MESSAGE FOR ALL TYRES COMPANIES !!! ....take it on wet, switch off electronics and drop the knee down, measure the leaning angle, note when the tire loses the grip and use different corner speed, ...that's what I call the TEST and what people wanna see!!!

Just had these fitted today on my 2016 Honda NC 750x and as soon as I left the garage I instantly felt the difference. The bike wanted to lean in the corners more than the stock Dunlop trails. I immediately felt confident in the corners and they have not even been worn in yet! As always a great review Lemmy!

Been using Michelin Pilot Roads since version 2. Undoubtedly the best tyres you can by for use in all weathers on real roads. The wet weather grip (very important in the rainy North of England) is fantastic.

You're not gonna carve the twisties too hard when it's wet anyways, it's gpod that they left a wider flat rubbed band near the edge of the bike.

Got mine in Summer of 2018, and covered Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Missouri and Arkansas twistes on a Kaw Versys. 4,200 miles later these are without a doubt the best tires I've run. They dont't show wear yet. The only pucker moment was laying way over into a curve and hit a loose gravel washout and the rear broke loose momentarily, then hooked back up and flowed out straight. Wet weather it's best ever tire.

Husky Jason Momoa knows his tires. I have used PR4's for touring, they were great for durability (2x the life of Angel GT's) but were squirmy and not confidence inspiring in corners (prone to mid corner hops during hard riding or with touring loads) - these sneakers look to have some key tread profile improvements.

I just installed new Michelin Road 5 Tires on my FJR. First impressions after 100 miles: If you are looking for a smooth riding tire like Bridgestone 023 Sport Touring tires, these Michelins are not. They have a stiff sidewall the does not flex much. You can feel every road ripple and small bumps on the road surface even if they are smooth. The trade off is Bridgestones wear faster and the tread squares off sooner than you expect (Florida roads). So it's too early to give a verdict on the Road 5 GT tires. Dialing down spring preload, rebound damping and compression damping plus lower tire pressure on the front fork a click at a time will help.

Just back from a short canyon run on a new front Road 5 on my FZ6. I have to say it's like I have a new bike. The cornering is amazing - the bike just wants to carve like I'm on skis. i will have to get used to it but it sure makes riding straight lines dull as dirt.

Fz6 rider here. Angel st tires I have are worn out currently (the rear atleast) and I'll be getting pr5's. The grip of the angel st's never let me down. I took them to the tail of the dragon 2 weeks after installing them and I was scraping peg so much at the dragon it freaked me out. I hope the pr5's have the same dry grip that I'm used to. The wet grip attribute is strictly for safety if I get caught in some rain. Angel st rear milage sucked but so does my gas mileage. All because I love to hammer on the throttle everywhere.

Tire X was hilarious. Let's jerk the throttle on and off thru the corner for some dramatic effect. I've ridden pretty much every brand of 17" rubber over the decades and nothing ever rode like that around a mild bend. Hell, 20 years ago, I'd have the rubber feathered to the edges on both "sport touring" tires in a week. I'd get about 6k out of a rear then too. Nothing's changed, but the model names. The hype never ends. Great video on "The Bike Show" about 15 year old Duc Monster vs a new Monster S. With a pipe and a map, the old Monster 1000 walked away from the brand new 1200 S. The new one has all the electronics to keep the eager newbie from killing himself though...

I got road 5 under my Yamaha R1 and i hope the harder layer will work better. The government agency who take cares of the roads here in Iceland doesn't pave all the roads, instead they use oil gravel that will be compacted by drivers over time, but while it is compacting it works like a sandpaper on the tire...

It's raining here in Oregon as I type this. Getting my 5's put on tomorrow. My CBR1000 came stock with these horrible Dunlop Sportmaxx tires. 5,800 miles on them and no confidence in them on dry or especially in the wet. They have always felt like there is no grip or feedback when cornering. Hoping I like these 5's much better. My tires "look" fine but I don't trust em.

The ton of siping on the PR4's was great in the wet but made them squirmy when you're riding hard (when new... it improved when the tread life got down below 50%). I just mounted road5's and I'm hopeful I'll get the life of the 4's but without the squirming.

Never got on with 4's, IMO, they just didn't seem to like being pushed hard as well as 3's and struggled to get up to temp in the wet and cold conditions we see in the UK. Even more of an irritation was they stopped making 3's in a 190/50, no way I was putting 4's on my 1290 so moved on to a different brand. Hopefully the 5's are much improved, the SDR needs some new boots in the spring.

Glad to see they took away some of the sipes, especially from the front tire. The PR4's were great when new, but went downhill fast. They had a unique wear pattern because of all the sipes that gave the tire a very strange feel past a few thousand k. I found this out on a few bikes that the suspension was properly tuned. I'm interested to give these a try to see how they compare. I'd like to also compare them to the Roadsmart 3's that I'm using now. Thanks for the info.

You can use 150. The way tire fits you look at the rim width and see if they fit in with the manufacturer parameters. If it fits then it won't squish the peaks and you're Gucci. Ari Henning put on a 150 rear for his CBR300R racebike I think.

