Seriously ruined my mental health so bad I went carnivore. So glad I found the truth. Never felt better as a starchivore before! I still eat variety but a boat load of starches. Rice (white as I need to gain weight and I can down it easily and get my calories up) and brown too, barley, beans, potatoes, gluten free bread! Then a few nuts for nutrients (Brazil and cashew), vegan Mayo for omega 3 until I can afford algal supplement next week, zinc/mag/B6 supplement for pyroluria, B12 supplement (although only ever other day as my levels were way too high), lemon squeezed on many things for vit c, and I'm pretty much covered for an entire day, oh and one tiny seaweed chip a day for iodine.

Wether WTH is an exaggeration or not, watching the documentary is one of the reasons that made me go full vegan. What I care about is my body and results, and I feel better than ever, energized and haven't had gastritis in a while. AND I stopped getting my high blood pressure pills. So lies or not, I do see a positive change in my life and that's all that matters to me. I think people should stop worrying about what others do and focus on their own lives.

Well, we do have peer-review medical studies that say that vegan microbiota is healthier compared to people who eat meat, dairy and eggs. Lower incidence of cancers on vegan diet... reduced chances of dying from all causes on vegan diet... etc. I wouldn't say it's biased when you have the scientific data supporting you (which this video does quote as well). Still, if one or two things were exaggerated, then those should be acknowledged by the film-makers and stick to the facts (there's lots supporting vegan diet as is, so there's no need to exaggerate). Plus, you can't escape the reality of animal exploitation, torture, rape and murder... or the ecological costs that follow it. P.S. on a personal note, when I went vegan two years ago, I stopped suffering from colds and flu's. I still had them as a vegetarian (for 6 months just prior to going vegan) and of course while eating an omni diet. So, I can at least say from my own personal experience that a vegan diet greatly improved my health. I still go to the gym multiple times a week and I do 100 pushups, 100 crunches and 100 squats daily. Oh and I get my B12 from Nori. Peer-review confirms that seaweed Nori is an excellent source of biologically active B12 and Iodine. Haven't had an issue with nutritional deficiencies at all... So, if you do your research, and construct a proper (diverse) vegan diet... you WILL get everything you need from it.

People don't go crazy over others becoming vegetarians or vegans. Do your own thing. Don't start arguing with bad science to push your opinions on others. Are there documentaries whose sole purpose is to criticize veganism? Are there people shouting in the streets to stop veganism? Nope. But vegetarians and vegans love to push their lifestyle into others, even forcefully at times.

As a vegan I hate this documentary There isome RIDICULOUS blatant misinformation in "what the health" Like one medical doctor(presumably?) claiming that it's impossible for carbs to make you fat. That is a disgusting and outright dangerous lie. First he makes no distinction between starches and things like high fructose corn syrup. Secondly I'd love to see that moron doctor back up his claim and eat adiet consisting of tons of fruit juice white bread, white rice, pasta. consuming 3-4000 kcal a day, the man will get fat, period. His medical doctorate should be stripped for saying stupid things like that

@@Goriaas Its true because only 3÷ percent of your fat is actually from carbs. Do the research.
@uncommonsense5276
@uncommonsense5276 5 жыл бұрын
Goriaas De Novo Lipogenesis only occurs when you have completely saturated all your carb stores in the liver and your muscle cells and even then it is not at all efficient. You lose two of the 4 calories per gram you get from carbohydrates just to complete the process. There is almost no food you can get that is 100% carbohydrates so your body, the efficient machine it is would store the fat which it can do easiest without changing the compound or it will convert the protein to sugar, which is second on the efficiency scale but also is an acidic process that damages the kidneys. So the doctor was using science to make that statement. What are you using?

Big Meat and Dairy should never have been allowed to attain the stronghold it has on the global food supply chain. You don't need it in your diet AT ALL, in fact the opposite is true. just because most vegans are less likely to smoke and drink alcohol and eat less processed food doesn't mean that vegan diets are Heather at all the fact that pesco-vegetarians had the lowest hazard ratio for all-cause mortality in the Adventist Health Study 2 despite pollution? I can see the ecological and other ethical problems with eating seafood, but doesn't epidemiology contradict the claim that a vegan diet is healthier than a pescovegetarian diet? I don't think I know better, it's just that I see some contradiction here. Thanks for your reply. This study on vegans' use of saying vegan being Heather than meat-eater has clearly shown the opposite true with the fish-eater this doesn't mean vegan diets are unhealthy but not optimal as whole food plants based with some fish since this diet provides all the nutrients from plants and B12 DHA and more biologically available vitamins A and D, therefore, non-vegan diets can be slightly Heather than WFPBD Not all vegans eat this diet vegans do eat refined carbs also added vegetable oils are and mock meats are not correct to say that vegans are automatically Heather because their diet is vegan

I don't like to talk about myself but I feel compelled to do so on this issue. I watched "What the Health" about 6 or 7 weeks ago and began my meat free and plant based diet the following day. I have lost more than 10lbs so far without any additional exercise. People around me have noticed my increase in energy levels, a brightness to my eyes and skin improvement. The chronic aches in my joints that were particularly bad in the morning have completely disappeared (I did not notice this until my wife pointed it out to me) and my stomach issues have totally gone away. I have encouraged other family members to at least cut out dairy and cut back on meat consumption and even they have been impressed with their own results. I am not a complete bore on this issue when out and about but on this occasion I just wanted to say, "Ignore these biased naysayers and just do it. It works!"

