On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Suppressing the SA-11 was a piece of cake but the S-400 was a greater challenge as expected. HARMs use radiation emissions to find sights, once radar gets turned off it can try and get a coordinate and use inertial nav to guide itself to target but its not always effective, biggest thing that makes them effective is that ground radar systems are slow and hard to evade whereas if you fire a HARM at an aircraft it can just go cold and fly away, not to mention that the HARM probably cant take the kind of Gs necessary to axe a fighter

HIMARS =/= HARMS, any strike from a HARM is almost certainly going to come with warning as the SAM sight its defending is gonna start locking up the jet before/after launch. Himars travels at roughly twice the speed and can come from shorter ranges than HARMS, reducing the ability to respond to it, also saturation does play a role in it.

Ayo, Growling Sidewinder, you probably won't see this, but I would love to see a dogfight using the Chinese j20 against a number of aircraft. Sick video though, love you youtube channel. I'm thinking to get into DCS, but I still need to get a beast of a pc.

Thanks great stream as always!!! This tactic while successful, is very expensive. The HARM's are also in short supply in Ukraine.

Similarly, the SAM interceptors that must defend against HARMs are also expensive. HARMs are roughly ~$284,000. And if you are firing at an SA-10/21 (S-300/400). SA-10/21 uses missiles around $1,000,000 a pop.

Please, make some cruise missiles interception mission. Very interested about Fulcrum's and Flanker's capabilities in that kind of tasks. P.S. Of course, Ukrainian versions of these jets against Russian missiles, like Kh-22, -555, -101, -59 and Calibres
@janintelkor
@janintelkor Жыл бұрын
I've once tried that against anti ship missiles to save it, but it was very hard, radar didn't pick them from long distance. But, for larger cruise missiles they should be visible on radar from like 10km
@karjalasta
@karjalasta Жыл бұрын
Personally I think it would be far more interesting to see all Russian hardware intercepting US' cruise missiles. That and the opposite. It would be interesting to see that because most stuff in DCS is just all Russian (aside of other European jets) or American. Also, the only modelled variant in DCS is the MiG-29A, the original Soviet 9.12 airframe.

So do the missiles launched by the S400 system require constant ground based radar lock on you or do they have their own radar systems like a Fox3?

Can you blind fire the harms in the F16 to just track what ever radars they see infront? I always use the pod?!
@gketchup777
@gketchup777 Жыл бұрын
What is not shown here is how alert the sam radar operators are. Based on how the Moskva got surprised I can imagine that a real sam site wouldn't be able to fire in time to intercept that many small targets and even if they fire, because of the logistic issues, every sam fired on a harm is one less sam fired on an aircraft and they can dry up their immediate missile reserves pretty quickly, so win-win.

Why can't the Soviet era "Fantasmagoria" pod be retofitted to the MiG-29? It seems (Though I could be mistaken) that the Soviet style HUD does not differ between aircraft types, and at least imposing that information on the HUD, even if the HARM's themselves can't guide off of it, would still be of tremendous value in telling the MiG's where and when to volley the missiles.

Might be a stupid question, but do you just launch the HARMs when you're being locked? The HARMS know to just home in on that signal? I didn't see that you locked anything yourself.
@GrowlingSidewinder
@GrowlingSidewinder Жыл бұрын
No u can launch them without the lock I wasn’t waiting for the lock lol they were just locking me before I could ID them and good into a good position too shoot. The harm has enough range to be fired a lot further back assuming you know where the site is (makes it easier to shoot down too)
