Guys, before you comment on this, please actually watch the whole video. Pippen brings up some extremely valid points in the video that I've actually never heard someone say before regarding this topic. The point that sparked my interest the most was the the small, incremental changes Microsoft has been making to the franchise as a whole. A tiny change may piss someone off for a while, but it eventually wears off to where it becomes normal. These changes like migration and chat reporting happen just far enough in between that it wouldn't cause a major backlash that would hurt their revenue stream. Microsoft would've otherwise pushed all of this from the beginning, which would obviously result catastrophe. I've actually had this thought regarding this in the back of my head for the longest time, but didn't really think too much of it. But now I realize that it should be blatantly obvious that Microsoft likely has an end goal with this. And like Pippen said, I hope I'm 100% wrong.

I’m optimistic that MS won’t pull the plug based on the fact that 99% of MC content on YT is Java. Granted, that can change, but the only way I could see Bedrock content creators explode overnight is if MS themselves are involved directly

I do not fear discontinuation of the Java edition. As long as they don't lock it away and make it impossible to play (which is barely even possible), the game will live on. Minecraft doesn't necessarily need regular updates, in fact, having one ultimate final version would be an extremely fruitful ground for modders.

Thing is Java technically does not require support from microsoft, cracked versions of the game can be started without ever connecting to mojangs authentification servers (certain minecraft servers also do not require authentication to connect), making it possible to play the game even if microsoft decides to completely shut down any official support or updates. Which might kill the game for some people, but many minecraft communities dont update to new versions anyway. Most minigames for example, are still played in 1.8.9, which you could totally continue playing on.

Communities can keep legacy content alive. Look at Titanfall 2 and its Northstar client. It is possible for communities to keep an abandoned game alive. I've been theorizing this happening for the last year or so now too. Microsoft hates java. They are likely running at a loss off java. As you pointed out no micro transactions, no map sales, no skins sales = no $ for microsoft. I theorize that it may even be within 3-5 years that they announce that they'll no longer be developing updates for java due to "technical limitations." I don't think they'll be able to cut access altogether though. Luckily the thriving java modding community has more creativity in their pinky finger than microsoft's entire company combined. You're right about it being a slow and calculated death though.

I highly doubt that Java will be deleted, but there is a very real possibility of it being abandoned. Although I dont think that will happen for a very long time, as long as some original minecraft devs are still working for the company and they still care about the game itself, there is no way java is truly going to be deleted, also, if it happened at all, ever. Microsoft will add more microtransactions to Java edition, so that both versions of the game are profitable, taking away modding and playstyle freedom for the community. 2. Microsoft will stop support for the Java edition of the game, not deleting it, but tempting players by only adding content to the profit-driven Bedrock edition Whatever they decide on, it will take a heavy hit on Minecraft, and might permanently cripple the game, but sadly, Microsoft doesn't care. Their goal is to make money, not a good game, so as long as the numbers keep rolling in, they won't be concerned with the quality of the game. Subscribed, keep up the good work

No more abandoned mods becoming lost to old Minecraft versions. No more not getting to use some of your favorite mods together because some of them aren’t updated past 1.12.2 and others only go back as far as 1.16.5. Bedrock/pocket edition was the version of my childhood. I played it constantly when I was young, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I left and now play Java specifically because of Microsoft's new changes. It's a money grab now and isn't even the same game. For goodness sake, even the vanilla gameplay has changed. On my old devices, I could get a good 24 chunks and it felt like I was playing the same game as the famous KZfaqrs everyone was watching. Now on the same devices, I can only get 9 chunks maximum (that's the limit, even when my device wasn't struggling) and I can tell the second I log in that I'm playing Bedrock. Something just feels different. Like it's just a lower-quality version of the game made to keep up Microsoft's profit margin.
@seevenmc
@seevenmc Жыл бұрын
The common agreement in the bedrock community is that the main reason for the decline in the games quality is the "new" (at this point almost 2 year old) render engine, renderdragon. It was implemented with nvidia to provide rtx support to minecraft bedrock (pc only, even though some consols could theoretically run it and there has even been an rtx beta for the ps5, but nothing ever came out of that). And oh boy are we angry about renderdragon. It decreases performance, introduces input delay, limits your game settings (you can still change them but only via files), completely destroying custom shaders the community made (yes, there are free mods, texture packs and skins for bedrock) and generally makes your game feel less smooth. Plus it even rendered some of the ui's of the partnered servers useless, but that quickly got fixed. It has come to a point of where most of the community is using 1.18 since the 32 bit version of that is still without renderdragon and thats the reason most bedrock servers wont (or at least shouldnt) remove 1.18 support. If they do, then a lot of people will quit or use proxies which allow you to join servers on different regions, an example being tedac, but thats still in early stages. TL;DR: Microsoft introduced a new render engine for rtx, which itself is getting left on the side, and that made the game worse for everyone else without an rtx graphics card in every possible imaginable way

