We actually revisited this experiment ourselves a year later so we could "see it" - and discovered the same thing you did here: It's best to use a knob-style microwave, and the door really does become a literal projectile! Why is this age restricted?

Gents! I realize I'm quite late to this party but loved the video. Couple of fun modifications: 1. Put the microwave on it's back with the door up...I realize this might be safer for the salt flats and not the backyard. Curious how high the door would go! 2. Opposite: put the door straight down toward the ground. I wonder if the whole thing would just explode, or if it would launch the microwave into the air. 3. Anchor the microwave, so that maximum force goes into the door...how far would THAT go?! I know everyone has ideas. It's just fun for me to think about!