This documentary literally may have saved my life. My mom died from breast cancer when I was 12. Dairy was a huge portion of her diet. She would almost always eat a huge bowl of cereal every morning, and i remember I used to be astonished how she ate it all. As for me, I used to pretty much only drink milk. I would go through a half gallon a day give or take, and meat and animal products were the main portion of my diet. I worked out every other day in high school striving to be a body builder and my dad would by me steak to cook and eat for myself every night for dinner. My diet was the exact diet that appear to cause a hormonal cancer like what my mom got and my grandpa ( her father)got. He had prostate cancer. I'm 21 now and watched this documentary a little over a month ago and have been vegan ever sense. This documentary could have possibly saved my life.

Honestly, unpopular opinion time, but I think What the Health went a bit too far with some of their claims. Maybe I feel this way cause I'm a viewer who is relatively more educated on nutrition, but they left so much out. There was way too much simplification and kind of black and white claims. I agree with the overall conclusion that plant based is healthier, however they didn't need to make such outrageous claims to get there. Kinda felt like they were dumbing it down for the viewer and thereby missing a lot of stuff, and also like, of course the first person you get on the phone when you call the number on a packet doesn't have super in depth answers. I don't know, it's not the documentary I'd recommend to people personally... it's just really obviously set up with a goal to promote veganism, therefore exuding dishonesty from the get go. It's just how I felt watching it at some points in the documentary and if I, who is already convinced that plant based is best for me, feels that way I can imagine any non vegan I'd recommend it to could also very well feel this way. There are enough great arguments for veganism, no need to exaggerate.

Been 100% vegan for one month now and I can honestly say that I've never felt better in my whole life. I'm not saying that as some sort of propaganda, I'm being totally honest. The positive effects of switching to a plant based diet show up almost immediately.

Hey Mic, what scientific evidence would you show people who use the "moderation" argument to justify their meat consumption? Even after telling them the mechanisms on why animal products cause heart disease and cancer they still go on to say that animal products are save as long as you don't over eat it... Are there any studies that show how much meat is enough to increase your risk of all cause mortality significantly?

processed foods like pasta, bread, oreos, soda and stuff aren't as good for you, but they don't have the same carcinogens as meat and dairy, the main problem you could have is excessive oils matched with excessive processed carbs, thats kind of asking for poor health, but still not to the same extent as eating a typical american diet. i was watching an excessive eater that ate only french fries and he was pre-diabetic, so you can see where eating a vegan diet that limited is problematic, you are still getting the clogged up insides from the oils that can't process the carbs.

You can do a lot of whole plant foods in the form of a smoothie (not juice). The smoothie is also a good way to add ground flax or chia for omega-3 all while keeping precious fiber and phyto-compounds. Also you can do a lot of dishes for dinner or lunch that consist of lentils/beans with cooked down greens, tomato, and onion. This basically resembles a stew. Just start experimenting - its fun! You will find something you like and eventually your body will probably crave plant foods because the nutrient load is so much greater.

I eat high carb low fat, I occasionally have a bit of junk, but I don't miss it, starchy carbs like potatoes, rice and oats are super fuel and very filling. & try 'nice-cream' if you don't like the texture of fruits, freeze your bananas over night buy some frozen strawberries and blueberries, throw them in the food processor with a little plant milk and voila instant delicious yet super healthy low fat ice cream. :P

Non-whole foods vegan diet is not so healthy, but its always a better choice to make over eating any animal products. At least if any harm comes to your health, it will be only you who got harmed, and not any other creature along with it. I would suggest though to focus more on the whole foods and fruits that u can tolerate for start, (along with the other processed vegan stuff that u eat) and then maybe your taste buds change over time, and u will be able to include a bigger variety of fruits and vegetables in your palette.

The citations alone put VOX to shame on this. If nothing else it shows us which media are sold out to industry. BTW, any idea what the WFPB diet was from that BROAD study? I'm just eating whatever but not seeing results yet after a few months. Potatoes, rice, legumes, beans, oats, fruits, salads, mushrooms, bell peppers, apples, carrots, tofu, etc etc. I feel great and am sleeping a lot better but I don't know if there is a magic ratio I"m missing ;) It's naturally working out to 80/10/10 carbs fat protein but maybe my body is having a hard time with something. Ah well, i'll keep trying

waltersumofan some people get more pronounced results than others. My dad said he has loads of energy now and feels much younger. For me it was much more subtle initially, but I felt like I could breath a lot freer, deeper and felt less congested overall. Slightly longer term (and without even exercising regularly at all) my endurance has improved massively! I wasn't great at running any appreciable distance before but it feels so so easy now.

waltersumofan do you use any oil to cook your food? And if so, do you count that too? Some people tend to overlook that, but it makes a massive difference. I am skinny af (67kg at 1.83m), but my wfpbd actually made me gain 1-2kg without any effort. The biggest difference I experienced so far is that I recover much quicker, from everything. Flew, excercise, fatigue, etc...

