The finest most elegant design of any starship ever! I love the artdeco radiator grils in front of the warp engines and the cadillac fins at their end!

I have to admit that when I first saw the scenes where Kirk first lays eyes on her in the shuttle pod and when she launches after her refit i actually teared up. I'm a fan all they say back to the TOS series and IMO the refit is the most beautiful and sexy out of all 6 ships. ☺

@@Daedalus1701 Me too :-) The old NC 1701 refit with its cadillac fin tailed warp nacelles is my lady, I also love the 1970s style interiour design, the large crew meeting hall inside has some of the elegant looks of the 1960s made UNO congress building hall in New York ;-)

I must agree my friend. Have you seen "Spock's Jellyfish," it's BAD ASS too.
@ryanbarker52174 жыл бұрын
it's arguable, of course, cuz there's plenty of competition, but i wouldn't argue it. if you were to ask a random person on the street to name a sci-fi ship they're probably going to say the enterprise or the mill. falcon, and that's likely to be highly depending on which franchise has something going on at the time. both are ingrained into our subconscious.

Worthy of a place in the Smithsonian. "Nicely Done"
@templerman14 жыл бұрын
I wonder is there a museum like the Smithsonian for handmade models? I would put this in for sure. But I am old enough to remember the beautiful hand made aircraft manufacturer models that were seen in offices, throughout the military services, and airlines offices. I think most of them were similar to the wooden models you see coming out of the Philippines today.

She’s majesty incarnate, and the music is perfect too! This is from the first movie! I remember when that came out....so awe inspiring, in surround sound! We Trekkies waited so long for that first movie!
@rosshollinger80974 жыл бұрын
The music in the first part is from Wrath of Khan, James Horner. The second half is the Jerry Goldsmith score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The Horner soundtrack, in my never to be humble opinion, is better than the ST:TMP soundtrack. Horner has come it to his own quite well as a classical composer. He's often heard on the classical stations. Goldsmith is a great composer of soundtracks as well. He also did Patton, original Planet of the Apes franchise, Barnaby Jones theme, ST: The final Frontier, ST: Voyager, Insurrection, among many others.
@UNSCPILOT4 жыл бұрын
Even today that scene still holds up as a majestic spectacle
@TheTurnipKing4 жыл бұрын
95% of that movie is pretty much just taken up with panning shots of the Enterprise, so it's a pretty perfect track for this.
@jcb90004 жыл бұрын
The music in the first part is actually “Prologue and Main Title” from Star Trek 3. It also by Horner and incorporates many elements from “Enterprise Clears Moorings” from Wrath of Khan.

I remember when the first movie was released. I saw it 12 times in the theatre with different friends and family members. Now it seems like a boring movie but back then it was breathtaking. Wrath of Kahn was so much better. Thanks for sharing.

When I was a kid I had several model kits of the original Enterprise, one of a Romulan Warbird, and a Klingon D7. After TMP, however I got the refit Enterprise and it was the center of my collection. I never put lights in it, but I would love to have this today. It was my headcanon that the Enterprise had always looked like this. The pylons were straight instead of swept, but the detail and depth of this model was always there. We just "couldn't see it" because of the photographic technology in the 1960's. The refit is just so beautiful, and the swept pylons are just the final detail that makes this design perfect.

She only last for 3 movies, but what a beauty! Especially love the lights in the photon launchers, but also the timing of the light display to the scenes in the movie, and the panning shot of the Enterprise approaching us. A fabulous tribute to an icon that stands for boldly going where no [hu]man has gone before. To paraphrase Bones, "They're really not dead, as long as we remember them"
@pwc7475 Жыл бұрын
I guess bones was right Steve. I grew up in the 60's and i remember her with round nacelles. When i saw "Star Trek the motion picture" in the theater that simple thing lost something for me. I understand most fans now just know the flat nacelles, their a lot younger than me.
@CyrusB1 Жыл бұрын
It does lose something, Paul. The Enterprise refit, to me, is more realistic, but that's no a better thing. For instance, the original Enterprise could have episodes with Apollo the God, or trouble with Tribbles. The refit seems more stark, militaristic. More Patrick O'Brien. I like the dream aspect of the original ship, almost like an angel flying. That said, we had plenty of military in the original series (Balancw of Terror, Enterprise Incident, etc) To me, its 2 aspects of the same idea. I love both, both fulfill their roles for me.
@pwc7475 Жыл бұрын
Balance of terror we are more alike then different. My favorite episode. I could have called you friend.

I hope your son is doing okay now, I know it's been 2 years. There are a lot of modelling videos on KZfaq I'd suggest, chief among them being PLASMO - plastic models. Some others include ChrisAndAlexModeling, qdc748a, Doogs' Models, Luke Towan, AlexModeling, Interstellar Modeler, Trekyards, Andy's Hobby Headquarters, Doctor Faust's Painting Clinic, Genessis Models, marklinofsweden and of course, Paul Budzik, who is the Bob Ross of modeling. Not all of their videos are relevant, but they each have their own tips and techniques that will help you and your son, especially Paul Budzik's. Some essential tools are Squadron sanding sticks, Flex-i-File for rounded fuselages and the like, as well as Squadron putty, Tamiya liquid surface primer (to seal the holes in the Squadron putty after it dries), as well as a range of automotive sandpapers up to 3000 grit. I hope this helps...
