Michael Jackson's short film for "Thriller" was the third of three short films produced for recordings from Thriller, which continues its reign as the biggest selling album of all time with worldwide sales in excess of 105 million as of June 1, 2016 and in December 2015 became the first ever album to be awarded triple diamond status (i.e.: sales in excess of 30 million) by the RIAA for US sales alone. The "Thriller" single reached No. 1 in four countries in 1984, topping the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart as well as charts in Spain, France and Belgium. The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Thriller the first album to feature seven Top 10 singles. The Recording Industry Association of America certified "Thriller" Gold and Platinum on December 4, 1989.
The groundbreaking short films for the Thriller album, starting with "Billie Jean," following up with "Beat It" and culminating with the epic, nearly 14-minute "Thriller," truly expanded the possibilities of "music video" as art form. "I wanted something that would glue you to the set, something you'd want to watch over and over," Michael wrote in his 1988 memoir Moonwalk. "I wanted to be a pioneer in this relatively new medium and make the best short music movies we could make."
In the short film's extended prologue, Michael's moonlit date with his girlfriend (played by model Ola Ray) is interrupted by his sudden transformation into a howling werewolf. While the "real" Michael and Ola, observing the scene in a movie theater, walk home from the their date, Michael teases her by singing the verses of "Thriller."

You can tell me to mind my business if you think this question is too forward, but did he have a romantic interaction with you afterwards? Because back then this was considered scary to most, I remember CBS wouldn’t air it before 9pm because of the content; therefore if the man who’s house you were over made you watch this and then tried to get laid while you were scared, that’s pretty sick.

I agree. Miss him so much. Ed Sheeran and Beyonce are not satisfying at all. MJ gave more than what was expected and blew peoples minds. Back around 2007 I was totally into all his pre-Thriller music. Since he died I got into his later stuff like Smooth Criminal and Thriller. He got better and better with age. And now, with 40 years gone, Thriller has become more and more outstanding compared to the low-quality Taylor Swift pop music of today.

Hey everyone! So, I'm this Swedish gal who grew up in the 75s, and let's talk about Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Gotta admit, when I was a kid, this song freaked me out. I remember watching the music video when I was like 5, and it gave me nightmares! Zombies, darkness, Michael turning into a werewolf... gave me the creeps big time. But here I am now, at 48, and I gotta say, I love "Thriller"! Crazy how things change, right? Now I totally get the brilliance behind this song and its video. It's a pop masterpiece that never gets old. The video is just epic. The moves, the special effects, the story... it's all so freaking awesome. And the song itself, it's a classic! Michael's voice, the beat, the lyrics... it's just so cool! It's nuts how my perception of this song has changed over time. From hiding behind the couch to cranking up the volume and dancing every time it comes on. I guess that's just part of growing up, huh? In a nutshell, "Thriller" will always be one of my faves, even though it scared the crap out of me as a kid. It's a timeless tune that always gets me groovin' and takes me back to those simpler times of the 80s. Michael Jackson will always be the king of pop!

Fun fact: My mom was an extra backup zombie in this scene: 8:59 although not even she remembers which one she was. She also said Jackson seemed like a cool guy. Which makes her doubt the allegations against him.

This song is one of the reasons MJ is irreplaceable. Sure there are lots of awesome artists out there, MJ is not only about music but a different level of entertainment. I've never enjoyed music videos as much as I do watching MJs. He's just one of a kind.

PS. George should have been credited literally and figuratively by Landis. 7:11 and more. Still, a good effort to try match George's genius, however, it does not even come close or "hold a candle" in this context. Unless, Landis threw in "dancing and choreography" and MJ. Which he did. Being 21, I just started discovering Michael a few days ago. I mean... I've been knowing him for as long as I can remeber, as long as I've been conscious, like everyone else, but I never took the time to really search on his career and discover his story and who MJ really is, I didn't even know about all the allegations that were against him, didn't know about his childhood, i didn't know about Jackson 5, didn't know he had children... Once, by chance, while scrolling on instagram reels, I came across three consecutive funny videos about him, as if it was a sign, and there I realized that I only knew his name as a brand "Michael Jackson" the sound of his biggest hits and his dance moves that everyone imitates, nothing more. There, I understood that I needed to search about this man. I went on you tube, and watched the first video, then the second, the third, the fourth, the fifth, and didn't stop for 3 consecutive days, and each one of the videos was longer than the previous, and each one on a specific aspect of his life. They were all pretty long videos that I'd normally never watch in a normal context, but I didn't even feel the length. So video after video, I found myself extremely and unconsciousely attached to this man, Michael Jackson, I litterally fell in love with the person he was, the artist, he was, and felt a deep pain for every single trouble he faced during his life. Idk why, but as soon as I found out about all the allegations against him, I didn't believe a single word of them, as if I've been knowing him personally for my whole life. And I still can't understand people who think he really did the stuff he was accused of. Without talking about the pressure media exercised on him, and the infinite critics on his physical evolution, and btw I find him extremely handsome in all his looks, and cute, I loved his shyness, his purety, his way of behaving, his politeness, his STUNNING SMILE, Idk I just loved the globality of this man, I realized that I'm in love with Michael Jackson. Now I feel sorry for not having known him earlier, when he was still alive, considering that I was born in 2002, and now I just feel the need and the necessity to protect him from every single person who talks bullshit about him. The only explanation that I can give to people who still think he's "a weird criminal", is they FOR SURE didn't take a second to get to know him, bcoz it's impossible to know Michael and not love him, it's impossible to know MJ and don't feel the urge to protect his child-like soul, and his pure heart. I'm glad and proud that I never ever judged him in my whole life before doing any research, and never followed any of the bullshit that was spoken about him, but I really wished and hoped from the deepest bottom of my heart that he was still alive, just to show him and give him the love he deserves to receive, and make him understand that he is really the great and beautiful person he didn't know he was inside and out. I hope your soul is peaceful, and I'm sending you tons of love and respect Michael, know that even after you're gone you gained a new fan, fan of you as a person before anything else. Wow that’s really touching. What’s really heartbreaking is not only him passing away as the greatest star of all time but also as a father. He had children to take care of and just like that his life was taken away from him. The media really did him dirty, i’ll never understand how they were able to do such things and put all the pressure of their disgusting views on him. He didn’t deserve that at all.
