episode that I didn't watch and it was pretty decent and I think White did good these are a few occasions of some episodes being a guilty pleasure or somewhat enjoyable like Sandy's sandy shipment overall, Michael White is a pretty good writer during that time of BWBA and I have yet to see one of his KZfaq content.

For the Great Little Railway Show episode I secretly would've loved if Christopher Awdry had also been the person chosen to voice the Thin Clergyman for the episode. Now that would've been a big surprise for the fans for sure.

The BWBA-Era is definitely the worst era of the show. However, despite that, Michael made some really fantastic episodes!😄

Writing episodes for the actual show sounds like a fan’s dream. Michael White was really lucky. His work was (imo) one of the only good things about BWBA. Episodes like Hunt the Truck honestly feel too good to even be a part of the era, in spite of things like the bouncing, dream sequences, pacing, etc. Hearing about his insight when he was writing was also really interesting!

I for 1 hope that if All Engines Go does fail and they do decide to continue the Thomas & Friends series in CGI, I'd be more than happy to see Michael White helping out with more stories for the episodes. And I've got to say that I myself do have some memories of watching some of his content on KZfaq mostly about his model replica of the Ffarquhar branch line layout. Also sometime last year in 2022 I had actually stumbled upon some of his own Thomas & Friends audio stories and his Model Railway Adventures on SoundCloud and right away I thought to myself that those stories would be super perfect for new episodes in the Thomas & Friends CGI series. God, I really hope this video doesn't get the fans to scream out things like "OoOoOh... It's like a 5th grader being treated like an outcast by the other 5th or 6th graders at an elementary school without acknowledging their efforts. It's really sad, not only is it really disrespectful and childish of the fandom if you think about it. And to put it bluntly, not everything a writer does will always be made as something great or something bad either. Which is something the whole fandom should have taken a huge note on that long ago regardless of their knowledge of the franchise and what not, especially when it comes to their hatred towards Sharon Miller. Like yes, Sharon Miller's tenure as head writer wasn't good at all. But witch-hunting a writer does not make them look better. But in all other words. I do have a big respect for Michael White in terms of looking further into the psychology of James (which I still believe he is a vain type of narcissist than what a real narcissist would be; looking at you Eric Cartman and Warren the Worm), giving Edward a chance to get his back on Bill and Ben in a really cunning way, giving Toby an epic kick-ass story where he once again proves he's not just a stupid dated tram engine that should have been a shed, or even giving Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt a story where they go to England with problems being thrown in all the way. And by that "new crew" you mentioned earlier, I am pretty sure most of that "new crew" was rather more likely say some of the same crew that gave out Seasons 17-21 because I can tell some of the writers from those seasons stuck on like Davey Moore, Becky Overton, and a few others to name. I don't really agree with your defence of Heart of Gold. You're right that Toby shouldn't have been a badass for all of it but I don't think showing him as a sad wimp was the only alternative, because that way this episode only ends up reinforcing that side of him, and when he has his heroic moment it feels like it's supposed to be a grand moment because Toby is a wimp, not because he's not. In my opinion, showing Toby be annoyed but not depressed would've been enough.

Not many people will have realised this of course, but I had been working on my pitch for a CGI retro-revamp of the classic "Thomas & Friends" series. I'm hoping that it will become a commercial reality in close cooperation with Mattel and with the respect of the original creators' intentions in time for Thomas's 80th year. I have been keeping it almost to myself up until now because I was working on it in-between upholding my family's commitments and related musings, but that has given me time to actually flesh out my ideas so they come across in a meaningful way. I did this because of how Thomas & Friends, and trains in general, played a pivotal constant throughout my life, and continues to in reflection of what I understand of it now. It was indeed a very personal matter, but the result may pleasantly surprise you. Regards, Samuel Farris.

Just watch heart of gold and one of the international episodes and the difference is as clear as day

Whether it was his descriptive writing for Pablo or giving insight for Bruno, it made sense for Michael to be a consultant for autistic characters as he himself is autistic

22:40 for this whole scene in particular I would love if they had actually used that classic theme music from the Railway Series read along story audio books read aloud and narrated by Ted Robbins. Also because it was the 75th anniversary of the franchise, so why not?.