No oil for me. The study showing the vein repairing was a good enough incentive. Other studies too just reinforce the notion that all processed food especially oil isn't the way to go. I use nuts and fruit now instead and I feel that's worked out well. I noticed a positive change in my legs after a month, quick recovery from long walks the next day. I figure weight loss is in a list of things that will occur, it's just not the body's priority at the moment while it cleans up other things like arteries (my theory). I don't know if there are better food choices that can help that along

I really wish Kip (and/or you) would make some kind of tutorial on how to go into these sources, pick out the companies that funded them and find these sponsors/partners. I would really love it if more vegans were able to do it themselves since then we could apply it to other countries/companies/industry science papers as well. We could also apply it to studies proving vegan diets to be better as well to show how little they are part of the "vegan propaganda conspiracy"

In every peer-reviewed published paper, there ought to be a little section tucked away somewhere declaring the authors' conflicts of interest. If you have the full PDF of a study you can probably ctrl+f "conflicts of interest". In many cases with nutritional studies that claim "eating eggs is totally fine for you!" or "milk does a body good!" you'll see in the "conflicts of interest" section that the research was funded in part by, say, the National Egg Board, or the National Dairy Council. If the authors declare a CoI that doesn't say "egg" "dairy" "beef" etc, but they DO declare a different CoI, go check out the organization that funded them and assess for yourself whether that organization is trustworthy. If the authors don't declare a CoI, but the results of the study seem suspect, look up the authors' names. Find out where they conduct research. I came across a study recently, can't remember where, but the results were pro-animal ag, and they didn't declare any conflicts of interest. Turns out both researchers worked in the "animal science" department at basically a school for animal agriculture. If your paycheck depends on your promotion of animal products, it's highly unlikely that you're going to find in your research that animal agriculture is bad for humans or the planet. Learning how to read a study's methodology properly takes a proper course. If you're quite interested in reading research, try looking for a course at your local community college that teaches scientific literacy and see if you can get into it without prereqs. Or look for a course on coursera or a similar website. Learning how to understand good methodology really helps in figuring out how to read a study. Good research design is essential for getting clear, unbiased results, and especially in the social sciences, it's easy to design a study in such a way that you get the results that you want. For example, let's design a study on eggs and cholesterol. I have the resources to conduct an experimental study, instead of an observational study -- that means that instead of just asking people what they eat and measuring their cholesterol, I can take two or more groups of people and assign them to eat different numbers of eggs. This will help measure the effects of egg consumption directly, and keep other factors from influencing the results. Now, if I'm interested in the truth about egg consumption, I'll take, say, two groups of people. Group A will eat no eggs at all for, say, 8 weeks. Group B will eat 5 eggs a week. I'll measure both group's cholesterol at the start of the study and throughout. I'll ask how much exercise they get and what other foods they're eating at the time. Then I'll compile the data. With what we know about egg consumption, I ought to see low cholesterol in Group A and a dramatic jump in cholesterol in Group B. But let's say I'm getting paid by the National Egg Board. If I put out a study saying that eating eggs increases your cholesterol, I'm not getting money from them ever again, so I'm interested in designing the study such that I get a favorable result for eggs. So I divide my people into two groups. I assign Group A to eat 3 eggs every day. Then I assign Group B to eat 4 eggs every day, and I measure their cholesterol. There won't be much of a difference in their cholesterol levels, and I can publish a paper saying that eggs are just fine and don't raise cholesterol -- and the egg consumption really didn't raise the cholesterol, so it's technically true. But I designed the study so that it would be very, very hard to find a difference in cholesterol between the groups. That's why it's important when reading studies to at least look over the methodology of the study with an eye for what kind of research design will give you the best, unbiased results. (Source: went to school for sociological research)

Animal agriculture is a leading direct contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and dead zones AND meat eating is the leading cause of deforestation (goodbye carbon sequestration) and loss of biodiversity. So cutting back dramatically on meat eating has multiple systemic benefits for people and the planet.
@karlwheatley1244

I'm sorry, I don't understand what point you trying to make. Most cropland grows crops to feed to animals, and it's dramatically more efficient to just feed corn and soybeans to people directly. Thus, if we cut meat consumption markedly, lots of former grazing land or land for growing livestock feed could return to being forest. But yes, we should also switch to more eco-friendly farming practices such as organic/veganic farming/agroecology.

I know what you're trying to say, but to be fair, I try to feed my dog the best diet possible to keep him healthy, based on the research I've done, and I wouldn't in a million years feed that diet to a human. Dogs and humans have very different physiology and require a different balance of nutrients. I wouldn't put a bunch of boiled potatoes in my dog's dish, but I would absolutely feed that to a child.