I am not convinced but probably I am on the wrong track (ops, sorry). How can BOTH wet AND dry grip be improved? How can wet grip be improved by removing rain drainage and adding rubber? I am stumped out on this one! It seems to counter common wisdom.... I have the Road (1, if you will) on my 916, and they are magnificent! Very smooth cornering, excellent grip when wet. And let's be honest, when it's wet one must not ride like crazy right?

That looks more like a dry-biased tire. Hope they keep making the PR4 if first gut reaction is any factor. It seems to have a lot more dry tread on the outer portion of the tire - even with the larger sipes. Looks sketchy. I will have to try them eventually I suppose. Hope some testing can confirm wet weather performance.

Okay so which one is better for my 2010 CBR 600RR ? Michelin Road 5 or Michelin Power RS ? I want to "upgrade" my bike with new tires for the next year. Mostly I use it everyday ( home - work ), city ride on free time, some trips and also next year I want to go to the track, what interests me most is the grip of the tyre especially on cornering, i don't want to be in a corner and my rear tyre to start wiggleing and also I want to stay on 2 wheels in case the rain will begin to fall when I'm on the road (i'm not interesting in doing "agressive" leaning on cornering on wet road, only a bit leaning to turn left/right). Looking forward to your reply. Thank you !

Short answer: Road 5. Long answer: When it comes to tires, the big misconception is that just because a tire is sportier, or designed more for track use, that it will provide more grip. That's only half true-- when used as they're designed and under the conditions they're made for, sure. But for normal road riding, sport touring tires will be way better. The problem is that tires only perform when they're at the correct temperature, and race tires won't get there or stay there on the road, even with "spirited" riding. They require things like tire warmers, laps around the track, etc. So for 90% of people wearing race tires on the street, they're actually experiencing worse performance.

I have had Road Pilot 3's and 4's they were very good tyres. The Road Pilot 5 however is beyond rubbish. Major step backwards. I used to get about 12k miles with a front and about 8k miles rear. With the Pilot 5 the rear is ok but the front is only getting about 4.5k miles and wears very odd. Getting more miles out of a rear than a front, that's just bonkers. This has happened twice now. Michelin refunded the first but not the second. Definitely go elsewhere for your rubber. I don't do off road and tyre pressures are checked every time I go out.

I'm very curious to see whether this Michelin will break the 10k km (6200 miles) mark. It would be the first rear tyre on my bike (Honda NC750X) to do so. All the others (Bridgestone, Conti, Pirelli) were at the legal tread depth (unfortunately 1.6 mm in Germany) after 6k km (3700 miles) and below the wear marks after 7k-8k km (4300-5000 miles).

How is the PR5's compliance over rough and patchy pavements? Lots of that around here, and stiffer-construction performance tires don't fare so well.

I have a V-Strom 650 and run Anakee 3's for last 2 sets of tyres. Just taken in for service and they couldn't get Anakee 3's any more so fitted these. Any thoughts on this choice as possibly the newer Anakee Adventure may have been a closer alternative and I am wary of occasional light grass and dirt tracks i sometimes go across. I liked the idea the Anakee 3 could cope with almost anything

I have a 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS and am trying to decide between the Pirelli Angel GT's and these Michelin Road 5's . Doing mostly commuting with weekend fun runs. Would like a tire that last longer than the crappy OEM Dunlops. I am not an aggressive rider and while I may scrap pegs once in a while I am not a knee dragger.

While both tires will offer very similar features, Pirelli always tends to offer a softer compound for performance purposes. I don't think you will be disappointed with either of those choices, however. -Luke

Just mounted a front Road 5 in my bike (the Bridgestone it has in the rear still has a lot of life on it). Hella expensive, like 40% over the BT23s, and the bike behavior has changed a lot, I haven't decided yet if for better of for worse, just different... lets see what happens once I put the rear one and the set is complete.

Michelin road 5 or dunlop q3+ ? I ride quite a bit, almost any chance I get as long as it's not snowy. I do try to avoid rain....the odd time when the weather switches on me out of no where, I'll get caught in rain but that does not happen much really. I would like to go to the track but probably once or twice at most every summer. I also ride aggressively. Thoughts?

Perhaps this is a “the king is naked” comment… I had Pilot Road (1) twice on my bike, Pilot Road 3 (skipped the PR2), Pilot Road 4 and now Pilot Road 5. My average is about 20 thousand km’s per set of tyres. I have PR 5 for 10 thousand km’s and, honestly, I prefer the PR 4. The PR 4 are more consistent and I have lost far often the grip with the PR 5, especially on pavement marks, both wet or dry conditions. Also, when you are near the edge of the tyre, they seem to be more slippery. So, other experiences are welcome. But unless they come out with a new PR 6, probably I will return to PR 4…

Update... as I said, changed back to Pilot Road 4. Now with 5.000 km's (damn covid...), so far, I don't regret. Saved €70,00 (per set of tyres) and did not loose the grip one single time, unlike happened with Road 5... at least 3 scary times...
