The difference between farmers and other Midwesterners is sometimes glaring.. . "Where I come from" ( and partly when.. but I'm also only 44), mowing the lawn is women and children's work. Heck, so is some fieldwork such as raking hay. It caused quite a stir among us kids the 1st time I remember seeing my Dad on our riding mower ( and that was like a one-off, prob. testing it after a fix).

It actually makes biological sense for the wife to control how the house is arranged and decorated. It's called "nesting" and it's an actual instinctual need, similar to how a guy needs to feel useful.

Two little (incredibly adorable) girls I used to nanny called their bodybuilder dad “big guy”. It was undeniably cute.