I don’t know if minecraft on consoles is bedrock or not but you’re completely right. Admittedly I play on an Xbox one but still, it’s MINECRAFT not some 8k ultra-realistic game. It’s so poorly optimised that it takes at least 5 minutes to get from opening the game to actually loading into a world. If I try opening the settings while in the main menu the game can’t handle it and soft crashes. My render distance is only 13 chunks but it still struggles to load everything in and the game will often have small lag spikes where I have to mine a block twice or it freezes up for second.

As someone who has been in the software industry for 30 years I can say you're pretty much spot on from a business ROI point of view. I suspect however instead of killing off the java version per se they will slowly bring it to parity with bedrock (re: micro-transaction hell) first. They will get better ROI if they can convert as many of the java population over to the micro-transaction bedrock model. This will be softer than just killing out java from under everyone (and as you mention something they can draw out over time to minimize any grumblings from the community). However once you have parity between versions on the micro transaction side and they feel they have converted all the people they can they will then at that point kill it off essentially as a duplicate product, likely while adding features to bedrock and attempt to sell it as a 'unification' event between both bedrock and java communities. This is sort of classic stuff to do when you want to "migrate" a business unit's existing customer/user base you've bought under your existing core business. Online software companies today care really about two things only - at least these are two of the biggest KPIs they watch closely daily: DAU (Daily Active Users) & CR (Conversion Rate; which is essentially how many people exposed vs engaged to put it simply). Due to these driving factors they will of course put everything towards micro-transactions as they are essentially what "powers" modern software along with subscription models. Long gone are the days of buying software and you owning it. Which sucks really and is not how any of this should be. Hopefully someday laws can be made or changed which force these companies to have to provide you with all your purchased digital assets instead of just sucking money out of people and then ultimately you get nothing back in the end. We've adopted this stance (in society) that if it's digital it's OK to screw the customer. Of course this would never be allow for any physical asset you would buy from a company generally speaking. One last add; micro-transactions should be illegal as well. They ruin this industry and they are gambling and addictive negative reinforcement cloaked in shiny graphics and the alure of advantage.

Cosmetic mtx has gotten out of hand. I'd really prefer to go back to the norm of party host buys the new mission/map pack and allows joiners to play it (its like a temporary torrent) if the content is good and people can afford to, they will buy it for unfettered access or to be the benefactor of their friendgroup. The issue is you can't really review, critique, and gatekeep cosmetic mtx cause it is all too subjective and emotionally rooted, but you can much more rationally look at a mission or game mechanic and say, "yes, this really improves the experience or i admire it for xyz technical acconplishments." Without that critical element that easier method of sell is going to dominate. What is the point of the designers to try harder or publishers to ensure the game plays right if they're not really the reason for the game's financial viability.

10:14 I just want to clarify that this is from PIXEL PARADISE, and ONLY pixel paradise. This server is clowned on by the bedrock community and nobody (other than perhaps dumb kids) ever even thinks fo buying anything from it. Although there are a lot of microtransactions existing in the game, they are almost ALL optional (nobody is telling anyone to buy it). The only pay to play server is this server, and showing this as if it were all of bedrock is just a bit misinformative. Edit: Also, the point that "everything in java is free" is giving off the idea that everything in bedrock is paid for. This is not true. Almost all features from java are existent in bedrock for free as well. As mentioned, only "extra" features are paid for. You can use your own custom skins, custom worlds can be imported, mods can all be downloaded; virtually everything can be done in the same way that java can. (The only limiting factor being that java has a larger community and there being more development and variety). The only users who are "forced" to buy skins/worlds/etc are console players, who don't have the same accessibility to downloads as PC or mobile players do, but even then there are a fairly large number of free items in the marketplace which they can use if they do not want to buy from it. Heck you could even argue "but the ranksss and the p2www", but even that is present in Java edition. There is just as much freedom in bedrock as there is in java. Great video, however. Truly enjoyed it and the raising of awareness of the possibility of java being deleted. The truth is that bedrock is more monetizable and the idea that Microsoft is attempting to shift the community to it is very plausible because of this. I don't think it will happen due to the massive backlash that will happen regardless of how slow it happens (and the "racial" division between java and bedrock players)-but business is blind to what people want, so just pray.

