These are some of the lenses that should be a good choice for your first Micro Four Thirds lens, especially for beginner photographer who are just starting out in M4/3. They include a superzoom, the Panasonic 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6, one of the normal angle prime lens, Panasonic 15mm, 20mm, or 25mm f/1.7 or Olympus 17mm or 25mm f/1.8, a medium telephoto lens, either the Panasonic 42.5mm f/1.7 or Olympus 45mm f/1.8, and the kit lens that comes with your camera.
These are my suggestions and opinions, if you have better Micro Four Thirds beginner lens suggestion, please share them in the comment below!

im user of gx9 with 1232 kit lens and 45mm olympus. and im very satisfied with the kit lens, compared with my canon/sony apsc that i used before. and 45mm olympus always stick in my camera body where if i dont need a wider view. i think i need 12-60 instead of 14-140. thanks for the video!

My favourite prime is the one I use the most, that is one that you mentioned my friend. Olympus 17mm 2.8. It’s just so sharp and versatile. I find that if the shot is a little too wide, I just crop it and it remains good and sharp. Thanks Gary, I think you’re great, regards from NZ.

Hello John, thank you for sharing your experience with the Oly 17 2.8, it is a good lens, had it for a while and enjoyed it! Warmest regards from Indonesia, I am hoping to go to NZ with my wife as soon as possible after this covid situation gets better 😊

I really love how positive and open you are in your videos! I just bought a Lumix Gx9 with the 12-60mm kit lens, I'm actually surprised at the sharpness and general good quality of it. It's a fairly decent lens for beginning I think, if you don't need too much zoom. Looking forwards to more videos!

I think 25mm f1.7 is the first one to buy, cheap, sharp, big aperture, versatile, very good lens 👍 I'm looking to sell my 14-140 and my 35-100f2.8 for the 12-100f4, and to minimalise my gear 🙂

Agreed.. 14-140 is a great all day walkabout lens.. 17mm Olympus F1.8 I found sharper and quicker focusing (on my GX9) than Panasonic 25mm f1.7..ymmv... thanks.. maybe some beginner Manual m43 lenses in your next video? Like 7artisans...which I LOVE!

This is helpful.. i am learning to appreciate my 12-60 panny leica lens. Just bought 42.5mm lens for portrait. Maybe i’m going to get 45-150mm panny or 75-300 mm oly. Just maybe. Depends whether my hobby needs it.

My first prime lens is Olympus 9mm fisheye body cap 😂. Is it a lens? or a body cap? 😂 But the first more serious lens is Olympus 25mm f1.8. Hey dont forget there is also YI lens 42.5mm f1.8 way cheaper than Olympus or Lumix lens. Especially if u buy from Ali or Ebay.

depending on the camera you have, if it's a small one i might suggest one of those pancake standard zoom, both pana and om have a high end pro version of it that have more than decent optical qualities for the size. They are pretty pricey brand new but can be found second hand for about 350$. I suggest that because as you said to become better you need to shoot more, so with a small camera body and that you can easily put it in you EDC bag so that at any moment ou see something worth shooting you have it at hand.

I agree, the pancake zoom kit lenses are actually wonderful, and the smaller setup is easier to pack inside a bag. Thank you for sharing!

I wouldn't consider it beginner, but the 12-60mm f/2.8-4 is also a great lens for all around photography/video.
