Thank you for joining me to watch a mid-summer garden tour for 2021.
Our garden looks kind of rough right now since we're nearing the very end of our summer tomatoes, in between crops on a few things, and just battling the heat and humidity of Louisiana summers.
This year has posed quite a challenge with the record rains we've gotten this summer. It's an unusual problem to have and we weren't proactive enough to avoid some problems with a few crops. Some plants have suffered and some are holding out strong.
This is our first year to be planting a fall/winter garden so although we have another round of summer beans and tomatoes coming, I'm excited to start planting seeds and planning for our winter crops.

I love seeing "real life" in the garden. The grasshoppers up here in Montana have eaten ALL of my herbs. 😩 Thanks for sharing!

Aw man. It's always a battle against the weather and bugs. But yet we keep doing it 😂 that just means it's really worth it!

Just discovered your channel when I was checking out your review of the Berkey water purifier. With the craziness ensuing in this country, I am believing I need to start some homesteading but I am pathetic with plants, I kill every thing. It's frustrating because I tend to them and they still perish. I live in the desert, AZ. I guess I will starve if there's a food shortage. 🤣. I will keep watching. Your children are adorable! Your garden/farm looks great to me. Luv beagles!

Thank you so much for watching and sticking around! Gardening can definitely be a challenge and it's a learning endeavor for sure. One thing I would highly recommend if that's the case is to get your soil tested. I learned this year in my herb bed how hard it is to grow plants in soil that isn't right for them. If you have a university nearby or an agriculture extension office, they may offer a soil testing service. If not, you can buy a little home soil testing kit off of amazon and get a pretty good idea of what your soil may need. Then you can amend it and hopefully get something growing! You could also consider raised beds/container gardening and fill them with a garden soil purchased from a nursery. More of an investment but probably a quicker way to get better results. I do think that the more self-sufficient we can learn to be, the better off we'll be all the way around. And there are few things like cooking up fresh food that you planted and grew yourself! Thank you again for being here!