One of the biggest issues I have with Java getting yote is all the free addon stuffs like mods and server plugins we can use. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's Minecraft. Minecraft is, at it's core, a sandbox. We can add what we want to that sandbox, and it works just fine for us. We put up with the issues that come with the Java modding scene for the sake of having the freedom to download any mod, any time, for any reason, absolutely free. There's plenty of ways for modders to make money off of that without costing the players a penny beyond buying the base game. Like others have stated, if Java is discontinued, players will keep supporting it for many, many years after the fact.

Aw man, this brought back some old memories of mine. I used to be an Xbox One Edition player, and used to make small worlds for others to play on. I would use Xbox One Edition's integrated moderator ui to make it work out, and it did for a while. When Bedrock Edition came out at first, I tried it out, since it was free for anyone who owned Xbox One Edition. Didn't really enjoy it, since command blocks were really strange to me, especially coming from a Minecraft that didn't have them, or any type of plugins or mods. So, for the next couple months, I stayed on Xbox One Edition, and kept doing what I love most. However, I started noticing small changes within the community. The Xbox One has a Group Post system, where players could find others to play a game with. Some of them would be for Faction servers, and others were for good ol' Survival. For these months, I would notice that there were less and less Group Posts being made, and I went from seeing a surreal amount of Group Posts every minute to about 30-50 group posts active every day. I did some digging myself to figure out what was going on with the community, and it wasn't that a majority of them switched to Bedrock Edition, but Xbox One Edition itself was no longer purchasable. This limited the player-base, and overall, discouraged me to continue hosting small worlds. Nothing was the same once I found that out, and eventually, I stopped hosting small worlds in Xbox One Edition altogether. I attempted to in Bedrock Edition, but nothing that was long-term. I'm now officially retired from creating and hosting servers, as I realized the limits of Bedrock Edition, and how many steps ahead society was from Minecraft as a whole. Whether it came to the thought process of players to the complex exploiting, everyone knew how far behind Bedrock Edition was from Java Edition, but it was the only option available to them, so they had to make do with what they had. In conclusion, there is no "Bad" version of Minecraft, but there'll never be a version of Minecraft that satisfied every player, or lasts eternally. I wish I could go back to the times when I could make a small game, make a Group Post, and watch as I got notifications of people being interested in my passionate projects and game ideas. However, I also have to move on as time has, which is something that's inevitable to avoid. If anyone spends the time to read this message, just know that if Java Edition goes down this path, someone out there will post a comment or a thread almost linear to this one, talking about the good times they had, the memories they made, and how they watched as their respected player-base crumbled. Thank you for your time, and I wish you a respectful day. "Never forget what they took from us."

I'm right here with you bro. I used to join worlds just like the ones you talked about hosting. I started on 360 back in 2012 and I stayed on Xbox One edition till sometime in 2019 because of how bad bedrock was compared to classic console. But by then, I had mellowed out enough that I gave in. I played a decent amount of bedrock for the next year and a bit and really enjoyed finally being able to play with friends on other platforms (especially with the pandemic) but overtime I've slowly lost interest in the game due to how frustrating bedrock is. I still keep up with the minecraft community, but I hardly ever play the game myself anymore, and that goes for most people I know too. Sometimes I worry that maybe I've just grown up too much, but then every once in a while I open up classic console, and my enjoyment for the game all comes rushing back, longing for the days of a world run by 4J studios. One that's bug free, stable, fun, and filled with love of the community. From minigames to custom superflat, in my eyes 4J are the ones who really understood minecraft. Something similar happened with Ps4 Minecraft a few years back. I still remember how I'd be able to play a mc version identical to 1.14 with 1.9 combat and find friends easily by going around other games. the PS4 had a significant update that disabled community chats so we couldn't just find random group chats that were playing the same game as you. On top of that, there have been several updates over and over. Finding communities on mc on ps4 is almost impossible now. It isn't the same. Bedrock's addition made things even worse making the community and simple system more complex than the original ps4 version was. If we want to make a community on ps4, we'd now either have to find friends of friends that play the game, play with people we know, or otherwise go on random servers and hope there on the same console as us. Not to mention some of the things we do now only last a few rounds before getting new random players. The community on ps4 is either with people you already know, getting extremely lucky, otherwise, just play alone. I'm mainly a java player, but I do return to ps4 every now and then to play with friends. I can clearly see that the community for mc on ps4 is completely ruined and that bedrock is just an expensive knockoff of the java edition. Sure, we get more access to things like maps, skins, and stuff we normally have to find out about on our own, but now we can barely find others to play with. I'm not sure how it affected other devices, but I can say for sure that forcing bedrock onto ps4 for new game updates was not worth the loss in the community. In some cases, it could be seen more as a scam, more-so than Fortnite shop.

