Mama I believe your washing your hair too often. The hard chemicals in the water (unless you have a really good filtration system) the mixture of shampoo or cleansing strips your hair along with the hard water. Wettting daily is fine but you should only have to wash 1 or 2 times a month- & if you’re not using that many products you can wash it even less

Because you’re mom’s hair is 4c like mine, it takes longer for natural oils from our scalp to travel down our hair shaft. she should try washing it less often and adding a little bit of conditioner or Aloe Vera inside of her water and oil concoction. Then put a little bit of glycerin on her hands and rub it into her locs to help lock the moisture in. Always remember, water is moisturizing but it will evaporate so sealing is THE key 💞

I have 4c hair as well and I’ve been told that thicker hair should be washed less often. It takes longer for our natural oils to make its way down the strand, so constant washing sort of restarts the natural moisturizing process. I’d suggest wetting/washing less often to help with the dryness

Also, if you were a 4c loose natural before locking, once a week is WAAAYYY too frequent to be washing your hair. Once a month or every 2-3 weeks max would be more ideal. That might explain the dryness you're experiencing. Try cutting back on the washing to once a month, and spritzing with ROSE water as necessary. You truly don't need oil on the hair. You might want to oil the scalp LIGHTLY after your monthly washing, but if you live in Texas this wouldn't even be necessary in the Summer.

It's definitely helped me allot. There are other mixtures for those who's hair is more mature. Hope this helps 🤗

Water adds moisture but only temporarily. Whenever you use water in your hair you should use products that can penetrate and be absorbed into the hair shaft. After the water evaporates there is no moisture left and your hair will be left feeling dryer than before. When your spray with water add oil as well so it seals into the hair as it dries ... hope that helps!

Yes Mom, wetting and washing too frequently can dry out the hair. I've got 4c locs as well and went from weekly wash and daily moisturizing to now monthly wash and moisturizing with a rose water and jojoba oil (or vitamin E) mixture twice a week and my hair is feeling softer than ever! Not a loctician but that's been my experience.

Mommas 4c hair does not need a SHAMPOO wash every week. With textured hair like ours our oils are slow to flow down the shafts of our hair. So if she is shampooing so often she is stripping any oil production she is getting before it gets a chance to go down the hair. Try shampoo once a month (under normal activity , sweating, environmental conditions) but wetting the hair with a good rinse out out conditioner and sealing that moisture would be good to do every other day.

You're both so beautiful. Paused the video to comment - dry relative to what/whose? It may very well be that you just don't have a frame of reference for what YOUR OWN hair type ought to feel like when locked. Having said that, most locked folks swear by rose water and lightly and occasionally oiling the scalp only. Oiling the hair itself heavily and frequently early on in your lock journey could lead to sticky/tacky locks at best, or slippage/unraveling at worst. Maybe what you might need to consider is developing an appreciation of YOUR OWN texture in its locked state. If you have a preset idea of how you think your locks should feel, then they will always feel dry. Locked hair feels totally different than loose natural hair and that's to be expected.
@testej99504 жыл бұрын
for dry hair: clarify well (Get. It. Clean. First.), condition as normal (usually liquid, not cream rinse), glycerin via fro/jheri curl SPRAY (YES! read the bottles. The ingredients are better than most products) recommend: SofteSheen-Carson Sta-Sof-Fro Hair & Scalp Spray and Luster's S-Curl Activator Moisturizer, then seal with an oil as normal (I would not recommend coconut oil here. Pre poo, yes.). Wash with normal shampoo once a week. Hope that helps.
@tasleyanne40464 жыл бұрын
After you spray your hair with water seal it with Castor oil, do this once a week. Water by itself is drying your hair out. Also you're washing your hair too often. Once a month should be fine. I've been loc'd for 3yrs(traditional locs).