It's not too far fetched to think that Microsoft would stop supporting Java edition, things would be very different in 10-15 years, so if the online presents of Java would be low enough, Microsoft may pull the plug for Java. But as some people have said in the comments, the modding community could and probably would just start making updates on their own. Maybe a huge team of modders would become the new pseudo-owners of Java edition, making updates & ports of bedrock updates for Java even when Microsoft isn't. While I agree with this video, there is one small (But common) misconception. On Java Edition, you were never able to be banned from singleplayer because of chat reporting. That was Bedrock Edition exclusive. However, I'm pretty sure you can still be banned from singleplayer on Bedrock edition.

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt single player has a wacky history for Bedrock. Back when consoles were getting bedrock edition (or SuperSpicyConsole edition, I just know it was a big jump and around 1.15) you had to have an internet connection (PlayStation Network) to play the game itself, including single-player. I don't know if it was even possible to swap to the old version, the game would probably just boot you out once it told you it needed a subscription.

Even if they stop updating, add microtransections, or even delete Java, we will always have the versions we have now and they can never take it away from us. Not to mention the backlash they would get from this. They would probably lose more money within days of this happening from loosing share price than they made with Minecraft thus far.
@CamAlert2
@CamAlert2 Жыл бұрын
@Angel irisen 2 so that's why they're doing it slowly over time. eventually java edition will get a microtransaction store, and whatever nefarious things they choose to adopt to bedrock they can then carry over to java and so on. then once java edition is firmly in line with bedrock they will quietly pull its plug. it's only a matter of time. for some reference, look up microsofts 'embrace, extend, extinguish' business philosophy.

On many linux versions, especially debian, when you first install the launcher it'll automatically open to Bedrock Edition even though it's not even playable on linux. Java Edition is the "side game" on linux launchers

As someone who's always been familiar with Java and not Bedrock, playing Bedrock for the first time genuinely felt like I had gone to a website emulator version of Minecraft Java. Controls felt janky, there was a lot of glitches and bugs. But that's not from my computer being laggy because Minecraft Java runs very smoothly on almost full render distance and simulation distance. Minecraft Bedrock does not feel right and it would be an awful decision to go ahead with removing Java. Of course, they might recover from it but Minecraft will not really be the same. Unoptimized, janky, buggy, a literal inferior version of the Minecraft that we played back in the day.

Not hot take: Only reason why minecraft still is so desirable for the players who played for a long time is because of the mods for java. Because of Forge, Fabric and Optifine.

This is actually true, yes bedrock is much more optimized since it's using c programming language. But my experience as a kid, my phone's hardware is not that great. But I started on pocket edition (bedrock) when it was still called that. Coming to java, it is resource heavy yes. But optifine became my friend and now fabric. Which makes my gave run far better than bedrock. (Heck I even checked bedrock since they gave it for free, and I still didn't get 120 fps like I do with just optifine (200+ on fabric mods)

the problem with your argument of it being a slow strategy to avoid backlash is that everything you mentioned receives loads of backlash which would mean the strategy is failing and over the past few years I've only seen disdain for these decisions rise and as shown by the bedrock chat reporting system once applying to single-player and now only applies to multiplayer as hate towards microsoft grows they will be forced to budge. And with the Xbox one edition it was canceled immediately after the better together update I used to play on that version and updates almost immediately stopped it only got 1.13 a while later far later than other versions I do definitely think its possible microsoft may be trying to do this but currently I do not see it going in that direction at all.

How it works is they get loads of backlash, then it dies down a lot (as it did and has begun to), and then they do something to enrage the community again. A lot of people keep a grudge and keep being angry at microsoft, but most people just forget about it and let it go until something new comes around, and then the cycle repeats again.
